Ah DarkUnderlord, you wonderful wonderful man. You keep quiet about your Fallout mod, try not to hype it, and only make a major announcement when you have a substantial amount of the game to offer.

This puts you leagues ahead of many amateur and indie game devs, dare I say.

I lack the wit to put something hilarious here
Yea, I like this method much more. I hate mods that think they are full-blown published games, who even have "Community Management" spot on their team.

Another good example is the HL2 mod Neotokyo. They've been totally quiet for two years, everyone thinks they are dead and then suddenly a huge media release and an announcement that the game is almost ready.

Anyway, if the demo is coming out now, any ideas when the final game will be out? Another year or two?

Oh, and :salute: to DU and his team.

And now DU will release a buggy beta of this game that will delete your pr0n and format all your hard drives, but after 6 months we'll be able to expect the Enhanced Edition.

This will be the ultimate vengeance of the Bitcher.

Hey, that's great news! I hadn't checked out their website for a while.

I wouldn't say "substantial amount of the game". There is an aspect of "we've been around for eight years or so now so isn't it about damn time we released something?". All credit for this should also go to the two scripters who've been working their nuts off to make it happen.

Anyway, I'm just going to keep quiet until it's actually out and people have played it.

We do after all, have to actually make the demo work first. :D

I would never announce any indie project I might one day start unless it is at least 90% complete. That is a nearly foolproof way to avoid it becoming vaporware, no matter how some feedback here and there would be welcome. Again, I would only do something like that for my own enjoyment, and not to please demographics.

Again, how far are you? Does the demo means, that you got only the demo done and the rest is reserved for the next 8 years?

I'm inclined to agree. However the hope was we'd attract some good scripters and get it done. In reality there's not that much to do - it just has to be done and that's been the problem through-out the entire project's history. We had a good core group of people working out quests and making maps but lacked decent scripters (more importantly with the available time) to actually turn it into reality until a few months ago.

The demo is only one town. With 13 towns planned, logic would dictate that the entire project will take another 96 years.

There has been some discussion about whether we open the whole project up to the public and try a different approach but eh. The demo could turn out to be nothing more than FMF's last hurrah but we'll see what happens.

I wanted to simply write "ROFL" but then I thought "1 picture is worth more then 1000 words" and went google. Not nearly satisfied with anything the first 2 pages turned up I suggest you, the reader, imagine the most "ROFL" picture you can.

I suspect the largest delay factor with projects based on Fallout 1/2 engine is the fact that scripting starts to fall apart once you reach 2-3 move depth in choice & consequence.

Once that happens, I suppose, keeping track of every potential possibility becomes an epic pain in the ass.
