I've followed this series for a long time, each game in the series is really just a new version re-packaged. I remember playing either the very first or second iteration many years ago and it felt undercooked, but the latest game is actually really good. In fact, I'd say I've had more fun with this than Elite Dangerous.

+ Dynamic economy for traders.
+ A background war simulation with three factions. Systems can be captured and defended.
+ Enter and land on any planet, even atmospheric ones.
+ Seamless universe. Every object in space you can see, you can go there. No loading screens.
+ Fully functional VR
+ Walk on planets with mech, but you must find it first.
+ Fly anywhere using jumpgates, jump drives, or just inertia.
+ Realistic flight model.
+ Space or planetary mining, fuel harvesting, tractor beam.
+ Build your own spaceship with components and appearance using custom parts.
+ Build your colony on planets.
+ Large variety of missions, from collecting wildlife sample, to racing.
+ Huge galaxy to explore. What you see on your map is not even a fraction of what you can find by simply exploring.
+ Local hosted or client/server multiplayer.

I've played for dozens of hours and still feel like I've only scratched the surface. I have played mainly as a miner and trader, and haven't done much combat. It does get interesting when the enemy faction takes over a trade route you were using.

Make the Codex Great Again!
I played the prequel, Mercenaries I believe. I love the atmosphere and ambience, the flight model, the fact that NPCs have their own schedules... I just wish there was more to do, like more interactions between NPCs and even factions (eg Space Rangers). Heard Legacy is more of the same, with some new features?

i don't know the reason behind, but pirates never gave a fuck about this. only two or three iterations ago i managed to find an extended demo. i didn't like it, i can't tell you details now, it's been so long, but everything was so damn generic and the game as a whole felt like its code was one keystroke away to crumble, as if its main goal was just not to crash.

It is one of the few space sims with a war simulation going on (like Space Rangers), even though verbal interaction is pretty basic.

It has a lot of interesting systems, and much of them are vaguely described, even in the manual. So you have to really just play it to discover what it has to offer. For example, there are a ton of hidden things to find, which you can only discover if you take the time to go off the beaten path and explore.

I think the game code is locked down pretty tight, which is the reason i think it hasn't been cracked, or even modded for that matter. I've been searching for a long time for hacks or cheats to unlock game features, and they just don't exist as far as I can find.

Game hasn't ever crashed on me before so it does run pretty stable.

As for being generic, yeah, aren't they all?
