It's not only about graphics. The PS4 version probably has a better, more stable, framerate.
Good for the PS4 version, but it has no bearing on how optimized the PC version is.

I would rather have a playable port then a broken mess like bladestorm, and since when do people care about graphics in these type of games.

I care for 60fps, PS3 ports are 30fps, the PS4 version is 60fps.

Kinda does. If they're porting an inferior and unstable version, the best we could get is a slightly polished inferior and unstable port.

And considering KT's reputation, I doubt they'll do much of a job with this port.

I'm enjoying it so far, but the difficulty is severely lacking. It does seem to be slowly ramping up though, and the game hasn't finished introducing new features, so I'm guessing it's still basically in tutorial mode. If the end/post game content is difficult, I'll be damned happy with this.

Guize, is this worth it? DQ 8 was one of the best JRPGs I ever played. Then came the massive decline when DQ9 was on fucking Gameboi and then it went online and Japo only.

I know this is an action rpg and thus not turnbased, but is it any good? DO you only control 1 character, and the AI controls the rest of the party? If so, how is the AI? Retarded or passable?

And can you choose your character at the start or build your own?

This isn't a action rpg its a typical warriors game which means a hack and slash.
You only control one character but can switch with others while the ai controls everybody else.
The ai is retarded for both friendly and enemy which is in typical warriors fashion.
So if you are looking for a typical jrpg game in vein of dragon quest look somewhere else.

So, I've gotten a bit farther. Difficulty has picked up, I've lost a couple times now (not that I'm playing particularly well or anything, but it's more than I can say of a lot of games these days.) Most of the systems have revealed themselves at this point I think, along with most of the cast. Characters are fairly varied; you get some interesting stuff like team buffing spells that you wouldn't see in this genre normally, and they don't all follow the DW formula of having a bunch of light, light, (repeat n times) heavy comboes. Some have ranged weapons, others combo in different ways, etc. The monster medal thing is actually pretty neat; you don't keep them between battles so they act as sort of resources you acquire by smashing enemies and then deploy to defend shit while you cover other parts of the battle. Also some medals are just 1 shot deals that do things like cast a spell or restore hp or mp. Enemy variety isn't shabby either, you get various spellcaster type enemies, enemies that can block, etc. The bosses are fairly interesting too, besides the lame first one. The character building systems are pretty simple but at least give you some options, like specializing in a particular special attack or stat or whatever. I'm nowhere close to filling out all the skills, I doubt it's possible even at the level cap, though you can probably get to like 70-80% or something. Then again, I dunno what the level cap is, might only be 30 or 50 or something. Equipment has room to be an incredible grindfest if you're into that, there's options for crafting with random bonuses so I'm sure you can imagine how out of hand that could get.

The actual combat is surprisingly good; you actually control a team of 4 characters, cycling between them. You also have an extra resource besides your tension (musou basically) which you use to cast spells/abilities. In musou mode you can cast those spells for free and when it ends you get a big finisher move that basically clearly your field of view. The lower level enemies don't pose much threat, but the stronger ones can be pretty annoying, especially in groups. Fighting multiple golems or killing machines at a time, for example, can be a pain. And even the little cunts can be a problem by way of status effects; silencing you or lowering your defense or whatever. The last set of resources you get are yggdrasil leaves (revive party members, you get too many of these imo) and healstones (these at least cost you money and only restore some hp.)

If anyone has a more specific question than 'is gud?' feel free to ask.

What about optimization? Last time I got burned with Toukiden (thank Gabe for refunds), so I am not going to pay full price. Maybe on some sale if it runs at least decent.

I dare ask, how's the story? I know most musou games have a thin story, but some can be a little enjoyable.

So is it serviceable or is there some dumbfuckery? By DQ/DW standards, anyway.

Optimization is fine as long as you play on anything beside 1920 resolution .
My 750 ti and 4460 max it out easily at 1600 resolution(minus ambient occlusion which i always disable)

I honestly can't tell the difference between 30 and 60 fps anyways, so I'm probably not the best person to ask. But for what it's worth, it runs on max settings on my system (put it together for ~700$ a few months ago) just fine. No slowdowns (that I notice), can alt tab out quickly, no crashes, etc.

I haven't actually been following the DQ series for a while (unless you count the joker spinoffs, I guess) but it seems passable enough, considering how contrived you need to make a story for a musou game. Seems like it has characters from the series crossing over (I don't recognize them but there's a lot of 'this isn't our world!' going on) and the basic premise of monsters living alongside humans then suddenly turning evil is pretty derpy. But the plot is basically a generic 'lets go kick ass and save the world' which is all I expected. Gets a bit long winded at times but you can skip scenes if you want, and I actually don't mind the chemistry of the characters or the quirky writing (writer uses a lot of needlessly long words and alliteration etc.) even if the characters are rather one-dimensional.

Certainly no worse than the DW stuff in my book. Listening to people drone on about how noble Liu Bei or whoever the fuck is gets old rather fast.

I played a little today and it's a very charming game, a really respectable merging of Musou and DQ.

However, the optimization is complete shit, and I don't say this very often. I've played pretty much all of the shitty Koei Tecmo ports and they all ran maxed without issues. My rig is middle of the road (i5 3570k OCd to 4.4GHz, GTX 770) but there's no way the game should run as badly as it does. If I want 60 fps I have to run it at 1600x900 on medium quality (and I still get drops), which is really inexcusable. By all accounts the PS4 version is 1080p 60fps, right?

I'm a little disheartened by it, although the game itself is quite fun.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
Been playing this on and off since I got it. The game is pretty easy. I have been forced to use a few healing stones and Yggdrasil leaves during some challenges, but the game isn't super challenging. Then I came to a side quest with a boss that tore me a new one. I somehow doubt that I should take on this quest right now. Got the boss down to half health and then he went mad and summoned more minions. It was fun as hell to do the fight, but at level 42, it feels like it was unbeatable.

If you don't like Dragon Quest, I am not entirely sure you have much to see here. It is, in my opinion a solid time wasting game, but I feel this way because of the IP, I think. (I did however like Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll which plays similarly.)

It's annoying me that you can't rebind the gamepad controls
