I have no idea, definitely not any common German fantasy creature. Must be something specific to the game.

Anyone who hasn't played Fate and complains about the lack of blobbers should watch this excellent video review:

If you think about it, it is completely incredible:
- Possibly the largest blobber world to this day
- Visible and moving NPCs, influenced by weather and day-night-cycle
- 4 Partys with up to 7 NPCs (almost all NPCs can join), party-splitting is necessary for solving puzzles
- 70 hours of playtime with a cheated party and a walkthough

And all created by a single guy and shipped on two floppies...

Ahh, Fate. One of the best RPGs of all time. I still have a massive green lever arch file filled with notes and hand-drawn maps of this game. It took me several years to finish back then and it was one of the greatest experiences in my gaming history. This should be a must play for everyone, especially on the codex. It's that good.

By ged, I just spent until well past my bed time trying to figure out how to get this game running on UAE, even with the image guide from the OP. I feel like a nitwit. However I did manage it, then go blown up by a sorcerous trying to get her to join my party. Which was awesome, not knocking it.

Problem with Fate is the copy protection. Far into the game it will prompt you for passages from the manual. If you exit, or type in the wrong answer, on the third or fourth prompt your save becomes useless. I am still searching for scans of the English manual. Right now all I can find is the English manual in text. May or may not be good enough but I am getting ready to play it again.
