They're changing the forumula because it sold so well. So many suckers buying the DLC shitfest of a niche game lets them know if they make a 'tarded mass-market, mass-appeal cartoony-fighting game (with the title 'RPG'), they'll make even more money. Duh.

Looks better to me. DA:O was utter trash but now there is at least a chance of getting a semi-fun Nighty-Nine Nights/Dynasty Warriors style action game.
Agreed. This is one of the rare cases where "dumbing down" the combat makes it actually fun to play. Like Jimbob once posted, DA:O's combat wasn't brainless enough for stupid fun, nor was it particularly complex with its trash mobs. It was just boring.

You are assuming Bioware can make bearable Dynasty Warriors-esque combat. Odds are heavily stacked against that being the case.

DA combat wasn't THAT bad, it was just imbalanced, had far too many trash mobs to grind through, and was too reliant on MMO AI. Deal with that and DA would would have almost been fun to play.

The problem being, it doesn't at all look "fun to play", in that video at least. It looks, on the contrary, pretty simplistic and repetitive. Not my idea of "fun". Maybe I'm wrong, though; I'd really like to be.

Dragon Age was a good game that got ruined by the bad combat encounters (filler combat)

ME2 is a fucking piece of shit third person console shooter. It's not only a worse game then DA but it's also NOT AN RPG

Talking about eufemisms for dumbing down for the console crowd...

no. what ruined da:o was the attempt to make a single player rpg with mmorpg gameplay and inanane writing on the level of the "your panties must be dirty" camp conversation.
the bad combat encounters are just one of the mmorpg mentality symptoms.

The negative reaction to this video, even on console websites, is surprising. Surprisingly awesome I mean.

Oh, Bioware. Enjoy your last days as an autonomous company while you can. Soon enough you will be known as EA Canada.

Reminds me of the so called 'negative reaction' of DA1.. and, we know how that turned out.

We have done a lot of work to make the entry into DA II be smoother and friendlier. You can literally start fighting within 15 seconds of pressing the start button
Meh, Ultima 6 did it first.

If that means they've finally learned to make tutorials skippable, 12 years later...

Or there's just more combat in the tutorial.

Maybe they are doing to do something like you start very strong in the first level and they introduce combat right away, but at the end of the level you get weak somehow, and character creation is introduced.

It would be better than just to skip character creation altogether

The thing about BioWare's rpgs is that they're not very good. They move too slow and the writing is far too contrived and boring to make a second playthrough entertaining. I for one welcome their move to turn all their franchises into shooters and slashers. Mass Effect 2 is their best game to date, and if they can do to Dragon Age 1 what they did to Mass Effect 1 and make Dragon Age 2 a fun, fast hack n' slash action adventure, then they have finally found their niche; pretentious action games.

You were hit pretty early on with a lot of statistics, and I think there were number of people who were a little turned off by that element of the game.

Good thing they didn't release a demo or else people who bought the game might have found out it wasn't their cup of tea

That would work if ME2 was a good shooter... but it isn't.

And popamole shooters are easier to pull off than action rpgs.

Maybe it'll be ok as an interactive movie... after all the wingcommanders considered objectively were sub par space shooters... that screen shot doesn't give me any great expectations tho...

You need reasonably good actors (but not necessary good acting) to pull that off, though, something Bioware has become extremely shitty at recently.

And popamole shooters are easier to pull off than action rpgs.
Exactly.

What do you mean by "more"? Are you that naive to expect that DA2 will have something else besides combat?
