Alright, a more coherent bunch of spoiler-heavy thoughts about something. Maybe it's obvious from space and I'm stupid, maybe it isn't, I'm curious...
What do you guys think. Is this a "dooooh" moment, or a "no it can't be" moment, or a "huh, never thought of it that way" moment?
Was Klaasje in on the whole Wild Pines operation all along?
It doesn't seem to be spelled out anywhere, but it seems to be explain a bunch of stuff.
The way things are layed out, what Harry and Kim work out is this:
1) Klaasje shows up in Martinaise, of all places, some months before. The strike's been going on for months by the point Harry arrives on the scene, and Klaasje's holed up in the place where the Union's enforcers have their own booth and spend a lot of time.
2) Klaasje gets good with the union enforcers, sleeps with at least Titus.
3) She's a spy of some kind, a very competent one.
4) At some point a squad of moraly bankrupt, to put it lightly, Oranjeese mrecenaries show up, sent by Wild Pines.
5) Their commander, a scary-looking badass about Harry's age shows up at the place where Klaasje is staying and makes a nuisance of himself.
6) Klaasje hooks up with the guy. When questioned, she seems to have gotten to know him quite well, shows sympathy for him, even or especially the artrocious parts of him.
7) They're both Oranjeese, as is the rest of the goon squad.
8) Guy gets shot completely out of the blue.
9) Klaasje deals with the situation in a way that escalates the strike situation - she gets the union guys to do the dumbest, most inflamatory thing they could've done, which is publicly claim that they killed the guy, and string him up in a visible place.
10) After the incident not really leading anywhere for a week, Klaasje calls the cops. And, the whole setup with the fake lynching was made in a way which would lead cops to conclude that the Hardies were the ones who did it, and had no motivation other than him being a mercenarie set out to supress the strike.
11) Then when Harry digs into the case, the Hardies point him towards Klaasje.
11) Then Klaasje does something impossibly strange - she dismisses the Hardies motivation as unfounded (she wasn't raped), claims she had nothing to do with it, and makes it look as if the Hardies killed him and are trying to use her to make it look like it wasn't related to the strike.
Then, things evolve towards Klassje having to admit what happened (as far as she knows), but, again, using the situation to frame Ruby, who's part of the Union's drug smuggling operation and basically a member of the Hardie boys. Which, again, serves no purpose other than to cause problems for both the investigation and the Union.
Then, if not arrested, she bails as soon as shit hits the fan.
What I think happened is that Klaasje was in cahoots with either Wild Pines, or maybe just Lely the whole time. I don't think they just met there by accident, and a bunch of her behavior seems to have been directed at escalating the strike situation, or getting the militant union members into trouble, even when she was improvising.
