Dustborn and Flintlock and Outlaws and Concord and Forspoken and Unknown 9 and Alan Wake 2 and Senua's Saga flopped - in fact you'd be hard pressed to name a single game with a female or POC protagonists that was actually successful lately (IIRC even Forbidden West was a sales disappointment) - but none of this is allowed to be acknowledged or discussed.
Stellar Blade did pretty well but that had a HAF female Anime protagonist with awesome jiggle tech. Strangely the gaming audience wanting to pay to play ugly, flat-chested, female, black characters seems to be quite small, so naturally Bioware is shooting for this niche audience with Veilguard.

Yea AZN games are a totally different case, obviously, tons and tons of uber-successful lolli and jiggli games with female protags but there's almost a philosophical difference - Western devs are giving gamers what they think we need. AZN devs are giving us what they think we want.

Imagine the trepidation at Bioware to release this thing seeing as how there's 0 positivity going on around it. I wonder how EA allowed them to create this monstrosity when it would've been obvious from the concept stage that it's going to be awful. The suits must be severely out of touch (which won't surprise me). It's too bad EA can't even profit off of their evil ways.

Every story we’ve ever heard about BioWare’s time at EA sounds like EA is largely hands off with BioWare.

The only real stories about EA higher ups I can think of “recently” involving BioWare is someone at EA is the reason BioWare didn’t cut flying from Anthem, (so the thing people liked most about that game is only there because of EA) and the CEO seeing this game and saying “At least your load times are great.” after the person presenting the game instantly died during a demo.

My guess would be that given EA’s bad reputation, and BioWare in the 2000s having a good reputation with the online gaming crowd that would get EA voted worst company in America, (over companies that actually killed people) that EA largely just stayed hands off with them. BioWare made them money, and BioWare made them look good to do degree. BioWare has had some big blunders, but Inquisition was a surprise hit for BioWare, so EA staying hands off with them returning to Dragon Age wouldn’t be completely crazy. It’s win win for EA either way; if it’s a success EA looks good and it’s good for EA, if it’s a failure EA can safely shut down BioWare with much online backlash.

Cope some more. If DA turns into a failure, EA will just put Bioware to work on some Marvel or Star Wars or Mass Effect stuff instead. They've invested more than over a decade now into this studio, Bioware isn't going anywhere.

If we can build up friendships and romance, then why not antagonism, if we have different values and opposing world views ? Having a common goal doesn't make these differences go away. It was a nice touch and a welcome break from the lovey-dovey merry band of brothers that we get as "party members" in most other RPGs.
NWN 2 sort of did this too, where at the end of the game certain members of your party would betray you if their influence was too low. Fine and dandy, but it really begged the question why they even stuck it out so long in the party to begin with.

There never seems to be a strong enough impetus in the plot to most rpgs to keep people that hate each other bound together long-term, even if there is some hypothetical Satan to overcome, most of the time he is only truly relevant to a select few in the party. Competing egos would make even good characters split, believing their rival is hindering the mission. Good and evil characters are even worse being like oil and water, unless they're the mercenary or pragmatist brand of evil that's just there to collect a payout, not caring for details only for results, like Canderous in KotOR. "Yeah, your volunteer work at the homeless shelter is cringe, but you're effective in combat and your leadership is peerless. I like winning and we win all the time so I'll stick with you."

Baldur's Gate 1 had it mostly right, but most games don't have the luxury of such a huge pool of companions to replace malcontents. Sometimes there's only one cleric, thief, etc. so their presence in the party is a necessity. Personally, I kinda hate influence systems, feels like you're staring at the gages in the control room of a reactor. All your focus shifts from what you wanna say to what you need to do to keep the piss-babies from going critical and storming off. Sometimes I wish I had the option to just pay them in gold to stfu and do their jobs.

A portrait, a voice, a biography, a reason for being where they are, people they like and people they hate (and people they like to make fun of) and enough replacements to let you actually enjoy the repercussions of people getting killed. Perfect.

I liked the "rival" system in Dragon Age 2, very underrated and should be used more and improved upon in party-based RPGs,
It was a nice touch and a welcome break from the lovey-dovey merry band of brothers that we get as "party members" in most other RPGs.
No. It was gay and stupid.
It's just the standard stupid approval system with a small change.

Friendship - My friend, I will stand by your side!
Neutral - Fuck you, I'm switching sides.
Rival - I don't agree with you, but I respect you. I will stand by your side!

Such an improvement. They just switched neutral approval with a negative one.

Maybe Bioware is a big fan of Book of Revelation.
“'I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth."

You should read your Bible every day fellas, there's all kind of crazy shit in it.

If (when) Veilguard fails Bioware will become another Electronic Arts statistic.

Yes, only the difference is when EA was putting the bullet into Bullfrog, Pandemic, Westwood, Maxis or Visceral, they were executing strong outfits full of talented, experienced veterans.

Killing Bioware in 2025 would mean killing a bloated undead corpse full of diversity hires, reeking of vegan farts and hair dye.

The real problem is that all the carrion worms that infest said corpse will scatter and find shelter elsewhere.
A few years ago, maybe. Today the unending mass layoffs from tech and vidya companies suggest the era of feasting is over for the worms.

Oh, they'll try to start their own shitty indie studios because that's all they (barely) know how to do. We'll see a stream of shit that a certain News Poster will be delighted to flood the forum with. "FROM THE CREATORS OF DRAGON AGE...!"
