So they should stop banning the hackers as they help improve the anti cheat measures?:troll:

No man, what he's saying is that it's not possible to fix stuff unless you stress-test said stuff for possible weak points.

It's obvious he has no idea what he is talking about, mixing up hacking, cheating and exploiting.

But I also think that, yes, banning hackers in a motherfucking alpha is fucking retarded and reeks of butthurt. The only reason a number of hacking vulnerabilities were fixed or are monitored is because of those people. Without them, fewer people would be doing it in subtler ways, still gaining an unfair advantage. Players are doing the work of Q&A stuff and being punished for it. Retarded.

Have you actually contacted the devs with information how the duping was done so they can fix it?

I thought it was obvious I was joking.
Fags.

Also, they get rightfully banned. They aren't doing the work of Q&A. They're not testing it for the purposes of making the game better, they're doing it to gain advantage / ruin other people's fun.

It's good to know that PA are playing this game. The possibility that I might have killed either of those morons will make every kill that much sweeter.

Despite all of the hackesr, dupers, cheaters and exploiters I still get a kick out of DayZ.

On the other hand, I'm finding the default Operation Arrowhead campaign to be extremely frustrating. The AI is amazingly retarded at times to the point that it breaks missions and makes me want to kill the developers. Maybe not the developers but the fuckheads that created those missions. I suppose that should be in another thread.

Aren't the hackers exploiting ARMA vulnerabilities, which are nothing to do with DayZ and the DayZ guy can't do anything about? As I recall those accounts were banned by BIS from all ARMA servers.

Yes, yes, no. He added some safeguards to the DayZ code to prevent hacks to my knowledge. No, they were banned by BattlEye. BIS people + Rocket say that they trust in BattlEye and tell people to take it to the BattlEye about bans, which unfortunately isn't fail-safe.

The most fun ive had so far in DayZ is after death when I have to regear and get back to base. On the server I started with I was spoiled with a group with vehicles who would make runs down to starter towns to pickup recently deceased, playing on a server where we have one vehicle makes each respawn much more interesting. My favorite part so far is creeping around towns after sunset with a hatchet checking for gear/food whilst hitting the zombies that get in my way. If my potato rig was a bit better I might be able to handle some PvP where im not the one getting shot to pieces.

Got both the rangefinder and NVG from a guy. Got shot at by his friends, at least three of them as I heard three different sounds. Ran like hell, escaped out of there. When I decided it was safe and I wasn't being pursued any longer, I switched servers to dupe and store stuff and voila: stuff was gone. Version conflict, I presume.

Was there a global tent wipe? All of my tents. Are gone. All of it. Everything. Fuck this shit again.

I still love it. Cannot wait for a standalone version. Been mass server killed 2 times now, battleeye is a piece of shit software.

All that duping gone to waste huh?
:incline:

Don't you worry, I'm up to speed again. Thanks to cheat gun, killing people is easier than ever and I quickly got back on track on hoarding equipment.

edit: oh, they all came back along with my bike and bicycle. Yay. Loss of the latter was what distressed me the most.

Codex 2012 Torment: Tides of Numenera Codex USB, 2014
So, I was looking for something new to play and saw this DayZ stuff. I started reading this thread but then saw it’s 36 pages so fuck that. I’ll do the lazy thing and ask here:

*I read of duping/cheating/exploiting etc. Is the game enjoyable anyway? Should I wait until this gets fixed?

*Is this stuff actually fun? From what I can gather from your posts and those comics, it seems like the main thing is the atmosphere rather than the gameplay.

*I’m going to try the easy servers stuff first to see how it works. Is the Codex group still active? I’d like to join it once I’m half decent, since I have zero idea of how arma2 works.

*Is there any reason why I should try something different? I come from a background of UO and Darkfall and stuff and full loot doesn’t really bother me, but the only fps I used to play were unreal tournament and return to castle wolfenstein, ages ago. Is it very “twitch” based? Do you need to actually be good at fps or is more like “sneak a lot and get the jump on people”?

And then anything you might feel like I need to know. I will slowly read the whole thread or at least try to.

It plays nothing like typical FPSs. At times, it feels more like you're controlling a bipedal vehicle. But you grow into it. You cannot play this with typical FPS mentality. Yes, you basically need to get the jump on people, whether via an ambush or by tactical maneuvers. There is no run and gun in the sense we've been used to. Twitch skills help but aren't vital. Awareness, observation and patience are.

Don't bother with easy servers, they are the most dangerous due to players.

Don't mind the exploits and hacks, they are non-issues that only butthurt carebears BAW about. The only serious issue are the hackers who mass-insta-kill all people on a server and that's long been covered I think.

But taking into consideration that i know nothing of the game, what do you suggest i do to get used to the controls and stuff? Play offline? As far as I can see there’s quite a lot of work to do to control vehicles and stuff and many options when walking etc. If I simply jump right into it will I be ok? I don’t care about dying but I don’t want to fumble about just because I don’t know ho to perform action X.

Before DayZ, I played some of the tutorial levels, the first few missions of the Arma2 campaign and screwed around with vehicles and weapons in Armory mode while going through controls configuration. That was enough for me.

There is a SP/co-op mod for Arma2 that shares the same basic groundwork with DayZ. I think it's called Zombie Apocalypse or something like that. Give that a try. There is also a SP adaptation of DayZ that worked pretty good for getting to know the game in DayZ's context but Rocket has had it removed. If you somehow happen to find it, it still works with DayZ v1.7.2.3.
