Anyone played this game? Thoughts? It looks interesting to me because I like old school dungeon crawl games and don't care much about graphics.

They have some other games for sale also, im surprised I had not heard of these before.

I liked Mordor II better but Demise is still on my hd. You have to realize that it consists very much of grinding, but if you like exploring, developing characters and finding loot it is a good game.
If you have any specific questions I'll do my best to answer them.

Mordor was the best! Its soundtrack was bloody fantastique.

Alos, demise was extremely hardware intensive when it first came out with excellent graphics; VERY surprising considering it came form an indy and was only available to order.

It's a pretty repetitive dungeon crawl with Multi-player capabilities. I've put quite a bit of hours into it, but I never got past dungeon level 20ish, and my character never went past around level 120 in a single guild. If you like a dungeon crawl, it's prob worth a look, but don't expect the second coming or anything. Last I heard they were releasing a content update that would fix and add many new things, it should be out soon if it hasn't already released. Not bad.

One of my favourite games. Very long and extremly addictive. Official add-on is close to release - after 6 years of development :)

I still remember the sound effects made by mouth...

Has there been a patch optimizing the Demise engine? Because even on computers made 6 years after the game's release some lightning effects and other stuff can make the game slow to a crawl.

I should try to replay those, they are nice for dungeon crawls. Spent a lot of time on Mordor. Then again I found it would get too easy after a while and the dungeon was always the same. And then I discovered NetHack... Different kind of game but more satisfying for me.

Demise is damn fun, but my savegames always get corrupted after a while. I think I play it once a year for a week or sth. Anyway, try the demo - I don't remember how big it is, but it could be enough for quite a few hours.

Interesting, I might give it a try. I am going to try out Devil Whiskey first though, so hopefully by then the add on patch for Demise will be out.

Does Demise have any quests or NPC's to talk to? Or is it just clear out rooms and rooms of monsters and get loot?

I haven't heard much of this indy studio, don't know if I will like Devil Whiskey since I have barely played the demo so far but it sounds like the dev team has abandoned the sequel. I don't really care about graphics and stuff so I am intrigued with this dev studio.

Please do come back and let us know how you liked devil whiskey (stupid emo name! :( )

I played the demo years ago,and found it unstable crap (good music though)

I also recommend the following:

www.sryth.com

Just put aorund 2 hours into it and you will enjoy it.

What is Mordor like? I don't know if I could handle the basic windows screen from what I have seen of it. If its a deep and fun world to explore though I might like it.

Nope. Mordor is NOT deep. neither is demise. (assuming by deep you don't mean deep dungeons)

It was fun though, at least for me. Its pretty hardcore. If you enjoyed DungeonHack you would enjoy mordor. If not, stay the heck away.

Also, I don't think it works with XP and or dosbox; it was desinged for win 3.1!

Ok, think im going to pass on Mordor then.

Will report back with thoughts on Devil Whiskey.

Mordor works on XP but the UI was kinda designed with Win 3.1 in mind. It is simple but very addictive, quests are randomly generated but always of the "Kill monster type X on level Y" kind. There is also a nice guild system and you can create many different kind of characters for your party.

You can always try the demo, it gives a good idea of the game but it's "only" a dungeon crawling game, there is no real story and no real end even after you explored all the levels (as far as I remember those are fixed but monsters are randomly generated according to the level and where you are).

Nothing surprising about decent gfx. Game-to-become-Demise was originally signed by Interplay to be released as "Infinite Worlds". Something broke in the end though. A beta demo was floating around, it had more "professional" look (interface-wise) than Demise has.

Behind you.
The graphics weren't excellent when the game came out. They were a few years behind the time when it was released. It's still a pretty fun little dungeon crawler with gobs of character development and some interesting ideas. I enjoyed it quite a bit when I had it.

Yup but keep it right the fuck away from Vista. It'll load but you get stuck when you enter the dungeon and you can't move. I'm guessing it's because Microsoft left out a dll file deliberately somewhere.

Never tried any of the sequels myself. Was always happy with Mordor.

Mordor II was corrupted the second time I tried to run it on XP. Demise works fine.
Quests are not only kill monsters but also bring back monsters/items ^^
Some creatures in the deeps will talk to you. Your language skill determines how much you understand. They only give fluff lore, though, and no quests or dialogue options.

Which would you recommend over, Demise or Wizards & Warriors? They look similiar.

Having played both, I think Wizard and Warriors is the better game. It just offers far mroe depth then demise, but then again they are both apples and oranges as well. One is a pure dungeon crawl, while the other tries to be a little bit of everything.

W&W without hesitation. Its similar to demise but you have better grafix, a full party (6 people) and exploration and open world instead of just a uber donjon.
