I found an interesting interview, made a year ago, with D.W. Bradley, concerning Dungeon Lords, over at RPGamer. Nothing much about it, except this nice excerpt:

Phillip Clayton: What did you like most about making the game?

D.W. Bradley: The best part is completing it so that people can enjoy the results of all our hard work, and we can go home and get some sleep.

I bet he's suffering from insomnia since the game was released.

No, he didn't. It is a well known fact that GameZone writes reviews based on press releases and general information "known" about the game, that's how they always are first to press and generate advertising dollars. A more worthless game site has not existed anywhere, ever.

Edit: And that remark represents MY view, not necessarily the view of GamersHell as a whole.

You remember GameZone's Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel preview? The one that said it was a port of Fallout Tactics for the XBox and used screenshots of Fallout Tactics? That was gold.

The big difference between Derek Smart and D.W. Bradley.

D.W. Bradley makes: Shitty, unplayable, unninovative RP games with furry characters and overhypes them years too early. (The Combat RPG of 2004)

Derek Smart makes: Relatively unplayable (playable if you learn the hundred or so hotkeys), extremely innovative space sims with NO furry characters, and does not hype his products as the 'best thing evar', but rather, as niche products. Gets angry when people attack him based on irrelevent shit.

Derek Smart: 1
D.W. Bradley: 0

I would not go so far as to call Derek Smart's games 'shitty', as it'd be like saying Chess is shitty because you hate Chess. His games do have their, albeit small, fanbase who enjoy his titles. D.W. Bradley in his attempt to cater to the CRPG and action crowd, fails to please anybody.

I actually do have patch 1.1, released earlier this week (and even earlier to the press as Dreamcatcher tries to salvage the shreds of its reputation it thinks might still exist, but doesn't), but as any good journalist I refuse to include it in my assessment of this product, as it was not included in the box as a part of the product.
...and that should be a rule for all reviewers.

Btw, Shag, I thought you were the eternal optimist when it came to Dungeon Lords, have you finally seen the light?
I don't know if I was an "optimist" as such - I was pretty certain it was going to be a bug-fest. The thing was, I guess, I was also pretty certain that I might be one of the very few that liked it on this forum (just as I am with W&W), if it was completed.
However, the sheer affrontery to release a game that is missing such big chunks of content - THAT is what has got to me.
Im certain I could fire it up for a LAN session and play the early parts with a mate, and have a bit of fun. But the prospect of "empty" and shitty parts later on, combined with omitted content that was promised, in plain english, by the developer, mean that there is no way I am spending money on it.

OKay, now that's stretching it a bit.
Despite my massive disappointment in this title, I would much rather play it than a Mr "I'm a Fuckwit" Smart game.
But thats kinda like comparing a squidgy piece of shit that that is too sloppy to maintain shape due to it's lack of solid content, to a rank smelly piece of shit that pollutes the very atmosphere that you breath. It is considerably easier to flush away the evidence of the former

I was playing Ultima 6 a few days ago and I realized why Bradley was considered somewhat of a good developer back in the day. Its because games were EXTREMELY simple compared to today. You could get away with one person doing EVERYTHING - coding, art, story, etc. It was just so much easier to deal with say 1MB or 2MB of total code for a game - instead of 1GB or 2GB.

I understand your point, but Ultima 6 was not a one-man-show. In fact, the Ultima 6 team was probably bigger than the Dungeon Lords team!

I'll give DL a go later this week.

I think the best part is that we're labelled as extreme nay-sayers, as being in denial, adamant, or giving free rides, but then we get people come here and say that games like these have "minor bugs" and are great, even when confronted with people who have verified extensive problems in the game.

If we're in denial, what are these people doing? Hypocrisy is such a bad word... Retardness might be best.
