Great so True route is the only route I can do until the game end upon I can replay and try the other IF routes correct? Also I'm running windows 7 how do I get Rance to install on my computer?

Yes, that's right.

Doesn't applocale works with Windows 7, too?

Not quite. To install applocale without any errors on Vista and Win 7 you need to invoke command line with administrative rights (all programs > accessories > command line - right click on it and pick 'Launch as administrator''. Then you have to find the setup file where you put it e.g. c:\apploc.msi . For the dos illiterate you wil need you write 'cd.. [enter]' twice to return to root directory i.e. c:\)

I have no idea why standard clicking on setup file and running it as administrator does not work :(

Although there is an exception when calling for reinforcements. In the first playthrought you an only ask for 2 Commanders, in the next playthroughts you an ask for 6.

Do you mean reinforcements from the continent? I played true route as the first playthrough two times (on two different computers) and I had all the 6 commanders at the end of it in both instances. The rule is - you have to call the reinforcements before the second phase of the game starts (i.e. the event at the temple occurs).

There's a much easier way. Just disable the UAC and everything is fine. I've Vista and applocale works perfectly, without any fooling around with the command prompt ;)

I always play Rance with applocale, since without applocale all the numbers in the game are messed up. With applocale, everything works flawlessly.
It's also possible to get both the Japanese and the English version on your computer (simply use the real setup first and install it), but in order to start the Japanese version, you definitely have to use applocale. It's also interesting to note that all screenshots/snapshots you take in the Japanese version can't be opened in the original directory, because of a file header error (I assume that it would be possible by using applocale again). The funny thing here: if you simply copypaste the screenshots to another directory, e.g. your desktop, you can view them without any problems.

Yeah, I forgot about that ;) First time I installed applocale was on Vista (don't ask ;) ) and you cannot disable UAC that easily there.

Which was both “negative”. And no, you sick fucks won’t see my woman fucked by that fucking demon.
This is a pretty strange time/place to suddenly develop a sense of modesty.

Whiskey is just being consistent with himself more or less. He did not show Kenshin's nor Kou's rape either. Kurohime though...

Use the the message skip-key (normally "M")

But honestly, you will miss a lot of the fun that way. There are some spectacularly hilarious dialogues in this game.

No, I did show Kenshi... it's just that it was as a bonus. I'm leaving Leila for a time when there really won't be any sex to show.

So I'm asking the hivemind for a little advice, obviously I suck at getting territory as evidenced by the turn counter. On the other hand I have a decent pool of commanders now but I need to increase gold gain so I can beef up some of my armies

Get more territory :smug:

Apart from that you can impose levies on already conquered territories which can get you some good quick cash. Also try to find the treasure called the "Gold Idol" or something, in one of the dungeons- it gives you more money in each turn. Certain events can get you money, like hunting various beasts.

Get more territory

Mandatory: gain satisfaction points as fast as you can in order to get the third fan ASAP.

Get more territory

EDIT:

:looks at map: The next 3 areas you need to get are : Texas , Miko Institute , Himeji.

Texas would've been nice, if he didn't vassalize it ;)
so, do your best on getting kenshin and nanjo asap, the dungeon on their territory gives some gold.
also: do you have people with the (two?) money making skills?

I vassalised Texas because I didn't feel like having to fight them and Yukihime's scenes would bog down the between turns movement even more and I don't want to watch it.

As for third fan what level of satisfaction must I reach before being able to acquire it? This is my first play through by the way.

As for attacking the Useagi clan, their troops horribly maim my army and tips on making them more powerful or at least beefier?

Also that bastard Oda is starting to asspull those gourds

Vassalizing is bad because you lose on tasteful rape and commanders. Well, at least you were spared of the panda business.

The trick with Useagi is to always have Rance in the attacking party, this way you'll avoid fighting with Kenshin. You could leave it for them to declare war on you though (it's very possible to happen if you conquer some more territories) in order to save the action for declaring that war.

IIIRC you get the third fan at 50 satisfaction.

This can help : http://alicesoft.wikia.com/wiki/Sengoku_Rance

Alright hivemind I am failing horribly at this game.
fuuuuuuuuuuuu.png

Yeah...
Should I restart?
Too be honest it's getting to be a pain in the ass with alll the thousand troop armies and it looks a bit too late to horde money and start pumping troop numbers up. On the other hand I got a ton of commanders to wither enemy troop counts away

Ahhh, the beauty of first playthrough :smug:

I've experienced sth like that too :(

You can still win this but there won't be any shame in restarting.

Advice for the future:

Read EVERY dialogue, monologue, EVERYTHING!! It contains crucial pieces of info. For instance, you fucked up this time because you conquered the provinces containing the demon gourds. Turn after the conquest the demon gains it the gourd. 5 gourds broken and the end.

In the next playthrough follow this screen (hit F5 or click system info to open it) :

gourdscreen.jpg

Focus your advancement on the houses not having these. Do not stall though - if you wait for too long you the monkey will steal gourds from random unconquered houses on turns 30, 50, 70 and 90. If you conquer 4 out of five houses the monkey will act on turn 90.

Explore dungeons to lvl up your chars as fast as possible.

Call for reinforcements from the continent when the satisfaction bonus permits. They're awesome.

Teach units Asset Tech and Merchant abilities to boost your economy - the more units the better.

While we are at it, have 2-3 units with Defeated Warrior Hunt skill which also proves handy.

Quickly get the third fan (Satisf 50) and fourth (Satisf 160).

Needless to say raise your satisfaction asap.

Release units you captured from prison - five people per each release. The reason - you get a happy pukkuru item if you do so. Secondly, if your prison is full or almost full, you no longer get a chance to capture units, even important, quest related ones!!

Experiment with unit setup to minimise your casualties i.e. save money.
One of my Win Teams was: Kenshin, Senhime, Rance, Natori, Uruza, Isoroku.
Notice: one. There is more than one solution.

Do not use walkthroughs (too often ;) ) Part of the fun with this game is to lose everything go all :rage: learn your lesson and get RPGCodex :smug:

Enjoy the game for what it is. Don't be completionist. It is totally impossible to avoid combat achieve everything in a single playthrough in Sengoku Rance.

Again READ EVERYTHING!!! Every, seemingly useless piece of info may prove of crucial importance in 10-20 turns.

You are on your own from now on. Fare well bro :bro:

I will take this opportunity to express once again my eternal no homo  for Sengoku Rance.

One of my friends (I converted a couple of them to Rance :smug:) was in a similar situation getting his ass kicked by the demon army. The amazing thing is that after many turns accomplicing nothing, there was a deus-ex-machina event that gave him most of the provinces and left the demon army with only his initial areas.

It seems that the game has a failsafe mechanism so that your fuckups won't stop you from finishing the game. I'm not sure if something like that will happen in this case too, but it could.

This is actually a pretty good idea since it let's you finish the game so you can start a second playthrough with the paths opened.

It will, happened to me also first time around. You get it some time after you blunt the edge of the Demon Army - meaning- you must stop the four faggots rush.

In before popamole bullshit :decline:

I have not encountered that event. I'm in two minds about it. On the one hand it does offer a way for casual players to complete it. On the other it virtually negates all the difficulty that we enjoyed throughout. It should be C&C biatch. You screw up - you pay for your dumbfuckery. I'm quite curious what the whole event would look like though - how the immediate takeover of all those provinces could be justified.

Don't get your panties in a bun. It's quite alright - an event with a picture of a few banners telling you that "after a time you finally manage to win the overhand and push the DA back to the S. Brother provinces".

But the event usually happens when you are so deep in shit you can't see the sunlight. The main consequence - no pussies to fuck that you usually get after the conquest. And believe me, if that event happens you really need those provinces/help.

Too be honest I can't remember what I was wasting time on but I was very dumb with the satisfaction bonuses, but I ended up getting a bunch of alliances that swallowed up tasteful rape opportunities as well as commanders, the house Moutori war was the final crippling blow as they had an average of a thousand troops while I barely had any of that number so it became an expensive attrition war.

Anyway I restarted and decided to be a bit more agressive I have started war with the furfag scum.
furfagrush.png

My reasoning being fur fags are weaker than Tanegashima which will lead to the equally easy hanny kingdom, which after steamrolling them I'll have access to the orange guys that give the sweet ass cav units and the triforce guys and their stuff. Also if I attack Tanegashima he'll send out musket units to the other armies which will suck until I get more units.

Anyway after crushing the goddamn animal people what does the Codex suggest next?

So, sth like in Kenshin's route? I hated that plot device :/ Meh... Though yeah, in the hindsight it might have been a good idea that they introduced it.

To be frank, when every char in unconquered provinces started dying killed by Xavier - it felt awful  Rance had a say too:

Personally, I would go for Miko institute and Tanegashima (in whichever order) first before slaughtering the furries. Reason: furries themselves are fucking hard. You'll need to capure / kill their top furry commanders. Otherwise their Fortress siege will be a RAPE on your troops.

Edit: Remember to ALWAYS be in the state of war with some nation. Strike hard and strike with precisions i.e. Blitzkrieg on everyone. Do not waste any turn. If you play your cards well you will not have to use 'covert action' even once. And yeah, do so if needs be.
