This game is badly in need of a community wiki to easily display game mechanics. Can somebody set something up? I'm sure there are enough people on here to fill it out...

Are there any grindspots in the manner of Murphy's Ghost form Wiz1? Even with highest difficulty and encounter settings it feels very slow.

Also, are other NPCs rape machines like Little Rosy?

Try the inn proprietress, I have heard she has certain rapey proclivities as well.

How can I see the stats of items?

Right click them and drag them over the Assay button after they have been identified. They are all typical D&D stats.

If you don't start with Identify and Detect Secret on one of your spellcasters, it's going to be detrimental to your early play. I didn't, and it's forced alot of touching walls blindly and waiting to identify some items, nevermind the monsters. Those two spells are more important than any damage dealers you will have early on. Other than that, I just beat the Snake (much like in Wizardry 6-8, a Bard really trivializes alot of stuff) but am at a loss thus far as to what the 3 sundials do, but my guess would be they have to do with the chest and fountain behind the bars from earlier in the level. This game is excellent, but it is crying out for a manual and a wiki.

I'm torn between starting over and just pushing forward. My party certainly isn't horrible, but I definitely made some critical mistakes when rolling them that I would immediately correct if I had to do it over.

Is there any way to see what an item does without using it? For example, I found a pouch and assayed it to discover that it's a bag of rock salts. Is there a way to see that it "casts" irritation without testing it in battle?

The thinga I haven't figured out is how special abilities (for the classes) work, and backstabbing. Furthermore, it seems like items such as the bullets and Unholy Symbols that go in secondary slots for many characters are only used when you are granted an extra attack (however that works).

My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.
So, what you get in the Sanctuary start is the following (Spoilers):
  • You can turn a dial to give all party members 1000xp
  • You can open up a chest that gives you a firearm with 99 ammo
  • You can visit a computer terminal to teach your party members 3 skills
  • You can visit an oracle in an adjacent map to identify items
  • No monster spawns in area.
  • Possible secret that may require a spell, (Levitate?)
  • Exit to Crowl locked building with crate
  • Xenomorph Keycard
  • Some scrolls like teleport and/or Dimension Door

Special attacks like dragon breathing are the last option when you right-click on a characters action button. Don't know about backstabbing - it seems that all characters can learn to hide, but there is also a special backstabbing skill for just a few classes.

I believe that you can 'look' at an item and it will tell you some information if you identified it.

So my char has those conditions locked for a while. Even if I sleep, nothing changes, so he is paralyzed forever. Bug or need to use some magic to fix that?
All those are effects of disease. Disease can be cured with fruits from Briarpatch Woods. The problem is that paralyzed character can't eat them, so you need to cure paralyze first. Somewhere (in the Shrine of the Raptor?) I found two paralyze cure potions. I used one of them and it only lowered the condition bar, so I had to use both of them. I unparalyzed my char and then healed his disease, but he is still insane.

Looking at it will give a description, rarely useful though.
After assaying an item, drag the item onto the assay button to see the stats.

On the bottom floor of the Shrine, there is a spot of water where you see sparkles, go there to cure all status ailments.

I just learned that you can look at items by dragging the item onto the look icon - I thought look was just a 'search the room' command.

Click on the special ability icon, if the character has one to use.
Aeorb mindflay is invaluable early game - it uses stamina and does magical damage. It took me a quite a while to figure that out.

I'm trying to figure out the MUST HAVES in any party - the skills and spells you need and which classes this requires.

1. Bard: for Music, Lockpicking and Mephisitics (poison weapons)

2. Cleric: for Healing and Diplomacy (roll for good FEL-charisma)

3. Ranger: for Lockpicking, Scouting and Lethal Blow (advanced classes skill except Ranger also has it)

4. and 5. Two front-line attackers: Warrior or Berserker (or Templar from the start may be possible now)

6. and 7.
Two magic users: Wizard, Thaumaturge, Sage, Necromancer

--

Wizards
are straight-forward.

Thaumaturge is the Alchemist class, which was pretty good in Wizardry. Has Nature Lore, which only the Sage also has.

Sage uses debilitating spells instead of outright attacks. Only class that has Ancient History.

Necromancer is the only class that has Necromancy and additional secret spell line later on. Takes longer to level up.

--

So I guess my choice would be:

Warrior Templar
Ranger Bard
Cleric Wizard
Alchemist Little Rosy ;)

Is there a stat that determines mana regeneration rate. One of my casters regens mana very fast and I have no clue why.

Not directly. The dials are connected to the Aquavia big boss. Many miss that by doing the right thing with them before reaching the obstacle they solve.

My only regret is that I didn't put more speed on my casters. I assume that's what they need to get their turn first so I can alpha strike boss-y fights.

Speaking of which, the Bard should be fucking slow so he can put enemies to sleep at the end of the turn.

Were there any in-game hints about how to get to the southern area of Shrine of the Raptor? I just did it by accident
put the owl figurine in the alcove
but would like to know if there was something I missed.

Sort of.

There are clues, but no hamfisted and lazy "hint" that tells you exactly what to do with a big exclamation mark pointing you in the right direction.

There's a corpse with a map. If you assay the map you'll see there is a doorway at the alcove by the ladder. You get some flavor text when you approach the owl on the wall in the room full of sarcophagi. Roughly it says something like, "Where have we seen this before?" So there's no blatant hint that tells you exactly what to do. There are clues, and if you piece them together and think about it you can come up with a solution. In this case I knew there was a passage behind the alcove so I figured the alcove must be important. The flavor text reminded me that I had a mysterious owl statue in my inventory. Put the two together and voila.

Keep in mind that your Templar will be a Durendil and so have crap armor for quite a while.
With Warrior/Berserker you can put bonus points into HP and they are pretty much unkillable for a long time.
I did Berserker/Metalsmith, no bonus on the smith, so the berserker had way more health.
I also have a Necro and a Sage. The Necro sucks so far. The Sage is pretty nice, also works as a backup Bard, could come in handy later. Are bards affected by silence?

Metal Smith and I think Wizard also got ancient history. Metal Smith for sure. And another in my party I forget who. It could be the bard maybe?

I think there may be a spellcasting attribute the equivalent of speed. I know my fastest character attacks first with a weapon, but last with a spell.

Has anyone managed to make anything with their Metalsmith yet?
