Melee made you too vulnerable to getting hit.
This is frigging genius, right here.
*makes notes* You get hit if you get too close.

Yeah I was being dense and poking fun at the 'arches' debacle for PoE. But sure, I guess I'll take that as part of the 2% of the times you actually say something.

I didn't want to write a bunch of words about it but alas, your literal-mindedness forces me.

In Div2 there's no active blocking, the active dodge is awful and clumsy when it comes to dodging melee attacks, armor is a lousy %-based DR (also capped at 66%) instead of a flat threshold, and every hit does damage (unless you put points into the evade skill which only affects melee, and that's in the ranged-section even though it benefits melee characters far more; similar deal with deathblows being in the melee group), so melee slugfests are battles of attrition where it's your DPS and health with the aid of chance-of-knockdown-inducing abilities to give you free hits and reprieve versus their DPS and health. I find this boring. Ranged combat in Div 2 is also boring, but jumping backwards all over the place to avoid getting hit held my interest long enough.

Now it's perfectly possible to create a game with fun and viable ranged and melee combat. The one true g-d did it with New Vegas.

I suspect this has been mentioned before, and will be fixed, but still... I really, really hope killing enemies with environmental damage will give you XP in the full release.

Combat with the dog guarding the hatch with a hidden zombie retinue does not trigger for me. Well it did the first time, but I suffered another bug where a character of mine teleported far outside of the combat area when my warrior used phoenix dive, so I reloaded. Now it doesn't trigger.

My ranger is nearly useless compared to the sheer power of my mage character. Even the fighter NPC is better than him. He does 36 or so damage with barrage, while my mage's blasts do far more. Maybe I need a better bow, but one hasn't dropped so yet.

Also I keep on getting exploration XP for places I've been to. This has occurred specifically at the lighthouse.

Excuse me, did i read right that you need to buy two copies t play co-op?

You cant hook up a gamepad and play from one machine, in split screen or split on two screens?

Wtf Larian?

Are you telling me... you are making a game... that is co-op... but which i cannot play with a girl sitting next to me?

BUT INSTEAD.... she has to be somewhere else, her home or whatever and ... we can only interact... ONLINE??

:x :fight::mob::fight:

Godamnit! From all those videos where there are two people playing together i just assumed... arghh!

Youre game was supposed to work by putting two people together, not telling them to each go home and then go online damnit.
No, i dont have money to buy a second computer and no a laptop doesnt bloody work since then the potential female will be sitting on a couch not next to me or in my lap while i heroically save her character or something!

Larian youre ruining my potential love life damnit!

It actually works as a mirror. 100% success rate even. Put a sock in it.

So I couldn't resist the temptation, after all... so far it looks (and plays) really good. Looking forward to the full release

Play it over the intarwebz then LARP it IRL.
Flawless plan, can't go wrong.

I really thought that would be a feature. One way or another.
Seems totally weird that it isnt.

-
i was overblowing it a bit there. a secondary pc or a laptop would serve, playing from two steam accounts, etc.
But it is cumbersome. One would expect more dev support to make actual real co-op as easy as possible, for two owners of the game. Im sure LAN co-op options should not be that much of a problem.

LAN co-op is planned, I think.

Yes, there will be LAN co-op. Larian said during the kickstarter that they expected a significant portion of co-op would be people in the same household (which is why they would optimize it to be able to run on as many laptops as possible, since many households don't have more than one gaming desktop).

A split screen co-op mode would require a lot of extra work to implement. Just in terms of controls and UI, there is no gamepad support, so using one keyboard and mouse to control 2 characters/groups that can separate and each explore, talk, trade, enter turn based combat, etc, would be problematic. Having half the screen size would also impact the current UI and/or usability; most things would fit (at least the map and quest log would need to be cropped), but you wouldn't see much of the world after opening an inventory window, and couldn't have 2 full windows side by side.

2 rpg players living in the same house? what fantasy world do you people live in? :smug:

Eh we lived in the same house as 7 hardcore RPG players for a year.
That was such a sausage fest, still can't believe everybody survived that enviroment.

I lived for 6 months in a house with 4 spanish erasmus students... there were no rpg's involved, some roleplaying tho.

Trying to explore/get on the ork ship that strands on the baech made my monitor/resolution kinda "split" in two and I had to reboot the PC. :P But that's to be expected in an early build.

From what little I have seen, the game is fun! I really like how the combat plays and cant wait to explore more of those spells and attacks. The writing is nice and reminds me of Divine Divinity, as it should be. I really like the interactivity with the items, those small dialogues between the characters etc. Will play more!
