Hm, I pirated GalCiv 2, but wound up deleting it since it didn't run very well on my system. Perhaps I'll purchase a real copy of it when I get around to put together a new system. Perhaps.

If I were them, I would put the serial into the download, encrypting it. That way the updates fuck your game if you apply a patch with the wrong serial, and if you get a dozen downloads of a patch with a certain serial number you just turn the fucker off.

That way if people do pirate, then they have to either do without updates or else get them all from the same people (which would be a pain in the ass as eventually the people ripping it will lose interest or the torrents will die or whatever).

I think the best part of that is that a company that developed a copy protection posted a link to a torrent list of the game as proof copy protection is kewl.
