I don't know why Bethesda keeps selling these DLC's. Not only does it continue to show that they have NO idea what the fallout universe is all about, but it keeps refueling the nerd rage/"why did you buy the fallout IP!!!" debate. If they just let it die quietly they could build up their quota of "We love you Bethesduh!" to properly puff out their chest before releasing their next IP cash cow.

Where Mothership Zeta really falls down is the complete lack of inspiration in the mission design. Generally you can rely on Bethesda to intelligently weave complex scenarios around practically anything, with the key characters each having their own specific agenda. Once you've taken in the situation, it's entirely down to your own moral leanings as to which direction you decide to take any given mission. Never quite knowing who is really the good guy, or the least bad guy has made for some thrilling missions in past Bethesda games (and past DLC), but none of that applies here. At best, you can rope in some characters to help kick arse, but for the most part you're reduced to the most soulless of gameplay tasks - breaking machines by pressing buttons.

With repetitive, largely uninspired corridor combat, and boring, linear and samey mission design, the least you'd hope is that there would be some supplementary side quests to extend the lifespan - but not so. Having delivered five main quests, five side-quests and three unmarked quests in the vast Point Lookout expansion, to follow that up with such a limited DLC pack is curious. Throughout its programme of downloadable releases, it felt like Bethesda was learning and improving its output. But having started poorly with Operation: Anchorage, it concludes Fallout 3 in equally disappointing fashion.

FTW!

They do it because believe it or not people buy this shit.
My boss just came in to tell me about the laptop he bought for his 8 year old son:

- I bought a new laptop this weekend!
- Cool story, bro.
- It's for my son. The laptop has all kinda gigabytes and I paid only 350!
- That's like really awesome, thanks for sharing.
- My son has already downloaded some kinda program to make buildings for Fallout 3.
- That's really ... Wait, what? Fallout 3? Isn't that a game where you blow people heads off? The little shit probably shoudn't be playing it.
- He loves it! He was playing it till 2am last night. (My boss is divorced, sees his kids once a week, as long as they don't bug him, he doesn't bug them). It's so great.
- Yeah, sounds like a great game.
- You should buy it for your kids!
- Uh, sure, good idea.

I'm sure his 8 year old will absolutely LOVE the alien spaceship and samurai armor. Gotta know your audience, folks. That's the real secret.

Hey, nerd, whether you like it or not, Fallout 3 is very popular and is one of the most successful recent games.

Also, what is the Fallout universe all about? Mad Max, Hulk-esque mutants and laser guns? It never had an intricate setting (just take a look at any of the D&D settings and feel the difference). Hell, even the Elder Scrolls setting has more depth. Moreover, the original Fallout devs said it several times: we made the art first, and then made up the story for it. E.g. the Deathclaw was originally a left over from a canceled D&D game. Saying that Fallout has depth that Bethesda "just couldn't understand" is very, very sad.

Eurogamer says it sucks and gives it the "utter shite" award - 5/10.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/fallo ... iew?page=2

"Perhaps the most disappointing factor about Mothership Zeta is how little subtlety is afforded to the details, and the absence of choice in how you go about completing the game's three missions.

More than in possibly any other portion of Fallout, the gameplay is extremely linear. Although certain tasks can be completed in a different order, this apparent freedom is rendered redundant once it dawns on you that the tasks are identical on each occasion. Reduced to a series of trivial button-pressing quests, getting to your objective involves nothing more than trudging from one inconsequential area to the next, wading through the drudge of utterly perfunctory corridor shoot-outs with the same three new enemy types.

The same applies to how you feel about the new enemies. You'll want to believe that Bethesda will do something interesting with this race of alien invaders (because that's exactly what Bethesda is known for these days - making interesting shit. - VD), but it does nothing more than stick to the most obvious archetypes possible. They cannot communicate with humans, so react with ill-advised and unsophisticated aggression. Disappointingly, almost all of these little fiends are felled by a single shot, and any hope of tense firefights with intelligent foes soon fades.

It doesn't help, either, that the new loot in the game isn't particularly inspiring. The Alien Disintegrator energy weapon certain packs a punch, but as a result it renders the Alien Atomizer and Alien Pulverizer rather redundant with its vast clip size and superior damage. As with a lot of loot in the DLC packs to date, you're generally so ridiculously powerful by this point that few weapons can better what you have.

Where Mothership Zeta really falls down is the complete lack of inspiration in the mission design. ....

With repetitive, largely uninspired corridor combat, and boring, linear and samey mission design, the least you'd hope is that there would be some supplementary side quests to extend the lifespan - but not so."

Hey good job Beth by putting in samurai. Crap job though by making thier armor equal to high tech armor.

They should have gone a different route and given samurai Ki Skills, and martial arts skills. (auto trip foe for example, quickdraw technique where they make multiple very fast katana attacks, etc)

They should also have tossed in ninja.

Just... just shut the fuck up... please? :x

Whoa, those Bethesda games sound terrific. That is strangely at odds with my experiences.

meh.

"After unfreezing him, if you murder him and then strip him of his armor/weapons, and then pick up/ throw his body, the game crashes (Xbox 360)"

Obviously no one was going to try that. Nice to see their Q/A department is still doing a brilliant job with ever so simple DLC content.

It seems that Aliens could be responsible for Nuclear War in Fallout 3...

I don't care about aliens causing the war or not. I salute any DLC that gives the rabid wardens of so-called Fallout canon a reality check.

Back in my days 5 was for mediocre games, 1 was for crap like mothershit zeta

Someone HAS to make a LP of this
Driac will. He says "no" now, but after finishing FO3 he will be mentally handicapped enough to play DLCs

I hope someday bethesda buys Arcanum license, makes shitty fps Arcanum 2, and then makes delicious DLCs with army of two-headed cows, blind masters and smurphs.
Just to spite you

You don't understand, it's a very deep setting

also incredibly hard and tactical combat

What's so incredibly absurd about the aliens manipulating things so humans ruin themselves? It's not like it doesn't fit the "50's culture"setting. Being behind it doesn't mean they personally dropped the bombs.
