Anyone got a link to the additions? Their website isn't loading.
So far I've noticed a new ship, a type C ship for each ship except the crystal and new one. Lots of new weapons(including weapons that shoot more rapidly the more they've shot without being disabled) and facilities(including mind control and cloning).

The game also seems quite a bit harder.

I fundamentally do not understand what makes people complain about the RNG in a game that is supposed - by design - to be replayable multiple times by virtue of the RNG's generation of as vastly different games as possible. The whole point of the thing is for the RNG to randomly screw and/or help you at random times.

There's a new race too, and weapons that can charge multiple shots/volleys and then fire in one big burst. There's also a hacking system, which fires a single drone that sticks around for the rest of the battle, and lets you disable the targetted system for a few seconds at will (or partially disable, depends on the system.) I found after upgrades it made for a decent way to capture ships via suffocation. Also, manning unpowered subsystems (doors or sensors) now adds a level to their effectiveness. So having a ton of crew is more useful now.

Yeah I've seen a bunch of new ship upgrades. Too bad I suck so much I can't even beat it on easy.

Welcome to the club. I've tried 5 or 6 times, last boss always beat my sorry ass. Great game, though.

Because it's still infuriating? The RNG in FTL is overkill.

Yeah the RNG really is too much. Spelunky is the perfect example of a roguelike, you can finish the game on every single run but you sure as hell won't. FTL is just unfair, if I have to see more 2 shields, drones and bursts in the first sector I think I'll pop a vein. Or that stupid fucking chance to miss which has to be higher in normal than in easy difficulty. That's the easiest thing ever to mod, make their ships have shitty 10% dodge like mine do.

"What a shame."

Also: I'm having a blast with it, you should be having a blast with it... everybody should have a blast with it. I'm not going to complain because when a game gets so many things right it's not worth winging about what little errors remain. (Like Arcanum and Planescape: Torment)

That's the easiest thing ever to mod, make their ships have shitty 10% dodge like mine do.
Sure, right after they give them 30 points of hull like you have, and focus their weapons on your shields/weapons.

Balance is fine. Some ships are shittier than others, but that's a good thing. If you can't win every time with the fed cruiser B you're doing something horribly wrong.

Objectively speaking I don't see how wasting your time is a good thing. There's balance, and there's having no control over your fate.

Like what? You can rape anything in the first 2 sectors before it can fire, except zoltan ships (which you can simply choose not to fight if they might actually have decent weapons), and your starting crew gives you tons of free shit from all sorts of encounters. Once you milk the first two sectors you'll be so overpowered everything afterwards is a joke.

Just play on easy if you can't handle shit, scrubs.

Enough with the hardcore bro posturing. You're a fucking yiffer who probably takes it up the ass. And you can only 'milk' the first couple of sectors if the RNG grants you with stuff to actually milk.

Well you think Dredmore is a good game so I'm guessing you couldn't find your way out of a paper bag. It's hardly surprising FTL and any real roguelikes are too difficult for you to enjoy.

Note you didn't dispute my accusation. Anyway, your blanket statement that absolutely nothing can stop you from winning with that ship is as moronic as your tough guy posturing.

Seriously, you can do 3 damage to any ship (two if you miss, though the miss rate is like 10-20% at that stage) before it can fire. Which means it can't fire since you blew up it's fucking weapons. So you loot the shit out of the first two sectors and end up with ridiculous shit like teleporters or level 3 shields or enough firepower to destroy later ships before they fire too. That ship makes the game a cakewalk, and if you're losing with it you have only yourself to blame.

Getting achievements handicaps you in various ways and makes shit more difficult, but just plain winning with a good ship is a cakewalk on normal.

All of which is dependent on store inventory and encounters.

What store inventory? You think you're going to reach sector 3 without finding anything but drones and crew? Give me a break. And encounters are either ships or free loot as long as you have the right crew or upgrades.

You could easily beat the game with nothing but the teleporter and your starting shit + scrap for upgrading shields and shit. Anything beyond that is gravy.

I very much doubt you could beat the flagship with only that. Also there are plenty of encounters that are just nothing.

Imo, FTL can be very rng at times, but it depends a lot on the ship you take. FedB is rather stable in terms of bad rolls, but if you play something like stealthB one bad encounter is all it takes.

Actually, it is not very far from it, you can beat the flagship with any bomb launcher + teleporter + cloack. Of course, if you don't like boarding, that's an entirely matter altogether (I don't know whether it is still true).
Of course, if you rely on hammering ships with some of the non crap beam weapons you need to find in store, you will have a very RnG dependant game, but as long as you resolve most encounters with your guys jumping the enemy crew, you din't need too much rare stuff.
In normal, pre extended edition or whatever, it was possible to get nearly 100% success rate with a sensible choice of starting ship (no engi B, no stealth A or B...).
The random events are usually so imbalanced in term of payoff vs risk, that if you don't have the blue option (cheap ones are with imrpoved medbay, repair and security drone IIRC), not taking any risk is the correct choice 95% of the time.
