Detectable alignment is a shortcut. With it, NPCs don't need to have separate (and possibly distinct) memories about your actions. The designers don't have to bother about tracking what NPC X knows about you. The possibility of feigning is lost (except for moments hardwired in the script).

I don't like detectable alignment (but I don't know if the full alternative is feasible).

That's muddling up a couple of different concepts.

Alignment and reputation aren't quite the same thing. If something a player does wouldn't be common knowledge, then just don't adjust the reputation score. No extra difficulty there -- it actually saves you work, since to do alignment properly you have to adjust for everything.

Doing individual reactions to your actions is a bit of work. Conceptually, it's pretty clear. Each NPC faction has its own reputation track, adjusted as appropriate.

The question is, what kind of content it will be?
More enemies, weapons and other misc stuff?
Or something actually matters?
Now think what would can done more easily... and what they'll do, having that in mind.
I hope for the better... but expect the worst.

Wow! A third more content! This is going to be the greatest RPG ever released on the PC, which means the greatest RPG ever! When this gets done, people are going to be like, Fall-what? Or, Tormenting who? Mark my words!!!!

A THIRD more content, Yeah!

I think they mentioned a new section of the "world" to explore. Plus a dragon. I'm not holding out for anything that will fundamentally change/improve the gameplay or story.

@Greatatlantic: don't laugh! I'm sure we'll see some more crappy hype from Overhype(tm) along those lines

I love estimates that tell you there's "a third" more content. 133% as much MB on your hard drive, or the world map is 133% times as large, or what?

Quote from the linked article:
a whole new land, a dragon, weapons, spells, and story. Combat is improved. The world and the people in it look better than ever, with a shiny new coat bristling with high-resolution textures.

I might have to eat my words, maybe they have made some "fundamental improvements"; at least as far as combat and story.
I will be interested to see just how much things are uber-fied.

I bet there are a few fucked off Xbox owners out there

I don't believe the NPCs could detect your alignment. Their reactions to you were based on your configuration of hair & clothing (individual articles would either add to or subtract from your "Beauty" & "Scariness" attributes), and they'd also cheer you on depending upon your level of "renown," which is sort of like a reputation meter that builds as you kill enemies and do quests.

It's still not going to be anywhere near the game they were hyping up to us for years. Until they make that game, they can go fuck themselves.

This is just an attempt to hype it up again after the bad news of the original release got out. It's also a slap in the face to the XBox owners who will feel they paid for a beta version. A third extra of shit is still just a pile of shit. I don't need second helpings of it.

I was one of those individuals that bought Fable.

I read all of the reviews saying how it didnt live up to any of its promises, i had previously bought black and white so i had first hand experiance of what i like to call "Molywank", one of the worst perpetrators of this is PC Zone magazine.

Yet i bought it, why?

Because i had just finished Beyond Good and Evil and my interest in lighthearted adventure games was rekindled.

I thought it was ok, yes it was short, yes it was shallow and yes it could have done with a deeper storyline, but i had fun and thats all that matters at the end of the day.

And now they go and add a shitload of extra stuff for the pc version.

What a nice little kick in the nuts, the only reason i didnt wait was becuase it was pretty much stated that it would never come to pc, all i can say is thank god i didnt buy the xbox solely for Fable, if i did i would probably be pulling a Mcveigh on lionhead studios.

What a pack of Fuckers.

Edit: Ohh and i just took a look at the Fable forums, i saw "A Message From Peter", i cant believe some of the sychopantic responses he got.

"Ohh yes Peter, thank you Peter, i know i was complaining but please forgive my lack of faith Peter, indeed Peter, what you say is correct, war is peace, hate is love."

Then again maybe if were lucky we might earn the right to buy what we should have gotten in the first place in the form of an expansion pack, yay!

It's nice that they acknowledge just how bad the game turned out to be, but I doubt that the wreck is salvageable (they don't, after all, have an entirely clear development clock to start all over and fix everything).

I don't know, maybe it's the beer or maybe it's me, but I'm kind of tired with people complaining about Black and White: I liked that game, and I liked it a lot. I don't see why so many people critisize it?

BTW, Shag-what's-it, I've drank a lot and you don't see me typing poorly. P33R MY L33T G4@m3R SKILLZ!!!

Haha, yep. I like to "drink 'n' type" quite a bit as well, and usually I still take pains to type correctly (read: go back and fix cock-ups)

But last night I was so smashed I guess I didn't give a fuck. So many mistakes, so few cares.
Pity about the after-affects.

I'm also one of those people that thought Black and White was a bit of okay. I think the issue with a lot of other people was that it promised the world and didn't deliver. Rack one more disappointment up for the hype machine I guess.

Well, the problem with B&W was that people are too picky and cannot be satisfied fully.
And I'm not talking about players, in fact. I'm taking about damn ingame people!
I was trying to be a good God... God, that was such a pain in the arse! "Food!" "We want food!" "We DEMAND food!" "Homes!" "Offspring!" (like they cannot fuck without my expiisit permission, doh!).
Those cries still ring in my ears when I wake up in cold sweat.
The game required constant micro-management, which was funny at first... but grew really annoying afterwards.
Well, perhaps it's just my orgranization skills sucked... but eventially I got bored of working as a load-lifter. I'm a God, not a guy who carries grain&wood around!
That's why in most people who played B&W got tired of it eventially. They wanted a God simulator... and ended up with a simulator of a load-lifter.

B&W was a sham from the start. Peter is an Abomination Unto Nuggan.
