There's a very sweet run to be had in Polaris space.

But maybe that's a bit out of your range.

Next time I play I'm definitely not going to spend quite as much time hanging around Fed space. I'll try the Auroran or Polaris campaign; the Vell-os one irritates me with its restrictions.

Polaris is damned nice.. I have a Zephyr in my sixth game now, which is about the size of a Starbridge, right? I just took down two pirate capital ships - a Pirate Starbridge and a Manticore. That's without assistance from hired people or a fleet, all by myself! And I can CLOAK!

I actually managed to capture the starbridge, but I kinda destroyed the manticore.. whoops. I doubt I could have captured it anyway. :D

I went by the Rebel II port and picked up some marines though, I want to capture more pirate ships. I'm mainly picking on the pirates because in joining Polaris, you kind of have to piss off the Freds. Killing pirates makes the Freds happy.

Anyway, I just snagged myself a Pirate Enterprise to go with my Pirate Starbridge.. w00t! I would have had another Pirate Starbridge as well, but a Pirate Fleet was coming and I didn't want them taking out my new Pirate Enterprise which was pretty shot up when I disabled it.

I work and I work with my little heavy shuttle to get a Terrapin, and then I end up having to run away from fed space because of teh damn vell os thing. That is evil with a slow ass terrapin.

I still haven't seen anything worth $30 :|

I'd recommend getting a decent craft that can run away then. The Valkyrie and Argosy are two excellent craft to get you away from those evil Freds and in to Polaris space as soon as Mu'Randa tells you to go that way.

Polaris is *excellent* for a trader, though. You can get a sprite class freighter with 500 holds for 700k, I think. The Cambrian with 3.5k holds is only 2.5M credits. There are also routes in Polaris space, like the Tre'pirana equipment route, which can net good profit without even leaving the system.

As for why it's worth $30, there's quite a few things the full version opens up. More storylines being a big one. The ability to use plugins, of which there are quite a few good ones, is nice. Really, the biggest reason for me is that capturing ships is in the full version. Take my current fleet now after kicking a lot of pirate ass..

  • 3 Pirate Enterprises - Heavily Modified
    • Armament: 4 User modified Ionic Particle Cannons (331), 3 Quad Light Blaster Turrets (133), 2 EMP Torpedo Tubes (175) + 4 EMP Torpedos (176)
      Outfits: 1 Pirate Jammer (248)
  • 1 Rebel Starbridge - Class E
    • Armament: 2 Medium Blasters, 2 Quad Light Blaster Turrets, 3 200mm Fixed Railguns, 2 Wraith Cannons + 20 ammo, 3 Hellhound Missile Launchers + 30 ammo
  • 1 Pirate Starbridge - Class D
    • Armament: 2 Ionic Particle Cannons (148), 2 Light Blasters (128), 1 EMP Torpedo Tube (175) + 3 EMP Torpedos (176), 1 Hellhound Missile Launcher (435) + 5 Hellhound Missiles (436)
      Outfits: 1 Pirate Jammer (248)

There's not much I can't take on with that fleet right now. The only thing that gives me trouble are military carriers like the Auroran or Fred carriers, and they're supposed to be able to put up fights. In pirate space, I can clear out re-enforcement fleets with no trouble and make a living by harvesting the disabled pirates for cargo and credits. Then I'll board their ship, capture it, and sell it at the nearest shipyard.

Well right now my choice to spend money is a little bias. Games I usually get make me want to spend teh $30-50 that I don't have. Maybe next month after I pay off my credit card bill coming in a couple weeks so it goes on teh bill I get september.

Saint,

wait until you get the Scarab. Federationl carriers become mere pests.

Fuck the Scarab. I keep telling him to buy a Raven, but he's too attached to that damn fire engine Zephyr of his.

I'm waiting for the Raven to become available myself. Though my Scarab is nice.

When does the Multi-Jump Organ show up at the outfitters? The (any Polaris port) to Earth run has got to be among the most annoying ever, second only to the Mu'Hara-to-Vellos trip, and I'd like to start skipping some of these jumps.

EDIT: Ignore what I said about the Raven. After completing my current mission I just got access to it. Given my luck, it'll be one more mission before I get the MJO.

The Raven has nice shields and armor, but its laser is TERRIBLE, since it starts a few pixels in front of the ship.

That's what turrets are for. Capacitor Pulse Lasers, while hard as hell to target, rip through shields and armor with the greatest of ease. Just by hanging around the pirate space station and poaching incoming traffic I was able to capture six Pirate Starbridges with minimum effort.

Besides, it comes loaded with the multitorpedo, which is possibly the greatest warhead I've ever used in the game.

Yeah, but with a max of 40 ammo...

well, it makes more than one or two battles in fed space annoying.

Mars or Europa sells LuxGoods cheaper than Earth. You really don't have to leave the system to make money. There's a good route from Sol to New Ireland involving LuxGoods and MedSupplies as well.

If you had the registered version, I'd suggest that you head up to the area between Schaell and Konia to hunt pirates, which is what I've been doing in my latest attempt through a campaign. One of the main reasons I have Pirate Enterprises is so I can haul pirated cargo which I pirate from pirates. A manticore can bring in 500k credits, while I raid other pirate enterprises for their cargo and sell it at Rebel I.

Ok, this does it. This is the fifth assault i get from the Auroran Drop Bear. Not even a frickin' repelant works. I've just been laughed at by the nurse, and lost about 9000 in injury treatment. W T H ? ? ?

Id wager something fishy is going on...

Can't speak with authority here, but I'd bet your repellant is half the problem. Didn't you notice all the merchants snickering?

Telling the Vell os guy to piss off, then running to the nearest Auroran bar will get you in to a nice campaign.

yah true but in the Polaris storyline you become friends with that guy and you get friendly with the Rebellion and they got godly cruisers with Polaris Tech

I also own the Rimshot, Altair and Rautherion systems

No, escorts rock. In my latest game, I had three Class D Pirate Starbridges, two Pirate Enterprises and a Class IV Pirate Valkyrie. With all the firepower, nothing could stand before me and survive.

Ships with cargo capacity in the thousands is sick... I get like a million per minute with my Cambrian. I'm gonna make more money than I will ever need this way.
