Well, if I recall correctly BG series had some memorable NPCs that would cast doubts on the statement above

Good question. I'm not sure when it's going to come out. It's not done yet, but once it is, it still has to be translated to English and then they need a publisher for the States and Europe.

Memorable as in so annoying, irritating, shallow, and plain stupid that you remember and hate them years after you finished the game. NWN has some memorable NPCs too

*ahem*

The BG 'NPCs' [more like RPCs, see Wizardry 8] were shallow and annoying, but apparently that's what Bioware intended. Really, when the most popular 'NPC' in my game is the one who speaks the least / has the shortest / least annoying soundbytes, I'd probably take the hint. Bigger isn't better in this case either, as most NPCs are completely useless, especially in BG1. Now, they could've gone the PS:T route and either allow the player to control a small group from the get-go or just *gasp* make the games less focused on combat [of course that wouldn't have fit the, uh, story...] or do something like Fallout 2 did. Heck, that might've even enhanced the game by adding a tactical factor of 'keep your incompetent teammates safe' to combat, though I'm not too sure about the long-term appeal of that...

...that said, BG1-2 aren't that bad, if you play them as tactical combat games. Sure, JA2 or FF are both superior to them, but they are still fun :P

Vault Dweller: Good. I was hoping that was what you meant.

I really hated every one of those freaks. I even hated the few player character VO choices.

I often wished that I had an option to sell or sacrifice this freak show I was travelling with till I finally got tired and replaced them with a custom made party.

hey

It also seemed like they expected you to pick some of the characters, making you base your main character around them instead of what you really want to make.

Ain't that the truth! I remember when I started playing Baldur's Gate 2 for the first time, only to discover that Imoen, Minsc and Jaheira got shoved in my face. What the helll? I didn't even bring them along during my stint through BG. That was just poor design on Bioware's side there. Of course, things didn't get better when I realized that my other options for NPC's was an annoying paladin-wannabe, an even more annoying gnome, etc.

The one thing Bio did with characters Iranicus's VO.

Dreadfully boring villain, so I can't see how that changed anything.
