Oli is so going to be my fantasy character name. At least Eurogamer is good for something.

I recall BoS power armour being pale green and white/silver

I also remeber them more seamless and bulkier.

Why couldn't they go with, say, the already existing depictions of power armour:

Which looks a hell of a lot cooler.

You think bulky-walk animations grow on trees son? You think holstered weapons not clipping through a markedly larger mesh just HAPPENS?

Article seemed as devoid of evidence as the pro-Bethsoft ones. Can't really take it much more seriously, either (apart from the wonky animations, which Bethsoft have a reputation for).

I still remember reading the review of Fallout in a Danish pc gaming magazine (yes the paper kind) back in the day. It was a 1 A4 page review and it scored 6/10 and it was in no way a spectacular review, or it wouldn't have been if it hadn't been for the little yellow box where another reviewer gave his short opinion and gave it a 8/10. Not completely comparable, but this type of split-review is exactly what Fallout 3 is going to need. Because no matter how you put it, it's bound to get a two-way reception since Bethesda hasn't staid true (or concervative if you will) enough to the original formula to be able to please the die hard Fallout fans.

Which leads me to this Eurogamer article, and it's spot on if you ask me. Fallout 3 doesn't really justify the negativity on it's own but then it's not on it's own it's a sequel, something which evokes a long list of expectations and requirements to fans of the originals. I think I would've actually liked the "Fallout 3" concept if Bethesda had build it on their own post-apoc world instead and I do suppose it's a little silly for me to end up dislking it simply because of the naming. :P But that's exactly how things are.

Gametrailer's said something along the lines that 'Fallout 3 is bringing the classical gameplay of the originals'

Nitpicking much?
Sure, why not?

The power armor is 90% the exact same thing.
The helmets are, but the bodies barely resemble the original at all. They look like an army of Star Wars characters in that picture. They certainly will get people's attention in the stores, though.

These new power armors look like a bunch of plates strapped on. Power armors from FO movies(especially Bortherhood of Steel) were like a second skin, easily flowing in to the movements and enhancing them.

to be fair, the original fo armour designs appears to have been more inspired by the mad max kinda thing than 1950s ish art deco themes that were maybe more appropriate to other aspects o' the game. the new power armour actually looks more appropriate to Gromnir given the pip boy and giant irradiated insects and other 1950s era inspired stuff.

HA! Good Fun!

So you gotta give Beth a credit for turning a good intelligent franchise into the mass market pop-corn one-timer for this season with the shit like those models.

Also now I understand why people become terrorists.

Using that pulp 50's comic book feel was the point. It was part of the FO world, and that style of armor just meshed with the game world.

find a 1950s comic book in which they gots stuff that looks like power armour o' fo.

on the other hand, the current stuff DOES remind one of art deco inspired stuff that were popular 'from 20s on through 60s. think o' Metropolis as a point o' reference. pulpy sci-fi mags and b- movies o' the 50s were equal inspiration... original fo power armour looks like it were more likely to have come out of The Day The Earth Stood Still or Road Warrior?

HA! Good Fun!

The only thing 'road warrior' about the original power armor is when some tribal or raider wears only the helmet, fastened with leather straps. The new power armor may well look more like sci-fi from 1950's, but that isn't Fallout. Fallout starts out with a non-sci-fi 1950's style and then go off in a new direction that makes the crazy sci-fi elements look more utilitarian than fantastic. Road warrior is more about taking tech that already exists and salvaging as much of it as possible. That's not really sci-fi, is it?

The cheap, cheating bastards. Or did they make the armor thinner so that it'll be easier for them to shove those lame statues up their asses? One can only hope.

The more I read the more I am convinced to play this game with mods (assuming there is a toolset like Oblivion). I waited 10 months before I got oblivion and the mods like FCOM made the game worth playing. If fallout gets the same treatment it will be loads of fun. I can tell already that I won't like vanilla.
