ELEX ELEX RELEASE THREAD

Do you remember where to find it? It must have been somewhere in the Domed City or possibly the Hort.
The energy sword is in the basement of the building where you find Kral. The basement is full of poison, though, so eat or inject something to boost your poison resistance before you go down there.

Maybe get a pair of classic sunglasses, which will highlight all loot, to make it easier to find. You can find the shades:

. South Southeast of the south Abessa converter—where the separatists are headquartered. The sunglasses are on top of a car, the car is in the middle of a bridge that’s very easy to see on the map.
I've finished the game and got the shades too. I just couldn't remember where I found "Energy Regent Sword I". It is a good tip for new players.

Thanks guys.

Upgrade and buy shit when you can, you'll just get really frustrated using Sack of Shit Axe for 20 hours just so you can get Cleric gear like 1 hour faster.

Huh. And no unique loot whatsoever. Figures, since it's Elex and exploration sucks.

Yes, very bizarre indeed. Could have spared 20 seconds to come up with a note to place on the throne, at least, with something witty in it. Like, it's a perfect place for another Fred was here note.

I found this earlier tonight and I was pretty surprised there was no unique loot there since it's one of the harder fights (at least considering monster level) I had seen up to that point plus it was behind a waterfall hidden away. That said, next to the valley of the damned teleporter there's a small cave with a pretty high level enemy (for the area) in there. Same deal, throne and some minor cool props, and even better there's a sweet unique 2hd axe there as well. Anyways was def like wth after killing the ice troll and only finding some elex and silverware.

As I said earlier in the thread: at the same time the coolest and the most disappointing place in the game.

Still getting savagely raped by pretty much everything at level 11. :negative:

I did manage to get Ray, he seems a fair bit stronger than Duras. With my kiting and his decent damage, we can even take out 2 Reavers simultaneously. Takes about 7-8 minutes and a couple reloads, though.

Since I'm gunning for the Clerics, should I just clench my anus and try to make a run for their base and attempt to join so I can finally get some decent equipment or do they have too many combat-related quests needed for joining?
You can just run to the domed city and once you unlock the teleporter there, it will also unlock the teleporter outside the Cleric city.

Just buy some alb spells from Fenk the Separatist in Domed City if you're desperate.
Power wave is a guaranteed knockdown.
Force push is high damage.
The Drone Control is really good damage too.
But those are expensive.
If you want a 'decent weapon', head to the Fort in Tavar and buy Hand Grenades.
It requires no attribute to equip and deals a good chunk of damage from lvl 1-15 without the need for ELEX potion boost.
Do Fort Quest for a bit, earn shards/exp. When you're ready to move on, join the clerics and then spend all the attribute points on unlocking PSI Passives.
Spam Black Hole till end game. Win.

I tried using the Drone Control while fighting the Colossus for the Drone companion part and didn't think it was useful, just kept following around even when the Colossus was attacking me, it probably would have acted if I was damaged or if I attacked the Colossus but I got one shotted by it and without Arx distracting it a little bit I couldn't get near it without dying.

Kinda wish if there was some commands to give to companions or summons or whatever.

Yeah the companion AI is messed up. That is why engaging targets with ranged attack is recommended, since it signals the companions to 'attack' that target.
If you don't attack at the enemy for a period of time, the companion will cease his attack and just tail you again.

Anyway for Colossus, the best early game approach is just to chuck grenades at it.
Grenades are relevant from lvl 1-15 until you wield weapons that can surpass 60 damage.
In my first two playthroughs, I went to Domed City. That gave me Plasma.
In my third playthrough, Tavar was my first destination and the Hand Grenade made everything simpler.

I am interested in buying this game after a couple of patches and stability in terms of updates, but can anyone share (in brief) about how the game is? Is it as great as the Gothics? Did you enjoy the game? What are the games strengths?

Probably should read Watch review or wait for Darth's review, watch a video of the combat to see if you'll like it or not.

Game is great, go buy it now.

Use Caja for early game companion (found in Domed City) as she uses a ranged fireball attack and she's free to recruit (unlike U4 which requires a lot of luck and evasion). You can abuse kill chimeras (and even trolls with some evasive maneuvers) with Caja at lvl5 with the dot of the fireball, all other companions take way too much time. Abuse this only on quests though (killing 3 chimeras who can't attack back due to lack of ranged is a good example) , you'll be killing those mean trolls in no time.

For ranged combat Tier1 weapons are shit, still go find one (do the trader quest in front of Hort and select the free weapon, cheapest way in early game) and upgrade it at least once. Continue the no combat quests until you can equip a tier2 lazor with the help of Elex potions, congrats now you'll be able to dent and kill the non-skull enemies with your companion. Once you have enough wealth to craft and equip a T3 weapon the game is over, as you can kill everything even without a companion (with a bit of evasion of course). Then you find the unique plasma rifle in U4's quest converter, join the clerics and equip their armor along with the spells (weapon damage/armor/last stand) and laff at everything. Exploration is still fun though.

The whole character system is about establishing economy of your character first, everything else is of no priority. If you play your cards right (for example, screw all viking quests in most profitable way possible) in first 1.5 cities, you can craft endgame weapon without using any metaknowledge to get one at level 15 or so and use it. It's possible even without Trophies - these won't do anything for you anyway before you actually get a weapon to kill monsters to get trophies. Tier 1 thievery, maybe lockpicking, and focus on upgrading your weapon of choice. So basically first city and a few hours more you run with 10 STR/CON and 30 DEX/CUN/INT getting economy skills, then Chemistry, sniff on elex and pump STR/DEX to like 60+, upgrade weapon, go out of town and feel like a greek god with lightning bolts and flame coming from your eyes (unlike b4 as flame only came from your ass burned by skullenemies).
For clerics it's Regent's sword since it's higher tier and does more damage in the end. Or just pump PSI it's a lot easier. If you want to stay factionless for most of the game to get most quests though, you'll want the sword.

behind the waterfall.

you get a throne of bones.

Is anyone else getting a lot of classic Command and Conquer (namely TibDawn and RA1) vibes from this game?

Like the whole meteor coming in bringing not-Tiberium is one thing, but there are a few places here that look ridiculously close to early C&C buildings. Like the thingy with three domes next to the fort is suspiciously similar to the TibDawn tech center:

I'm also fairly sure I stumbled upon a gap generator at some point

Do you remember where to find it? It must have been somewhere in the Domed City or possibly the Hort.

Nope, it’s actually in Edan. You know Caldrim’s quest to find the lost elex for the mana shrine? He sends you to search for a guy named Kral.

Kral is in a building near the Teleporter that’s almost directly south of Goliet—really south and a little west, about two thirds of the way to the ocean.

The energy sword is in the basement of the building where you find Kral. The basement is full of poison, though, so eat or inject something to boost your poison resistance before you go down there.

We are talking about the "Energy Regent Sword I" btw.
47 energy-based damage but unlike physical damage every single point hurts.
And the Str / Dex requirements are moderate with only 43 each.
...
I didn't remember where I found it because I'm a completionist so I basically search every place I visit. With a fine-toothed comb.
And then I forget about the safes and locked chests I still couldn't open and I curse this stupid fucking game because why can't I place my own map markers?! :argh:

Anyway, as always Google knows the answer, there's a video.

So it's in some ruin south of Goliet, in a cellar full of toxic gasses.

but you can place map marker (maybe only one i don’t have tested)

Don't take Duras with you.

Only one. Anything more could confuse stupid console kids. (That's what the designers think)

Has been said itt but let me repeat: Fuck that quest compass! Is it so hard to describe locations? In one dialogue out of hundreds you can follow up with a question to get a real location description, as if they want to spite us.

You can let Kral keep the Elex so he can heal his brother. I don't know the trigger, whether it's completing the quest or waiting a day, but after you can go back and find that he's found a way to cure his brother of being a mutant.

That sounds pretty sweet if true.

Wonder if you can report back twice and update the old man if you choose to inform him.

Will be pretty cool.

Kinda makes me wondering if I should protect the experimental guy in the next quest and see if you can see any results as well.

I thought Kral was the Berserker.

I thought Ray's brother was dead or something.

You can also double cross

buy the elex off him, report it to the guy at the mana shrine who asks if you killed the mutant, say no, and he sends other berserkers to kill them both -- when you go there, two new 'zerks are there.

Interesting, quite a few branches to this quest.
