In current year, the Codex considers any game to be an RPG if it identifies as one. The Steam page for Hades lists it as "Genre: Action, Indie, RPG" for the developer-assigned description, which is also the case for their three earlier games, of which, according to the developer Supergiant Games, Pyre is "a party-based RPG", Transistor is "a sci-fi-themed action RPG", and Bastion is a "narrative-rich action RPG".

I finally did beat the big daddy, by abusing the triple shot rocket, like I thought. I went after him again with the rail with deflecting single rockets and doom bullets. But then he pulled out this new attack in the second phase that was utter BS. So I guess I'm just gonna have to hug the two rocks ever time. Does the shield block his beam?

Beat final boss recently, checking out bounties that opened up, and while the game is fine for the price I got it on sale, there doesn't seem to be that much content to justify Binding of Isaac levels of grind. Worst thing is encounters and boss fights tend to drag out with most weapons and boons, making the game a chore to play for long. I like the characters and Greek mythology theme, but gameplay itself is so-so, one could say this is truly Titan Quest of roguelites.

There isn't stuff to grind in this game anyways compared to Binding of Isaac. I have ~120 hours on Hades and 100% everything possible, but I did it in less than 120 because once I finished I spent a bunch of time trying to speedrun. 3.000.000% on Isaac is a different beast in grinding.

As for the fights dragging out, that is one of if not the worst aspects of Hades'. I wouldn't mind it as much if it wasn't for the respawning. If they mixed in some rooms in the same vein as Temple of Styx it would help tremendously. It's not due to the boons though, once you're good enough you'll be flying through with sub-20min run times on every weapon.

Speaking of which, have you guys tried the heat settings that have more enemies, they deal more damage, have more HP, armor, perks and also forces you to clear rooms in less time?

Did I mention this is also the intended way to enjoy the game after you "beat" it?

It just adds to the grind. Only good Heat setting is the change to bosses although I always found the Elysium Heat boss easier than without heat and I'm not sure why

There's a little more than immediately obvious. The Pact of Punishment is actually really fun, and it's worth beating a run on Extreme Measures IV if nothing else.

Finally, after 142 hours, managed to beat the game on 32 heat with the Fists:



The winning combination was Athena's call + Divine Dash and Zeus's Chain Lightning attack.

I was on my last leg before entering the final room, but as luck would find it, the last thing I bought (Athena's Death Defiance Replenishment) saved me from defeat.

The fight was so intense that as it finished, I could hear my heartbeat.

What a game man. What a game.

You mean to say that this game is a "cartoon video game" and therefore should have blacks depicted as Greek gods. In your opinion, is there any game where extreme forced diversity shouldn't exist? Or should all games, or all types of media for that matter, be subjected to blackwashed character designs when those characters (Greek gods in this case) have been depicted as Europeans 99% of the time since their conception?

Played this a while back. Maybe back in 2022, I can’t exactly remember. It’s interesting. The gameplay loop is pretty addictive, but the actual combat gameplay itself sucks. Would be interesting to see this done by someone that knows how to do action combat better. Someone that actually knows what they’re doing with combat that does this same formula could really hook people.

There also aren’t really enough little room sets for the game to mix and match for each area.
