Regardless of what the default companion skill build out is, you can change it when you first meet them and add them to your party.

I wasn't aware of this. That is an excellent feature. I usually find myself looking up the classes of available companions before starting an RPG so I don't double up too much

Yeah, it's not a finely tuned character creation wizard or anything though, it's handled through conversation. You can basically direct them into one of the general class presets, you won't be selecting all of their points individually. Given that you pick them up early in the game, it's not so bad even if not ideal.

There are no classes in D:OS1 or 2 in general, though. The class only influences your starting skills.

Look, a skellie.

Looks like the Undead Origin is going to be a human/elf male mage called Fane... very interesting! Also that makes the male:female ratio in terms of Origins 4 to 2, which is not what I would have expected. Anyway, very hyped for the game, if they can mantain a good balance throughout Act 2 then it's going to be good.

Maybe the writers were given an explicit guideline to not write an origin which is connected to the character's class. Not to mention that there are no classes, anyone can use any skill. I don't know how the lore works with that, though.

By the way wasn't Avellone supposedly gonna write an Undead origin?

mage called Fane...

As far as I remember from messing around with character creator, none of the origin stories are linked to a starting skillset, only the race is mandatory.

That much is true, my friend! I was actually referring to what I believe is the default class for the character if it's a companion. (Red Prince being a Warrior, Sebille being a Wayfarer etc etc)

Well, given how calm people were about release dates on Grimoire's Steam forums, I'm sure this won't cause any issues or commotion whatsoever on the Steam DOS 2 board.
Difference is , Cleve is an ahole while Larian are professional devs who can talk to people in an intelligent manner.

Swen asked where all the women were and found out there really aren't that many.

(alternate interpretation: a party full of men is more likely to attract them)

Understandable, most games are bound to have a male-dominant audience. Though I still would have expected a 3:3 ratio regarding the Origins due to all the gender-equality drama and whatnot (a thing I try to stay away from).

Hopefully the Origins will be interesting and well-implemented in the game. When I tested the Alpha the feature was barebones, although the bases of the quests were implemented and looked promising.

Fane doesn't strike me as a male-only name, though, it can also be pronounced FanE (like eel) or Fané, not Fayn. Not to mention that outside of anatomical experts you can't see whether a skeleton was a man or a woman. Maybe this particular skeleton doesn't remember its gender or maybe it thinks it's too late to care.

You make a fair point, although an article states that the voice actor for the Undead origin is a male ( http://www.dualshockers.com/divinity-original-sin-2-voice-cast/ ). To be honest, the only thing we can do is wait.
