Again, this has nothing to do with tolerance violence, nudity or similar content. It is a political and historical issue. Similar to sensitivity of the portrayal of Japan/Japanese military crimes during WW2. DarkUnderlord got it right in his first post, I'm not sure why everyone started mentioning Japanese porn since then, it has nothing to do with the topic.

So if the Japanese made Fallout 3 :)!:) it would be ok to include nukes then? As others have mentioned, the Japs don't actually seem to mind plots revolving around WMDs in homegrown media.

Where's our sensitivity on display in COD: World at War where we can bayonet Japs up close and personal in the back and neck?

Have the Japs actually complained about that questline in Fallout 3? Why are we (Americanos...fuck yeah!) putting words in their mouths or making decisions on their part for them then?

WMD are not "nukes", Japan tends to avoid the use of the word "nuclear weapons" ... for example, in The Super Dimension Fortress Macross instead of using nuclear weapon they used "reaction weapons", same shit ... different name and that was in 1983.

Its just goes to weapons, in the same show the VF-1 Valkyrie variable fighter was powered by thermonuclear turbine engines.

Granted it have gone away and many newer series are not afraid to use then but still, its somewhat of a taboo.

Are other games like Starcraft (Nukrear Raunch detected!) or even historical ones like Civ IV or Rise of Nations where you can actually nuke accurately named Japanese cities censored there also?

Considering the questline in question and Fallout 3 doesn't reference anything remotely Japanese...I don't get it.

I don't know why some of the Codex goobers are acting like this kind of stuff doesn't happen here and go on with the bu-bu-bu Jewpan! stuff.

Same thing happened with GTA4 and planes. A whole Godzilla marathon. A huge chunk of MGS2. Variouse FPS map controversies. Turning Dennis Miller into a retard. All because Boosh shot Tom Cruise missles into some building or other while having gay sex with John Titor. Amerikwans would get prolly get butthurt even now.

"Jap" is racial slur simply because it's used as one. In China saying that someone's mom is a turtle is serious bidness. In the States if your mom was a turtle you'd be the coolest kid on the block.

Well ... me neither, the "Nuclear Taboo" is not a actually enforced law and even it have been disregarded several times by themselves ... I only pointed out it existed (and might still exist), the whole thing seems a overreaction since it always been a form of self censorship.

Since when did you become a fucking liar?

The only game banned or changed for the UK was Manhunt 2.

Eh? Weren't children removed from Fallout 2 in the UK?

Pre-emptively, AFAIK the BBFC or whoever rated games back then didn't reject Fallout 2 because it had children in.

The only games that have been refused classification here were Carmageddon, a decision which was later reversed, and Manhunt 2, which was reversed also.

UK? There are numerous mods that do it TOO, and I'm about to install one myself. Because amount of 'blood and corpses' is FUCKING RIDICULOUS, word 'goreporn' comes to mind.

I'd say especially the amount of corpses hanging around everywhere. Constant fresh torture and rotting corpses on display seems to be the melody.

I'd wager there are considerably more corpses haging around in the gameworld than there are NPC.

because that's what people in the 50s thought nuclear bombs looked like. honestly there's so much to criticize in FO3 that that seems pretty nitpicky.

Even if someone explained that how it is, even the nuke in F1 was like that.

oh, come on, you talk about a country that constantly releases loads of VERY explicit tentacle porn which often includes the posterior ultra gory murder of the girl after abusing her for half an hour, i remember a matrix like anime where ppl that got killed in the matrix had their heads explode like a god damn balloon showering blood and brain matter everywhere, i also remember Devilman Amon (go check youtube or something), the sickest non pornographic shit ive ever watched, and just one word: bukkake.

and you tell me they cant handle a little nuke in a game or even the word nuclear ?

Again isn't it Bethesda who's preempted it not Japan? American games have a lot of violence but if you showed a female avatar with exposed tits highjack a plane and smash it into a building someone might have a problem with that. There's also a difference between what goes on internally in a country and what goes on outside it. If an American citizen made a criticism of the country it might be viewed an entirely different way if someone from say France made the same comment.

What goes on "porn" doesn't mean anything. Look at all the horrifying poop and furry shit from Germany (see Jasede). But no swastikas and blood.

There's lots of nuclear stuff in Japanese games. It's the central theme in Metal Gear after all. This is just Bethesda being retarded most likely just like the African American option under race but not for the other races. Like no one else is an American?

It's not like any Japs will buy the game. Just imagine what japanese fallout fans would look like, it would cause the world to implode.

I think they just recycled the necromancer caves from Oblivion. It's completely silly.

That is what the first nuke looked like. Why is a US bomb lying on US soil? Accidents happen.

Apparently the Japanese are still sensitive over that whole "We nuked their ass in World War 2 after trying to take over the world" thing,

Aww, come on now. The Japanese imperialists didn't want to take over the world. They only wanted to take over Asia, and turns its population into agricultural/sex slaves. Not the same thing at all.

I do think its a bit rude to use the word "Jap" in an official site news item, however.

I just thought I should point something out to some of you who might not realize it. "Jap" is considered pejorative in Japan. You may as well say "All those niggers over in Africa...". I don't have any particular problem if you want to use such terms, but I suspect that some of you wouldn't be using it if you were aware of that. Of course they don't seem to mind calling us "gaijin", which many foreigners in Japan find offensive, so... Nihonjin can be pretty racist themselves. But the point remains. It makes you look like a certain kind of person when you use terms like that. I realize that you probably don't mean it that way. The Japanese say the same thing about using "gaijin" instead of the more polite "gaikokujin". They think we are just being too sensitive.
