What if it's Sony - Japan?

FromSoftware is done. Even if Sony won't force their exclusivity, they will stick their dirty hands into the pot and spoil everything. There's no way they could resist stupid suits that want only money and think that if they will force FS to follow common pracices, then they will get usual money from their games +extra from usual shitty pracices (all businessmen believe this)

Remember when Activision published Sekiro in the west, and a huge subset of loud screeching autists tweaked out, thinking it would make Sekiro decline and LGBBQ and shitty?...And then that didn't happen? I know this is a level above that, but I can see Miyazaki sticking to his guns and the games actually not being affected. Miyazaki needs to start katana-slashing salarymen if (when) they start, though.

Which is why Demon's Souls and Bloodborne were such complete dog shit.

Publisher is publisher, but if they will be owned by a new company, there will be new rules

That was before California Sony. Look at Demon's Souls Remake for California Sony treatment

And I'm saying that Sony had already tried things during those two games due to exclusivity and lending company expertise which is why you see other companies in the credits of those games and yet they are arguably two of the best games Fromsoft made.

You mean the one made by an entirely different company that put their own spin on it? That game? The one, to be clear, that was not made by Fromsoft. That's what you think spells doom for Fromsoft?

I am 95% sure FromSoftware won't be left unscathed and new direction will be forced upon them

Time will tell, for sure. I mean there's no question that things will change, but that'd be true if the Chinese or Koreans managed a hostile takeover too. As it is, I'm sure FS prefers being taken over by another Japanese company than a Chinese one. All they could do is mass resign, start a new company that they keep private and try to develop new IP after raising capital.

You ever see what Korean RPGs are like? Fuck, From could've been pumping out gacha P2W shit all day and night.

You'd think that, but Sony will probably sue them over their patented 'character swings a melee weapon' technology they now own from buying FS. Japan might be late to the party, but the signs of it following the west's meteoric fall (why the fuck was the phrase 'meteoric rise' ever coined when meteors, by definition, cannot do anything except fall?) are abundantly clear at this point. It's just going to be a big merger shitshow like it was in the west until it's all being directed by retarded suits that think games are dumb.

Indies are all that is left.

Quit being such a doomer. Besides, Sony is (somehow) less gaming litigious than Nintendo. I think.

Anyway, it's not going to happen anyway, so no sense in worrying about it. I still think it would be a better outcome than what they're trying to avoid. It's a business. Shit happens.

I'm with Damned Registrations here, I can't think of one aquisition where a studio maintained or improved the quality of their output post sale. Bullfrog, Bioware, Bethesda (already shit, but became much shittier), Obsidian, Dice, Origin, Westwood. Most of those were ruined by corporate greed and retardation alone, in an era where there was no mandated DEI. Just think what would happen now (hint: Starfield). I am not a pesimist or optimist, I'm completely objective to a fault and I just can't find any arguement or evidence that a corporate acquisition of a game studio brings positive results.

I'm not saying it'll be a positive development for From, I'm saying it's better than the alternative because there doesn't appear to be a route where the status quo is maintained. Sometimes you have to try and take the least shit option.

Given the industry ups and downs, I'm surprised more Codexers haven't figured out the virtue of pragmatism.

Come on man, you've been around long enough to know how this will probably pan out if the purchase goes ahead. From survive as a company but, unless we get an exception proving a rule here, it would likely be the beginning of the end of something we as a group tend to enjoy.

I'd be delighted to be wrong in that instance of course.

Sure, now tell me what it looks like under the hostile takeover that they're trying to avoid.

Not saying it would be any better. Just disappointing to see From at risk of losing their relative independence regardless.

If the acquisition materializes not only From Software and all the soulsborne stuff is going to get kill, but anime itself too. Kadokawa is the biggest producer of anime and Light Novels after Aniplex, which is already owned by Sony. This could end as bad as when DIsney bought the whole western entertainment industry, if not worse.
