Indeed. Good thing they're nerfing that next patch. :smug:

With lower station stocks of rare goods, people will have to figure out what else to bring along in the cargo bay and it won't completely eclipse all other avenues of income.

Just find out some rare goods are illegals too... I did not dare to try the smuggling in a secured station, too many jumps to fuck it up , but i can imagine the extra profits. Made like 1 million just hauling them for 180LY.

You found HyperCoke? :3

Not even, just kamitra cigars and yaso kondi leafs, they are considered as tobbaco and are illegal , how convenient , in HIP 10175. The station selling the rare meat has also a black market.

Really they should just get rid of rare items. It's going to encourage a massive volume of trade between rare producing systems and there's no economic incentive to trade anywhere else. Even if they only make them pop up randomly, it's going to encourage a significant population to always check those stations.

The only way I think to make rare trade goods work is if their system and item name are completely randomized. Switch it up every day in terms of what systems are producing. That way, if a rare producing system has no human visitors, it retains the stockpile, but there's no way to exploit already known locations.

That or get rid of it completely.

It this really a problem? We have 400 BILLION !!!! star systems in the game, there are probably millions of systems with rare goods which you haven't found. If people have some brains, they will not check the same 4-5 stations over and over, because they will dry out. But go out and explore new stations instead.

this shit is exactly why this thing needs a wipe before release... people underestimate the importance of equipment/ships and how much people like to grief

aren't only the "core" 190k charted systems are populated?

Someone already found a list of all the rare goods in the game JC-chan :3

Yep. Dunno if it's 190k but there's a "blob" of populated systems that makes up a tiny fraction of the galaxy. That contains the Fed/Emp/Ali/Independants and everything beyond that is basically uncharted territory. FD said (and take this with a grain of salt) that new systems would be populated depending on player traffic. So if a lot of players start going to system X because it has earthlike planets (mucho scan creds) or metallic mineral belts, outposts and eventually ocellus stations will pop up. If a populated system gets tons of traffic due to being a trade lane or lots of missions being done, existing stations may get more prosperous.

my 190k figure is just an assumption based on that figure of current systems charted in detail Braben mentioned, or something of the sort. it's probably even less than that ('cause there's surely some systems that aren't worth colonizing :P).

anyway, i hope they introduce some "megatransports" so that we can stumble upon them transporting station sections (or whole stations) to the spot and see the construction instead of just them popping into a system. speaking of that, after they introduce the 30 playable ships it'd be cool if they spent some time implementing some NPC-only ships to make station traffic more diverse (like unarmoured transports (space minivans), hugeass transports (space semi), cheap civilian unarmoured liners (space bus!), small fast "sports" ships and other various civilian vessels (space cars!) you'd only see near planets or big/hugely populated stations, more classes of military ships [cruisers, carriers, troop transports...] to make battlegroups more interesting, etc), and of course more station variety (like in that concept art)... it really needs more "flavour" and fake life in at least the more populated systems

btw, how do you find the Asp compared to the Cobra (other than the obvious increase in cargo space)?

Liking the asp pretty well. It's still fairly nimble (at least compared to the Lakons... ugh). The jump range is really good. Couple it with the fuel tank and I can make 180ly trips without refueling. The engine has a nice sound too. The weapon placement is quite good too. Unlike the cobra, everything is clustered nicely together so you can hit your target at close range. The cockpit is nice and open, giving you a good field of view. I'm running B5 shields and A2 Shield Battery Cells and so far nothing has been able to scratch me. It's definitely a solid upgrade from the cobra.

It's also the last generalist ship upgrade, so I'm probably stiking with it for a while. The Lakon-9 is only good for trade/exploration and the python jump range and cargo hold makes it a poor upgrade from asp for anything but fightan. And anaconda is just lolno. Once my asp is kitted out, I'll probably look into getting a second, smaller ship (viper or cobra) before going python.

The Ocellus star ports are actually able to equip giant engines and fly to where they're needed. They're generally the first kind of major starport that pops up in a system being settled. That way they can be assembled elsewhere and flown to where they're needed. I'd love to see a bigass starport construction plant in orbit somewhere though. I agree on the additional npc ship types being a nice touch. ATM all we have are the two capships and fed/imp fighters afaik.

But only a few of those systems are hand made with lore included, and amongst them a small % have rare goods. When you tried this its just too good to trade anything else indeed.

Oh, and the patch is cosmetic, as usual.

- Alliance stations now have their own colour swatch
This confirms that they are not going to make different factions look more distinct in any way. Pathethic.

- Route planning added

And that's all what matters. :smug:

And that launch trailer was awful. I mean, absolutely disgusting. I didn't expect gameplay, I just wanted to look some cool shit. I'm loving the hell out of the EVE Online trailers afterall. But Frontier fucked it up. Mainly because of the music, but the footage wasn't too good either.

Also, I was wondering what Ulminati said about someone already mapped the galaxies for rare goods and posted them online. But what about the excitement of exploration, when you find those stations with rare goods, you find the trade routes all by yourself. I know not all of you read those "hints", but I imagine many players just reads the list and goes farming. Maybe because I'm only playing for the sake of having fun, and not getting filthy rich, but I want to do everything by myself. Of course I won't turn a deaf ear if some says: Hey J_C, there is good stuff at LT16635, but I won't read a checklist and play like a droid just to get rich.

There's an enormous chance you would never find them otherwise. How exciting is that?
