Game of the Shitty Year 2024

I spent less time playing videogames this year than any other year since like... 1990ish? Combination of shit going on with work/family, consciously reprioritizing reading over vidya, and very few new releases catching my eye.

Only games I played from 2024 so far were:

The Crimson Diamond: loved it, my GOTY, albeit almost by default.

Dungeons of Hinterberg: Liked it okay. Did not finish and probably won't, but not bad at all. Social-sim shit almost always irritates me, but the setting was refreshing and a lot of fun. Combat was a little clunky and puzzles were on the easy side, but the game as a complete package was interesting enough that I wasn't mad to waste 8 hours or so on it.

Skald: Haven't played much, but really liked what I did play. Saving this one for a worktrip or long weekend when the wife and kids are out of time.

Zelda Echoes of Wisdom: Not bad. Didn't finish, but probably will at some point. Doesn't feel very "Zeldaish" since almost every puzzle and combat can be brute-forced, but it's an interesting experiment.

2024 games bought but haven't played at all:

Shadow of the Erdtree

Robocop

Songs of Conquest came out this year and is pretty good, best homm clone since hero's hour (and probably a little better than hero's hour i think)
