It's supposed to come out today, so I'm psyked.

For those who don't know what's new in this expansion, here's a summary:
- War goals - I think Vicky 2 had them too.
- Revamped partisan and Gov't in Exile systems and improved espionage options.
- MOAR DECISIONS
- Improved theatre editor, improved army structure editor, better AI and goddamn multicore CPU support (HEAVAN, just btw)

However Steam seems to show no signs of releasing it anytime soon. No announcement, no pre-loading and no sign of it at all on release day. Best DRM ever!

Downloading it now.

Secretly, I've hoped that they added more releasable nations. I realize it's basically me wanting to larp, but something feels wrong when there's a burma shaped hole in between indochina and india.

Ah, I forgot about that. I have it pre-ordered, but I'll probably wait until I'm done with my current LP to download it.

EU3 is better.

Herp Derp? It's kind of pointless to get uber-competitive over which Paradox game you like the most. They're different flavors of ice cream, but they're all fucking delicious.

HoI3 war is way better than EU3 war. What would be nice is some way to bridge the detailed combat of HoI3 with the empire building and scale of EU3... in space.

I think that out of the four main series of Paradox games, EU is the weakest really. It does a competent job all-around, but Victoria, Hearts of Iron and Crusader Kings are much better because they're more specialised towards some things.

Vicky 1 and 2 are in a league of their own when it comes to economics and trade and demographics management, Hearts of Iron 3 provides the best and most accurate combat ever and is the only one close to simulating an actual arms race, and Crusader Kings transcends the whole playstyle, like a dynasty simulator should.

I really look forward to the release of Magna Mundi, because EU has the potential to really excel at certain things, but as it is, vanilla EU3 is as bland as a good strategy game can get. MMU mod makes it much better, but Ubik hyped up the standalone MM here too much, and now I can't wait.

Ah yeah, I've never played stock EU3, just magna mundi ultimate. I find it amusing when people complain about normal EU3 being hard.

Hopefully all the HoI3 mods update compatibility soon, when I tire of DF I think I'll head back to HoI3 and I might as well restart with the new expansion.

Purchased as soon as I read that it was released in this thread.

Oh, and while I look forward much more to Magna Mundi, a good game is a fucking good game. No sense in starting a pissing contest.

The one thing that can be troublesome about EU3... to play a grand campaign to completion will take all of your game time for months on end. That said, I got an inordinate amount of pleasure taking a 1 province minor to a 20-30 province major over the course of several hundred years. I think it took 100 years before I was even a 2 province. Because of the scale minors are much more rewarding to play than in a game such as HoI where they really don't have much power, and indeed they shouldn't.

So is it a piece of shit and a bitter disappointment devs promised it will be?

Because they said it will have even more historical accuracy aka shitty scripts and limitations

It was indeed Lubeck, but I set out to form the German Republic, didn't quite make it but I was quite the military power on the continent, multiple times able to defeat most of the powers arrayed against me (Russia+France+Spain+England+Sweden), well, white peace anyway. Colonisation is pretty brutally costly in MMU.

HoI is the only series by Paradox that SHOULD include scripted events and situations. Due to the short timelane. No one wants a ww2 game without ww2. And history cant change that much in the scope of the game that events no longer make sense - one side can be simply way more succesful.

And how is more events/decisions ever a bad thing? Sorry Skyway, you is wrong here. Has an expansion to a Paradox game ever made it worse?
