Star Control 1-3
Star Control 2 is completely free on the interwebs under the name of the Ur-Quan Masters. I was hesistant to buy SC3, SC2 is one of my favourite games but the fan reaction to SC3 is... mixed at best.

I really wasn't all that interested in Star Control 2 or Master of Orion 2 because I already have them and had beaten them. I purchased it as part of a bundle so I could get the other space games in the Santa Goes to Space bundle. That said, Star Control 2 and MoO2 are great games for those that never played them before.

Started M&M 1 and am enjoying it

Started a game of Ultima 3 which is interesting. I had a U3 game going on a C64 emulator, and it appears as though the spawn rate of monsters on the overworld is significantly reduced in the DOS version. Food was never an issue on the C64 version - you could stick to the overworld and gain enough gold to survive. The DOS version forces you either into the dungeons or into towns to slaughter the townsfolk in order to get enough gold not to starve to death.

Thanks for the head's up! I'll try to pick up Crossworlds GOTY if it ever goes on sale for under $10 (maybe next Christmas) since it looks like it also includes Armored Princess. I have KB:TL, but my daughter is playing through it right now, so I can wait.

It looks like it also has all of the expansions.

I don't own and haven't played any of those, but Constructor has me intrigued. I just decided to quit playing Empire Earth. It has 4.5 stars on GOG, but I found it to be boring and the missions to be poorly put together. Diving back into Worlds of Xeen now, with some Slave Maker 3 and FTL on the side.

Constructor IS an intriguing game, with a unique concept, but bear in mind that the rage inducing difficulty might have an adverse effect on your enjoyment. At some point too much shit is going on at once and the game doesn't even come with an active pause system IIRC. Shame, because had it been tested properly it could have turned out a classic.

You gotta be really into those games' style and humor to enjoy them. I liked them a lot, but even then I could see how the frantic pacing would be impossible for some folks to get by.

Also, Mob Rule should win an award for the most misguided cover art of all time. That game is so quirky and bizarre, the super-serious, almost ominous box cover just makes no sense, and it doesn't look like they were trying to be ironic, either.

The Exile Trilogy is better than the Avernum games in my opinion, but Avernum is much better than the new Avadon game from the same company. $8 for all six games is a pretty damn good price considering the amount of game material. And it comes with Blades of Avernum, so you can create your own adventures. Avernum 6 wraps up the series in a way that Exile 3 did not. Overall, it's a fantastic deal and I'll be picking it up.

Hotline: Miami now up for a $5 sale on GOG.com for the next 24 hours. It seems to be a Indie favorite, so I'm interested in what the Codex thinks of it.

Also, Omerta: City of Gangsters is up for pre-order for $34, but who cares? That's a bit much for my blood.

Funny thing about this game, and forgive me if it looks like I am trying to sell you on this game, is that it has actual turn-based combat with Action Points, status effects (not sure how long they last), you can also hide behind various bits of the environment to affect the chance of being hit. I was quite surprised, actually. Didn't think anyone made TB games anymore :P.

That part that concerns me is that it's releasing on the xbox as well, so I'm still cautiously optimistic.

You convinced me. In the last few days I picked up the Avernum series, Eador, and Hotline: Miami. Hearing that the last game was turn-based pretty much sealed the deal.
