Inquisitor 3 was released on iddqd.ru few weeks ago, it's apparently far more ambitious and bigger than its predecessors.

I hope that we won't have to wait too long for the English translation.

Violence

This neo80s-ish(!) themed 4 level mini episode features custom weapons, custom textures and music by Dan Terminus. Maps are straightforward and the gameplay is slaughterish at times but it was never annoying because the layout of the arenas was well thought out and there were always enough supplies to take on Satan's minions.

Random Imp Generator
Variety is always the best in games, in my opinion. After discovering the imp/dark imp variant packs on Realm667
and toying with them for a while, I thought it'd be cool to put them all together.
Every imp in any Doom level this wad is loaded with has a chance to change into one of the many varieties of regular imps or dark imps.

I like this mod but be aware that using it will change the game's balance as these infernal critters are not just reskinned imps. Some have faster attacks, more HP,... on most wads enabling sv_doubleammo 1 will become pretty much mandatory unless you plan on playing on lower difficulty settings.

Random Deaths is another good mod, the new death animations are refreshing and the ones I've seen so far are all p tasteful.
It works fine with the Random Imp mod.

After getting burnt out on Brutal Doom, I still wanted vanilla gameplay but I liked having alternate deaths for the monsters (and other things) so I put together this for my entertainment and yours.

Nearly all monsters have multiple death sequences, dead things and gore are randomized and a couple other surprises.
This is a gameplay mod that provides enhancement to vanilla monsters but maintains balance to the original gaming experience.

There is D64stuffGZ for GZDoom but it isn't exactly good and it replaces monsters and decorations too... http://www.2shared.com/file/qTOanVgZ/D64StuffGZ.html
It should be possible to edit it with SLADE to remove everything other than weapon replacements, if you're into it and feel like doing that.
I'm surprised that there isn't a purely cosmetic D64 weapon replacement floating around already TBH, considering D64 resurfaced popularity during the last few years.

Yeah, I thought it would be very easy to find such a mod but my google-fu is letting me down today.

I've just created a "Violencewadweapons.wad"

Does anyone know where I can download a good Doom 64 weapon replacement mod? skacky maybe?
Might be that my brain-worms have been making some mess again, but I could swear that I saw master skacky post screenshots of Doom 2 with Doom 64 weapons and vanilla baddies. 'Twas either here or in the screenshots thread. Dunno if the replacement was something he cooked up himself, for personal use, or an existing mod he found somewhere.

Other guns mods?
Counter Strike guns, Guncaster, Trailblazer, Diaz - Last hour of purity, and the one that add guns from CoD: MW2.

Project Brutality is also good thing, but gameplay overhauls is massive. Still recommend it over Brutal Doom (overrated as fuck).
You know what's funny? PB was created from BD, making massive improvement over this mod. Recently it was upgraded,

Are there other tasteful weapon replacement mods for Doom?

Project MSX? But I think that changes way more than just weapons.
Project MSX was really awesome and over the top, shame that it isn't updated anymore. It was like Doom + speed & feel of Vanquish + suit powers like those from Crysis. Completely changes the feel of the game and rapes balance, but its worth just trying it out in combination with slaughtermaps with larger arenas :D (even if the chances are that it will turn them into unplayably difficult first person bullet hell even on lower difficulties due to super fast monsters and projectiles).

I played quite a bit of Demonsteele earlier this year. Basically, imagine melee combat from that Shadow Warrior reboot, then imagine it done right and with significantly more speed and agility. Good shit, 'specially since there are so few mods that focus on melee combat.

Tho, I'm under impression that Astral Rag is mostly interested in stuff that replaces weapon graphics with minimal or non-existent changes to actual gameplay.

I decided to try Skulldash http://joshuaosullivan.co.uk/skulldash/
I'm really enjoying it. It's Doom with another layer of gameplay added on top of it. You have to collect coins that are placed around each map under a time limit. You don't need to collect all of them to unlock the end of each map, just a set number, but if you collect all you unlock additional secret. Some of them also add additional time, others also act like vanilla Doom pickups giving you bonus armor or health...
All maps are accessible from the main hub area
r8NaP7K.jpg

Weapons and ammo don't carry on between maps, but IMO that isn't a big deal here, and all maps are meant to be played from pistol start.

What I really liked is how so far (I finished first two "chapters") each map had a unique theme and sometimes its own gameplay gimmick. The ice in this map is slippery, so movement and platforming require additional care:
vNPyy2c.jpg

They all look nice and are cleanly detailed, with lots of source port effects on display. There are other new gameplay enhancing features too, for example jump pads and fans that lift you up. Their layouts really feel like those of deathmach maps, which suits the mod's gameplay.

Only map I disliked so far was this one
SuWAAXP.jpg

I liked the look of haunted mansion and use of Blood textures, but it was frustrating to play due to number of stealth monsters and lack of health.

There are also some boss fights, I encountered the first one after I finished all maps from second chapter.

As far as I'm concerned this is :greatjob: if you don't mind something very different and gameplay designed around time limits.

Just read bout this WIP TC on Realm667, really can't believe that I wasn't aware of it before. That beta contains only one (mostly finished) proper map + tutorial, but 'tis most certainly worth checking out. He absolutely nailed the atmosphere and look of 80s PA flicks, and all the core mechanics seem to be in place. You'll even have a taste of driving in the tutorial map! Also, while this is obviously a (G)Zdoom affair, design and visuals of both maps just scream Build engine... and honestly, I'm loving it!

Gotta say, the wait for Ashes E1 is going to be pretty painful.

You can have Doom 64 weapon sprites with Smooth Doom. Gotta play that with the PSX sound effects for maximum... effect.

Just discovered two recent Heretic projects:

The Realm of Parthoris
AXHKSSW.png

Welcome to The Realm of Parthoris, the fantasy world in which Heretic takes place. This project aims to create a community based Heretic episode by the end of 2015. A texture pack of 500 textures and flats has been carefully compiled to compliment and expand upon Heretic’s fantasy setting.
I gave this one a go, ended up finishing it. I can't say the same about HYMN, Egregor's previous community project, which suffered from some ridiculously huge and backtracky maps.
Anyway, I liked the new graphics, even tho not every map puts them to particularly good use. Map 4 was easily my favorite as far as the visuals and atmosphere go: large, lavishly detailed cavern, with barren subterranean riverbed (together with fossilized boat) and ruined town. Some of the other maps had some nice looking and memorable bits, but this one was by far my favorite.
Gameplay is pleasantly challenging, pretty much classic Heretic fare with amped up difficulty. There are no new additions to Heretic's arsenal and bestiary.
Maps range between medium and large in size. While they never reach anything near the point where I dropped HYMN, some of them do feel like they they go on for too long, and suffer from issues with flow and aimless backtracking. That would probably be my biggest issue with some parts of this wad. I was pretty much stuck in map 6 for a time, until I randomly stumbled upon the secret exit (btw, I do hope that most folks won't have to deal with that bloody secret map).

Kristus' Heretic episode is probably the best one I played https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/heretic/Ports/curse
He managed to pull out large maps that arent tedious and are really fun to explore, and without any new textures to boot.

EDIT: 2015 Cacowards are up
http://www.doomworld.com/22years/

I'm glad to see Skulldash there, great partial conversion that got surprisingly little attention so far considering how long it has been in development and how good it turned out to be in the end...
