Uh, guys, can we stop the retardation? Expanding your realm not only through conquest, but also settling new regions and said settling phase being a very important part of the gameplay is, and always was, an absolutely basic and mandatory requirement for a game to be 4X. In other words, yeah, "Civilization/MoM/MoO clone".
Well, I regard annexing passive neutrals as a form of colonization, in the classic European sense, so it still counts.

There is a patch out with AI improvements: better diplomacy, CPU should now use troops with different unit types (as opposed to stacking a single type). I haven't had the time to try it, yet, but it looks promising.

Anyway, I love the mechanics of this games (siege apart). I think this game is great, but it's partially ruined by the inconsistent AI behaviour: you're weaker? they hate you. You're stronger? They hate you. You are their best bro? They love you for a while... and then they start hating you. I just want some love...

Yep, I did some more testing and the diplomatic behaviour of the AI is still completely schizophrenic, which really spoils the sp experience for economic/diplo factions. You just spend tons of influence (that can be used for empire plans that give sweet bonuses), give them technologies to even accept the beneficial deals you propose (forget about getting anything without sweetening the deal with your stuff, and they don't settle for pennies either) and slowly grind to get the alliance and some trading agreements in place and then after like 2 or 3 turns "oh hai cold war" because reasons. Sandnigger governors at least have the skills that allows trade routes during cold/regular war, but that's not really enough.

Oh, and I'm not sure if that was changed by patching or something, but when I played a few games after a break I noticed that both luxury and strategic resources were much more rare for me. I remember in my initial Vaulter campaigns I had like over a half of luxury boosters on at all times and no problem with any of the strategic resources, but not anymore. Perhaps it was just my luck, but if it was changed then good, as it forced me to use the market and I wasn't able to spam every building everywhere on top of constant +50% bonus to everything.

AI still avoids researching some basic, cheap but useful technologies. And avoids searching temples/exploring ruins. Latest patch also allowed me to play with Mezari faction, despite not having Dote or Endless Space. Strange, because Mezari units have no textures and all look like pink dildos. True story.

You guys sure about that? A few times I saw some yellow (quest-related) unit stacks on the map and I wasn't the one who spawned them.

If you zoom out to the cloth map you'll notice that ruin icons look different

Some are glowing yellow, others are dull yellow

Dull yellow means another player has explored it

So, nobody here cares about the best turn-based strategy of 2014? Free update and expansion has been announced:

Dear all,

Last week we attended the Game Developer Conference in San Francisco, with SpaceTroll and Skamaks. This was the perfect timing to show the latest Xbox One build of Dungeon of the Endless which is really taking shape into a smooth console game, as well as the exciting new content coming for Endless Legend. We also disclosed some sales figures and I am happy to announce that Endless Legend has sold 400 000 copies. Thanks all for your trust and love!

I would like to take some time explaining the future content you will find in Endless Legend. We plan on releasing both free updates and commercial expansion packs. Endless Legend is already a rich game, but it has the potential to grow even bigger. This is why we have spent time since release figuring out how we should expand it. Obviously, all your suggestions were taken into account, and we threw in our ideas as well.

What is the difference between updates and expansions? Well updates will be free and available to anyone, while expansions will be purchased through a reasonable fee. This is necessary as a sizable live team (bigger than the one on Endless Space) is working on Endless Legend to bring new content. As a general rule of thumbs, expansions will bring significant new game mechanics. One of the big nuts to crack was how to handle expansions in multiplayer, as we wanted to avoid fragmenting our community between owners of expansions. The system is simple: the host of the multiplayer game activates the available DLC, and all players joining the game benefit from it in this match. So if one of your friends buys the expansion, you will be able to try it out before you decide to purchase it. An internal system will allow the host to enable/disable his/her expansions.

The next free update will be called EYE ON THE STARS, and will be released on March 18th. It contains the following features:
  • An improvement on diplomacy allowing you to ask an empire to declare war on another empire.
  • An integrated set of AI and Simulation tools, which allow you to browse through all the variables of an empire. Very useful for modders who want to understand what is going on. It allows you to switch between empires, so obviously this will be available in a special launch mode, to avoid multiplayer cheats.
  • The world generation is enriched with a system of presets, offering exotic continents layout: New World, Scattered, Symmetrical.
  • A Victory Quest has been added. Once you complete your main faction quest, you can attempt to achieve this quest to win the game (new victory condition). I will not give more details to allow you to discover this yourself.
  • A new outgame scene featuring the Drakkens has been added.
  • New Steam achievements have been added per G2G design and vote.
  • The Dorgeshi minor faction (G2G) has also been added.
  • 6 new keyboard shortcuts as requested on the forum.

The first expansion pack will be released on April 16th and is named GUARDIANS, priced at 9.99€ (adapted to other currencies). It will contain the following elements:
  • 15 Legendary Deeds completed at the various ages, granting a special advantage to the first empire to reach it.
  • 5 Legendary buildings can now be built in your cities, only once for all empires. They have a special 3D visual on the city.
  • 10 Unique buildings: when some Legendary Deeds are achieved, all empires may build these special buildings, one per city in your empire.
  • New Guardian mega-units. There are five of them, one for each element: Dust, Earth, Water, Air and Fire. They are built on a city and animated into a one man killer-army.
  • 15 Guardian Weapons.
  • 5 Guardian Gemstones (new accessory category).
  • 5 Global quests! You can now play quests in cooperation or competition with other empires.
  • 6 Global events: new random events which bring interesting positive or negative situations.
  • 8 new technologies which unlock Guardians or are unlocked by Legendary Deeds.

We are all very excited to see you play this new content, and cannot wait to get your feedback.

Thanks,

IMO this
An improvement on diplomacy allowing you to ask an empire to declare war on another empire.

is most crucial improvement. It should be in the vanilla game version, though.

Unless they fix the AI requiring lots of technological/gold gifts to agree to anything and then breaking the deal 3 turns later anyway it's not an improvement at all.

For fixing they should work on:

1. AI not being bipolar and/or schizophrenic.
2. Combat and siege mechanics.

For content they should work on:

1. Some more faction-specific units.
2. Some magic, even if very basic.

Looks like they are only working on the units. I'm not complaining though, this game blows recent 4x competition out of the water, it's just that it has potential to be something more if given proper care.

I think it's funny that they slipped, once, and referred to "expansions" by their true name, DLCs.

They are DLCs, since in order for the stated plan to work, the data for each DLC must surely be installed on all players' hard drives in the latest game version, even though players who haven't purchased the DLCs won't be able to access that content outside of multiplayer.

So: Storage space on my hard drive, which I purchased with valuable currency and rightfully own, will be used to store data that is junk data except for the purpose of multiplayer matches. Perhaps I only play solo games and my hard drive has limited space.

What a time we live in! This is actually a great time to stop playing computer games and take up other hobbies. It's what I've been doing lately, and I've been a lot less pissed-off.

I'm not seeing anything in that "expansion" that excites me enough to get it. I'd like to see a new faction or the old factions be fleshed out even further. New units, proper ones, would be nice as well. A single powerful thug doesn't exactly strike me as something that adds to the tactical depth of the game.

Are you fucking serious ?
15 years ago you'd gladly shell out 20$ (or 30$ to be more precise, counting inflation) or more for an extra faction or two at best and a couple of extra maps or missions, but one third of the price for more, optional content+sizeable free updates is bad because they call it expansion instead of DLC?

Not to mention you don't seem to understand the concept behind DLC. Not every game works like Destiny and will put the content you didn't buy in your hard drive, specially not single player games, so not only you're getting pissed about something you don't know for sure if is going to happen or have any real indication of, if hypothetically you can't handle an extra 300 mb or probably less in your hard drive, then it's probably time you buy a new hard drive and/or indeed change to a new hobby like running marathons or throwing rocks at squirrels.

No new factions? Meh. EL is one of the best games of 2014, but this expansion also doesn't look that appealing to me.
