There's a reason Michael Bay gets paid that much money - it's because it's really really hard to do what he does.

You say 'Bioware is hot property' as though it is completely unrelated to their products.

No it's not unrelated to the products. Their products is what has built the customer loyalty and the media favor during their pre-EA period. However, EA didn't buy Bio for its "products", but for the nice and profitable package that came with it and is described above.

It's like when a large corporation decides to invest and buy a well-established franchise/brand in a particular country. It doesn't buy the goods in store, or the employees (usually it fires them) but the brand name/image and everything that comes with it. As simple as that.

This makes me fuckin' laugh as you make it sound like older BIO games weren't primitive. there's NOTHING in BG on the level of ME2's end of game mission opr carry over from ME.
BG had classes that were different from 'shooter'. BG also had stats and skills. And stats and skills driven combat. It had DnD which is far more complex than what DA or ME has. Hey characters could even -die- there. Finally the 2nd part of BG has a much bigger world than a pair of corridors and copy-pasta outdoors and buildings called "planets" in ME. And ME isn't even a RPG, but a primitive console shooter like 10 others.

Or DA's origins or end of game outcomes.
Except all origins lead to the exactly same shit and end of game affects nothing. Wow gimmicks are like some kind of an achievement these days.

Not that I agree with Volourn (BG actually had a rulesystem, so it wins), but all origins leading to the same end isn't a fuck bit more or less advanced than BG - so the fact that there are origins can easily be called an improvement (as it doesn't really change anything, but is a new take on content).

Baldur's Gate is probably one of the worst cases of C&C ever - all companions carried over to BG2 regardless if your character knew them and they pretended to know you. Luckily mods have corrected this, but still

Origins are not C&C. They are merely a (redundant) plot device.

I am curious what you mean here.

Do you mean they're not C&C because their impact on the rest of the game is purely superficial, with dialogue options being tweaked but your choices not changing? That seems to be true, I've done dwarf commoner and elf mage now, and while it's nice to recognize some people and have them recognize you, it didn't make an ounce of difference to the actual options offered.

Or do you mean it's not C&C because a "background" is not a meaningful choice in the course of a game? This might well be true, though on the other hand I'm glad to see the background-trope return to RPGs, a fold it's always been under. There's not like a good P&P series of session in which a good GM who pays attention to your character's backstory brings in elements from it.

Because they didn't add anything substantial to the game in terms of story and c&c. Backgrounds are simply there to take you to the games' starting point, where the actual story begins. They were more like tutorials to familiarize yourself with the chosen class.

Except they do effect the game including, potentially, your ending in meaninful (and not so meaningful) ways.

This is a fact jack, and don't try to make a fuckin' cumback.

Really, how? I know the human noble gets the dog from the start, and mages get the choice to free the tower at the end (I assume other origins do not, dunno, only finished once, the ending areas are so boring), and I think I hear a male human noble can marry the Queen (and maybe a female Alistair?). That's some examples, but I could sympathize with TFK feeling it's not impressive.

So rather than making clever rhymes, give us some examples. I'm curious.

And how about the 120+ hours in between, the Doctors were boasting about? Maybe if they would stick to their "quality over quantity" policy and there weren't so many fucking gameplay hours in between choice and consequence, someone could have noticed.

I never got to finish the game. I got tired of it somewhere in the middle and I quit. Even if there was actual impact on the game ending, that doesn't change shit.

Yes, and also Bio did ONE thing right:
If you are a female of any race but Human, and are romancing Alistar... he dumps you! hahaha!

Here's one that isn't obvious but can happen - dwarf noble can become Orzammar king.

Take that, motherfuckers!

Insert clever insult here
Wasn't Westwood making money for EA? Wasn't Bullfrog? It's pathetic how people keep believing Bioware would somehow survive even as a brand when none of the earlier studios that EA bought have.

There's a lot to criticise regarding DA, but the Origins are actually pretty cool. Just compare it to the Opening Vignettes of ToEE. Not even a contest. And they can influence the outcome of the game. For instance iirc you can become king as human noble. More significant than some ending slide? I say yes.

That's pretty obvious since you're the youngest prince.

So...that's it? Noble origins can become kings? Does that even affect the rest of those storylines?

Should we be impressed?

Oh, I like the Origins. A lot. Very neat idea. But in his typical antagonistic way, Volo seems to be wanting them to be more than they are (assuming he can't cite more impressive examples than he has).

You are an idiot. One of the biggest complaints about the Dwarf Origin is that you can't ebcome king. I bet you don't even know hwo the dwarf boble becomes king, ffs.

There are plenty of examples of various origins effecting the game in various ways. If you play it and paid attention, you would know this. FFS
