Has there ever been a remake that was actually more or less better than the original game?
SM Pirates, that Flatout 2 remake, River City Ransom EX, Front Mission remake for the DS, lots of snes/nes games remade for the GBC/GBA/DS, Geneforge Remake is supposed to be a slightly better version of the original (unlike the transition from Exile to Avernum or Nethergate Resurrection), and loads of 80s stuff being remade in the 90s.

Not many.. And just because some morons failed at it, it shouldn't suggest that there can't be. In fact, there's hundreds of ideas and great concepts that were ruined by the rest of the original package. But it takes the right kind of people to do it.

How about Arcanum? Lionheart? Hell, even Neverwinter Nights, the way that they play out, progress or the way they're written(respectively) sucks donkey balls. Make Remake a Nice Trend, I say. Some titles would really fucking benefit from a makeover, why not? Some people would to, hahahah. Where's that faith in the positive change :-D

nonono, don't you see?? the last 800 shitty remakes that were all somehow worse than the original games were just flukes, this one is gonna be really special and worth the extra $50 to see the story you already saw 10x by now.

Only the villain in a game is allowed to have his hair tied up in a bun like that and it's because only earth's biggest starbucks-drinking yoga-doing macbook-toting fart-huffing faggots use that hairstyle.

GameStar played it too: https://www.gamestar.de/artikel/gothic-remake-gameplay-endlich-gespielt-demo,3418351.html

https://twistedvoxel.com/gothic-remake-new-details-gamescom-2024/

New details regarding THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive’s upcoming action role-playing game, Gothic Remake, have emerged from Gamescom 2024.

During GameStar’s live stream (via) regarding Gothic Remake alongside the title’s producer Reinhard Pollice and composer Kai Rosenkranz, some brand new details about the upcoming action role-playing game were dropped. For starters, it was revealed that old voice overs from the original are being re-dubbed, but not all original voice actors have been contacted to see if they are available for recording.

It was further mentioned that old dialogues from the original no longer work because there are often new, additional dialogue options and then there would be a mishmash of sound coloring. The iconic scavenger scream doesn’t always sound, and it’s only there sometimes, but it does fit with the overall picture. This also applies to all sound effects and comments from the NPC. Everything that is known from the original is embedded in new sound effects.

Locations have been expanded in a logical way. For example, the exchange site now has a place to sleep for guards, as it is logical for them to also spend the night there and not return to the old camp every evening, given how the exchange site is also fortified with a gate.

Additionally, burning torches can be stuck into the ground to keep your hands free. The well-known roasting meat has now been expanded into a complete cooking skill with recipes. Modding will not offer the freedom to change everything, though changes to mechanics will be possible.

The soundtrack has been expanded, but instead of having synthetic elements, the remake has more authentic ones. It is now more dynamic compared to the original. In Rosenkranz‘s words, it is “more moving with more ups and downs”. As for Extremo, there is a stage, but whether anyone will perform there and, if so, who, has not yet been revealed by the developer.

During combat, you will be knocked down and not killed immediately. The same likely applies to your own attacks on NPCs. As such, the final death blow is also present in the remake. Unlike in the demo, saving your progress will be possible at any time. NPC daily routines have been expanded, and animals also have daily routines. The basic idea is to create the illusion of a living, breathing world. For example, characters go to the mine and will tell you, if asked, that you can meet them on the way there. NPCs also react to the weather and, for example, stand under a shelter when it rains.

The decision to release the Nyras demo for the public has not yet been made by the developer.

This video was good enough, I was getting irritated by all the dumbasses that didn't try to climb and jump on shit immediately. Or dumbasses not getting that the demo is envisioned as a prequel and you play as Nyras. You stupid cunts. It's a surprisingly creative demo concept.

Game's looking foine for now. I like what I saw. Incline is real

Nyras is the novice from the Swamp camp that's driven insane by the Sleeper and steals one of the focus stones, so he's technically one of the bad guys.

Looks pretty decent so far. Only real gripe is the interface, the hp/mp bars look fine, but the menus have this ugly post-modern aesthetic. I miss the old book style of the old one, maybe they can do something creative with it.
