These social-progressives should just write, "Since Bethesda pays us for advertising and Jowood doesn't because they are Krauts, Oblivion = 9.9, G3 = 5" Then, they don't have to bother even writing the four paragraphs and can go back to spending Bethesda's advertising money.

Gothic 3 is still an unfinished product. As much as i love it, i can't help saying it's the most frustrating gaming experience i've had.
And that's why it should be bashed to oblivion. Oblivion.... i also played Oblivion. But it bored me after 3, 4 hours of play. No point developing a character if all the world around you grow to your level.

Are you trying to seriosuly claim that Gothic 3's combat isn't action based? It's 99% based off PLAYER skill; not CHARACTER skill which is a definining trait of RPGs. It's not opinion. It's fact. G3 is an Action RPG; not a full fledge RPG. It's no different than a JE, or a BL in that matter. It's also not an insult. It being labeled an Action RPG has NOTHINJG to do with (lack) of quality; bu tthe type of combat system it uses.

Well Volourn I will say this, Gothic 3 has a much better atmosphere, lacks lame ass silly-storied side quests and has a much better flow and smoother gameplay than any Bioware Frenchy faggot offspring Canadian games.

i know Gothic 3 is an Action RPG, it is still better than ANY Bioware games, maybe on par with BG 1 & 2 to give some credit.

I call Gothic 3 an RPG because I can pretty much do whatever I want when I'm in the game world. Yes, the combat is action oriented. The thing is I don't care about labeling this an action RPG and that a strategic RPG and something else a sandbox RPG. You either make meaningful choices or you don't as far as I care. If you want to be Professor Game Taxonomy, have it at, Volourn. I'm sure your contributions to humanity will be fondly remembered.

Oddly enough, I agree with Volly here. If the main focus of an RPG is combat and that combat is real time clickety click combat than it's an Action RPG. Doesn't matter if it's a great game like Diablo 2 or a shitty one like Mage Knight Apocalypse. It's still an Action RPG. It's nice that a game like Gothic 3 apparently gives you a bunch of choices & consequences.... hence the RPG part of Action RPG.

Franco wins. :D Being called an Action RPG is not meant as insult or attack on the game. I think that's the problem here. the Codexers have spent too much time using a fair label like Action RPG as an insult towards games instead of what it is - simply a label.

If a game is suposed to be an action-rpg and offers lousy action it should be criticized all the same. If you want to see excellent action combat for an rpg play Blade of Darkness.
It's amazing why game devs have such an hard time learning, with such great examples in sites like HOTU and Abandonia, how to implement good gameplay. The problem with Gothic combat would be easly solved with a stamina bar that would allow npcs to only charge as many successive blows as the stamina bar allows for it until it recharges. It's also a good way to factor strenght and endurance into combat and make a mage lousy at it.
I wouldn't even go for a concentration bar used in games like Bushido (or was it some other game i played once in the Amiga) that added an extra tactical level to action combat. I think that if they already have trouble with what they want to do then this would be above their IQ.
