Turn 3
Lex begins the attack on the remaining Genoan soldiers, starting with Kinbois.
Kinbois drops his Hand Axe.
Bosses often drop weapons and items when killed. The unit that finished them receives the item, so setting up kills for the unit you desire to get the drop is an often used tactic. Or else we're stuck dealing with the Pawn Shop jew.
The Hand Axe is nice. Gives Lex a ranged option.
The remaining enemies have no way of defending themselves so we're just cutting them down.
Sigurd will head west around this forest to save Aideen. Most of our troops will continue toward Genoa where they'll deal with the defenders there.
Good start.
The last Hunter misses the attack on Fin, we've beat back Genoa without taking any damage.
Fin moves just North-West of Genoa castle, equips his Javelin.
He's within range of these three Axe Fighers, and should be able to severely wound them.
The last Hunter is killed.
and our units are stacked up outside of enemy range, waiting.
Sigurd will be able to reach Aideen on the next turn. Midir goes with him because we don't really need him in the other group.
Fin lands two Javelin throws each, so they're at 8HP.
The female sword fighter begins to move, triggered by our units entering the Axe Fighter's range.
She moves around the East side of the Castle, which is kind of... strange. We need her to do this- because if she comes around the West side this becomes one huge mess- but it isn't guaranteed. Figured out through trial and error that putting someone on this exact tile ensures she will come around this way.
We'll deal with her soon.
Sigurd has finally reached Aideen, the reason we're fighting in the first place.
Oh, I’m terribly sorry to bring all of you from Chalphy into this.
No worries there. Everyone will just be glad to know that you’re alright. We have things under control here, Aideen. Why don’t you head on back to Grandbell?
No, I’m staying. There’s bound to be more injuries further along. I want to help others in the service of the Lord.
Aideen… Didn’t you leave the knighthood to become a nun? I think it suits you perfectly. I’d do well to learn a thing or two from you myself.
Actually, the sole reason I joined the nunnery is… Well, it’s to aid the chances of finding my sister.
You must mean Briggid. She’s been missing since your childhood, hasn’t she… You still believe you can find her, do you?
That’s correct. And when I do, I must give the Holy Bow Ichival to her!
It isn't clear why Sigurd doesn't just pull out of Verdane after this.
Anyway, about time we reviewed Aideen and Dew.
There isn't much to review. Her Luck growth is quite high, Magic growth is low and Strength growth is a bit high for a healer. Good bases. (I'm going to stop saying that. Everyone has good bases in Genealogy.)
The Relieve staff she joins with is about twice as powerful as the Live staff Ethlin carries.
A Priest, Aideen is restricted to B rank Staves. No special skills.
Aideen is a descendant of Ulir, the Bowman, but as a Priest she doesn't gain any increased weapon levels from that.
So... yeah. Aideen is a healer. Not much to say. She heals better than Ethlin, and can wield higher level Staves than her, so she's useful.
The thing that's really special about Aideen is that she is the first single female to join the Army. Eventually we want Aideen to fall in love with someone. I've already picked out the guy.
It's not Dew.
Low Strength and Defense, can't really hurt people. His growth rates in all areas except HP are excellent.
Dew is a Thief, and has the Steal, Sunlight Sword, and Bargain Skills. He also joins with a lot of money.
Steal allows Dew to take the gold of any enemy he successfully attacks. Usually this isn't much- about 1000-2000 gold- but some enemies- specifically Mountain Thieves- carry more. Dew can also give gold to other units.
Sunlight Sword allows Dew to recover HP by dealing damage, but he doesn't do much damage so it isn't very useful, at least not now.
Bargain means that Dew pays half as much for all goods and services. This basically means that he can swap items around without ever losing money.
Dew is useful for his utility. He'll keep our units supplied with gold, but we'll have to protect him. If we want to develop him he'll need to be hand-fed kills, as he sucks at arena fighting.
I move Dew over to a Wood tile next to Sigurd, to keep the selected barbarian from hopping over and attacking Aideen. Dew won't be attacked as his Evade is so high they consider it a waste.
Most of these guys should kill themselves on Sigurd.
He has attacked our village on numerous occasions. It's been dreadful. And things had been so peaceful under the Reign of King Bantou... Anyway, we're all so glad that you've come!
4000 gold to Azel
We begin finishing off the Axe Fighters that Fin weakened.
I'm going to send most of the units straight past Genoa. Cuan and Ethlin should be enough to take out the boss defending the Castle.
Cuan is waiting just outside the sword fighter's attack range. Can't begin the assault with her so nearby.
Alec kills the last one.
I move him up North a bit, just inside the sword fighter's attack range to lure her away from Genoa.
On the enemy phase, barbarians destroy themselves.
The barbarians attack with a 0% chance to hit because they don't factor in certain Evasion bonuses when selecting targets- like Leadership.
Only two remain, one is severely wounded.
Feel my Meteor Sword!
Meteor Sword is a special skill that Aira has, and it's the reason we're using Alec for this. Alec's Nihil keeps this very deadly skill from triggering.
Both combatants have Pursuit, but neither side strikes twice as their attackSpeed is equal. Caused by very lucky Level-Ups from Alec, it means we don't have to worry about them killing each other here.
Which is good, because we want to keep Aira alive.
Sigurd heads for Genoa after.
Aideen's Theme
My humblest apologies for all you had to go through!
Midir, I’m just happy that you’re not hurt. Let’s put this all behind us. You did your very best, and that’s all I could ever ask for. Do me a favour, Midir, and stay with Sir Sigurd’s troops.
I’d be more than happy to. I am greatly indebted to him for rescuing Jungby Castle for us, and you as well!
Midir is the guy I'm going to try and pair Aideen with. Pairing units up is done mostly through having units spend their turns next to each other, but also through conversations like these. Most male/female conversations push the two closer to falling in love.
We want these two to fall in love ASAP. They have a high initial attraction to each other, and this conversation helps a lot, but it needs to happen as soon as possible. I actually manage to mess this up on this playthrough and it ends up hurting me later.
Cuan is going to try and take a bit of health off the generic Warrior guarding Genoa, so Sigurd can go ahead and seize on the next turn.
Miss. Takes a counterattack.
Alec moves onto the Wood tile here. We want Aira to continue to attack him while keeping her away from the entrance to Genoa.
On the enemy phase, the Captain dodges another of Cuan's attacks.
Aira attacks Alec. She won't survive another round of combat.
On our turn, Cuan attacks, and the Lover Critical map animation plays.
Cuan one-shots the generic Warrior.
He'll move to assist in the attack on Marpha now.
Turn 7
…Aren’t you Kinbois’ men?
We took care of Kinbois. You’re safe with us.
Really? Then Aira doesn’t have to fight anymore! They’re makin’ my auntie fight against her will! Please, you gotta help her!!
That swordfighter out there? I thought something was different about her. I’ll go let her know you’re alright. So what’s your name?
Shanan. I’m… er.. prince of the Kingdom of Isaac.
YOU are the prince of Isaac? You’re serious, aren’t you? I bet you’ve been through a lot. You’re best to stay with our troops for now. Just be patient for the time being. You’ll make it back to your country someday.
Shouldn’t we inform the king of this?
Oifaye, that war has nothing to do with this child. I don’t care where he’s from. We’ll find a way to get him home. For now I just want to keep him safe.
Understood.
