Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I would nominate something because I played a lot of good games this year but a lot of them weren't released in 2024 and I'm too lazy to check which ones were.
I honestly don't care about release year, just buy games when they are discounted below 20€ which is usually after their original release year. I rarely even check when a game was released. Often happens that I think I'm playing something new but then I find out it's 4 years old.

Im going to give it to Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic. Easily the best game I've played this year to actually be released even though I've been playing it for years.
But I think its justified considering how shit a year its been for releases.

I think probably the worst year of gaming in decades, I don't think i played a AAA game this year they were terrible, of the indies I played some were ok but I don't think anything reached an 8/10.

2024 was indeed shitty, but quite a few good/great games did manage to come out this year:

Rise of the Golden Idol
Lorelei and the Laser Eyes
Felvidek
Skald
Enigma of Fear
Ace Attorney Investigations Collection
AntonBlast
Intravenous 2
The Hungry Lamb: Traveling in the Late Ming Dynasty

If I were to choose the best among these, I'd probably go with Rise of the Golden Idol, even though it's not as great as its predecessor.

And, well, Caves of Qud 1.0 also came out this year, if that counts. I've also heard Beyond Shadowgate is good, but haven't played it yet.

The Legacy of Kain remasters appear to be decent (haven't played them yet), but I would't include them anyway because they're just, well, remasters.

EDIT:

It's been a fantastic year, actually.
I nominate Chrono Ark, Withering Rooms, Hollowbody and Zephon.
Oh, Chrono Ark is indeed great. Had forgotten about that one.

All the games are shitty so i included remasters- I do think the legacy of kain is better than most of the games released this year.

Does the Factorio expansion count in this lineup? I don't think I've played anything else released this year

SKALD is probably my GoTY with SoTE second if expansions count. I don't think either of those would have made the cut in better years, although SKALD is a great little game and if you're into that sort of thing you should try it if you're on the fence. SoTE isn't the best thing FromSoft has put out but I liked Elden Ring enough that more of it with a bad to mid final boss was still better than most games this year for me.

Most of the other games I was looking forward to had issues that knocked their rating down. For example, DD2 has fun combat but I'm too much of a storyfag to love it due to the mindnumbingly boring main quest (I also hate furries). SMT V probably wasn't objectively bad but absolutely not to my taste and cemented to me that SMT III and IV were exceptions and I just don't like most JRPGs enough to justify buying them at release. Passageway of the Ancients was very fun at the start and the music in some of the levels is fantastic but it got repetitive as it went on, and the sheer number of mostly shitty loot containers to check was overwhelming in some levels (still a great achievement for what I believe is a 4 man studio and I'll give them another shot if they do another game, I just think their formula could do with some refinement).

"Oh no, this year was terrible, there weren't enough things to consoom, woe me"

You retards have decades of games to play, let nature heal for a bit.

Well, you have Factorio: Space Age but it’s just an expansion (although a proper expansion, not just DLC) and Dominions 6, but that too is more of a gradual iteration on the previous title.

Dragon's Dogma II was the sole diversion in what has been a pale and unamusing season.
This.
With Astrobot as some sprinkles. These 2 games alone made it a good year for me.... Much better than 2023 or 2022, IMO.

Edit: Still playing through Stellar Blade, but it's been a hard 7/10 experience. Nothing too remarkable at all so far. It is definitely no Neir: Automata.

Dominions 6, Path of Achra and X-Piratez seem to steal the cake this year. Endless fun with those.

Lorelei & Laser Eyes was very good, as was the Suzerain DLC too.

I'll play the rest of 2024 games in 2027
