So is everyone enjoying it as much as I am? It sets a new bar for reactive dialogue in an RPG, does it not?

I won't be writing a review since it's not really needed, there will be a million of them all showering the game with praise already. But I hope you guys are enjoying it! :)

Could be a RPG if it's not a hidden gem ?

PorkyThePaladin , Anachronox is also the funniest game I've ever played and I don't think Disco tops it in that regard. Nothing beats Grumpos in any game I've seen as a written character. :)

That said, Disco is definitely funny and charming, too. It's got really good writing. I see why some of their novels are best sellers there.

Anachronox was pretty funny, no doubt, but I dunno, Disco is making me laugh a lot too.

It has a lot of understated but ridiculously funny humor, for example, after you call in on the cop radio about your missing badge, and the whole department laughs their ass off at you in the background, there are some additional gold nuggets in there that are less obvious:

- They compare you to Dick Millen, some fictional detective, but then when they realize they might get in trouble because of your drinking, one guy says "Millen dicked us", which is funny wordplay.
- You can choose to lie to them abour your gun, if your skills support it. I did, and they all believed me, and started making fun of me again for the badge. But at the end, you have an additional dialogue option, "Oh, by the way, I did also lose my gun", which at that point is just so fucking funny.

I noticed that one of the steam achievement is "Il Coppo del'Arte" while other achievemens are in english language.
What the hell means?
It's a sort of bad spelled Italian ("del'Arte" instead of dell'Arte"), with an invented english derived neologism ("Coppo" probably from "cop"). It does mean nothing.

Maybe Obsidian will hire some writers from ZA-UM.

A man can dream.
It would be great to see them working under the leadership of prestigious Feargus Urquhart and Carry Patel. Top class cRPG experts. :obviously:

I think The Outer Worlds is going to be better than this game.

I will keep playing this though instead of Steam Refunding. Talking to the wheelchair lady was pretty enjoyable - a lot better than in TTON, which this game reminds me heavily of.

I think The Outer Worlds is going to be better than this game.

The Outer Worlds is a proper RPG. This is a CYOA / Adventure game with some skills throw into the mix to make it seem like an RPG. There is no real character progression in a classic RPG sense and no combat. How is that not an Adventure game again, a la King's Quest?

A few people on this thread have notated this but will of course be shouted down by the hipster purists and the old heads with the 'get off my lawn' nostalgia goggles on. This game sounds great and would be 100% greater with a proper combat engine and an actual RPG progression system.

Yeah, a combat system. Your guy is barely alive, an alcoholic who can't find his gun but LET'S FIGHT DA BAD GUYS! You'd get killed in two seconds.

This is not some supercop, slick Willy story where your guy is a badass cop busting down the perps and not looking at explosions. The guy is a wreck of a human being. Roleplay, ya know.

You can try and twist this into all the tortured pretzel logic you want but none of that invalidates the cold hard reality that this is an adventure game by any other name. That's ok, I got no problem w/ that if the writing and story are on point. Telltale was making some great stuff for a while, but trying to slap an RPG label on it is disingenuous at best. Roleplay, ya know!

In DOOM I roleplay a Space Marine. In GTA 5 I roleplay gangbangers. In Pac-Man I roleplay... Pac-Man. I think you get my point about how you can warp the narrative quite nicely to turn any game into an RPG if you close your eyes and click your ruby slippers hard enough to wish it.

But everyone agrees that Torment's combat was mostly crap.

It was mostly crap in a way every combat heavy game is a crap - mindless combat for the sake of combat.
The rest of it was good actually - yeah, less complex then in BG maybe? Or maybe not.

A *dream*? That's nightmare! They will spoil them! I have seen it too many tomes - taleted persons changed their lifestyle and enviroment, sity and country only to find themself NOT talented anymore - instead drunk dry as if by a vampire, with all creativeness soaked into the sand.

and yet he still kowtows to the alphabet people :decline:
Yes well, most of those people are assholes too. That's why they're into the LGBTQP-thing; it acts as a shield.

I can appreciate this level of asshole though. It has some decent moments. I, oddly, liked the part where it inexplicably censors the word faggot for no reason out of nowhere in the middle of a conversation where two deranged kids hyped up on drugs are throwing rocks at a corpse. It felt like the author knew it was going to annoy me and deliberately put it there to do that, and something about me just really respects that.

Then my guy had a complete and permanent game-ending mental breakdown because he couldn't figure out if the footprints on the ground around him belonged to 6 or 12 people. Guess I'll start over tomorrow.
