Oh shit, there actually IS some C&C in the dwarf noble origin. SPOILERS FOLLOW
SPOIL SPOIL SPOIL:
First time I played through, I LARPed as an honorable but dickish noble. Wasn't backstabbing anyone, and when the one noble tried to manipulate me I challenged him to a duel and killed his son in the arena. When the youngest brother/prince said Trian was plotting to kill me I acted surprised and denied that such a thing could happen. I got my mission to get the shield, got the shield, then arrived at the dropoff for the shield and found Trian dead, then the third brother arrived with the king conveniently and I got framed and exiled.
Second time I played through, I was making noises about bumping off Trian and taking the throne myself. Played out mostly the same until I got to the dropoff, where I found Trian and a bunch of soldiers, all alive and well. He accused me of plotting to assassinate him which I denied, he said he was going to take me to the king to stand for treason, and I refused and he attacked me. I managed to kill all of them, THEN the third prince showed up after I slaughtered everyone and accused me. So I could have dropped my weapons and surrendered to the first brother and had my treason trial and get exiled, could have killed him and had my treason trial, or been framed entirely and had my treason trial.
Not bad C&C for basically an hour or two of gameplay for getting you into the meat of the real game.
Edit: Another small part of C&C that doesn't have real consequences since this technically is the tutorial but what the hell. In my first playthrough I killed the deal-making noble's son for trying to manipulate me. In my second playthrough I followed his orders since we were scratching eachother's backs. While in prison, you hear that noble tries to defend you, or at least get you a less severe sentence, which obviously doesn't pass. It's a nice bit of continuity though.
Edit 2: Since I killed my brother this time, the "Forced to join the Grey Wardens" dialog was slightly different too. I had a "I deserve to die down here for what I've done" dialog, where they say "lol put yourself to good use join us kill some orcs save the world" and you say "lol ok". Still Biowaring you into joining them, but hey.
