Hmmm, I actually quite liked it. Not a bad teaser at all, you can see they put effort into it, it looks quite polished. And what you can see of the city looks pretty detailed, reminded me of the ultima games.

That's pretty impressive. It looks obscenely polished for an indie title, with plenty of shiny particle effects and such, and the parallax scrolling effect on the cliff top gets me hard in a way I haven't felt since my Amiga days.

It's hard to glean a whole lot from the gameplay, but it looks as though Thomas is more than capable of realising his goals, and as such I'd expect nothing less than a solid turn-based combat foundation, even if the flavour is a little derivative for some.

This game is turn-based, right?

Looks very nice. It definitely reminds me of Arcanum as well.

Yes sir, turn based and very old school playwise. I have been following it for some time and if you stat based, turn based old school style games I think you will like this one.

I agree that it looks quite impressive for an indy studio with 1 person basically doing most of the game. I have high hopes for this game.

It actually looks better than what I was expecting. I thought it would be more or less like Spidweb's games, with a little bit prettier graphics, but it's a lot better.

I'm looking forward to this one.

Looks pretty decent. Shame they didn't show the interface.

Agreed, I think this game will have alot more options to gameplay as well from what I have seen from the dev in the game's forum. As much as I like the Spiderweb games, I wish they were more choices than everything always ending in combat.

But from looking at the trailer It appears it will look way better than the spiderweb games.

The game definately looks good, I have been following it for a long time as well. The first one is going to be a single character and he has plans for the second to be party based. It is a throw back to old school rpg's so most of you should see it as that, it will not have the "next gen" graphics of big budget games, what it will have is good gameplay and solid fun...

Man, haven't posted on this site in ages.

There are screencaps on the official site, and they show a lot of the panels and such, if that's what you're after.

In fact, I was just looking at the images, and I found this one to be excellent. In particular, years ago I ranted about how I wished for a dialogue system that was a hybrid of Diablo 2 and Baldur's Gate 2. What Eschalon 1 appears to have done is exactly what I was hoping for. The NPCs have a bit more exposition, but you do get branching dialogue. My hope would be that this leads to dialogue where you have branches, but only meaningful ones that unlock a good bit of real information. I do not like having to click "yes," "no," or "continue" for every sentence that is written.

In my opinion, this makes the interactions with NPCs a bit more like reading a novel (especially considering how Eschalon wraps the dialogue in descriptive text about the character or environment). I guess some may not like that. I do.

It's probably a day-one purchase for me.

Well, it is called Eschalon: Book I.
Bad jokes aside, it sure looks pretty enough... here's hoping it's an excellent game, as well.

I could be reading this the wrong way, but it doesn't sound good for replay value (oops, you chose the Axe skill? Too bad, because Swords are much better!):
"The game world does not scale or adjust itself to match anyone's play style, so the ease or difficulty of the game is directly related to how successful you are at developing your character.2"

It won't run for me, it says something about Quicktime not having the right components. I downloaded DivX. This trailer needs to be idiot proof for idiots like me. That means, you shouldn't necessarily have to use another program to run the trailer. The ultimate answer would be to put the trailer on You Tube, the ultimate place for idiocy, plus I am sure you would get a huge amount of coverage... um advertising, Yay!

Might be bad, might be good. Compare playing a Barbarian to playing an Archeologist in Nethack.

It looks good, all in all. I just hope there is more than just dungeon crawling because I'm not much into that.

Still doesn't help. In fact, it will ultimately cause some loss of business. Having to download components scares most people-- because it is not directly associated with the games business, we do not know if divx might contain spyware or other bogies. Quite frankly, I don't particularly like adding small programs to my computer.

The trailer activates quicktime on my machine not Divx which is kind of odd. Quicktime then doesn't show the trailer.

Just download VLC player. Seriously just do it, you'll never have to worry about codecs and stuff like that anymore.

Looks smooth as a baby's bottom. I'm definitely looking forward to it, with an aesthetic like this. It's nice to see great looking 2D games stop being the sole domain of the Japanese.
