Actually I modelled and textured everything myself from scratch. I also did the animations myself using both keyframe animations and motion capture (recorded with ipi soft and 3 PSeye webcams here in my living room - not my moms basement.) :)

It's all just at the beginning though. Only started with this a year ago and still experimenting and changing a lot.

Implemented a new combat system (not least due to feedback I got from this place) which is using a blend of real time mechanics and round based AP mechanics. Instead of AP's, actions will take a certain time to be performed and hits are calculated by skill / item dependend stats as well as the real time environment when an action is performed (if the character is behind cover for example, or moving fast etc)

In case someone's interested in a WIP video:

Thanks again for some good ideas. :)

Looks kinda nice. Has nice faces, but graphics gamey-enough to not give the creepy uncanny valley vibe of modern games.

Was going to pass on this when i saw the original video, but combat looks like a really interesting take on 3rd person shooter mechanics, so now i'm semi interested.

Couple of things (yeah i know it's a alpha build but still):

Cover system needs refining. There were a few times you had clear los yet were auto blocked because the guy was behind 'cover'.

Have you considered being able to aim shots to different body parts (eg. headshots more damage - lower % to hit etc) because at the moment it seems like your hovering your mouse over a giant hitbox and it'd be nice to have physical aim matter a bit if you're going for an arpg.

So, Braben's Frontier is a classic masterpiece nowadays? It always felt over hyped, hollow and soulless to me, at least the original Elite had fun combat. Who cares if the guy crammed zillion galaxies in one 880kb floppy if none of them had anything interesting and worth exploring.

Oh, and

Yeah, not everything works quite the way I'd like it to yet. Probably need more then two LineCasts to decide line of sight.

I thought about adding different hitzones - they might make it into the final version. Would be nice of manual aim still had some influence on your hit statistics. Definately agree!

Elite was a fun game for its time, but after a while, all I wanted to do was get out of that ship and explore. Someone needs to make that game.
