I don't understand the fuss over this game. What about it makes it good? Unless it's some kind of UFO clone I don't see it. The setting is boring and the graphics are weak. The game looks like it's mission based (in other words, play map win - load next map - play map win...so on. I could see myself getting bored very quickly if thats the case. While I have a lot of complaints about Oblivion, at least it's the type (or at least in the general category) of game that most of us wish more game companies would make.

I thought this game already came out. People kept on pointing to it as an example of a non-linear game or whatever. It's probably more likely that I've confused it with something else though.

MISSION-BASED?
I order you executed by removing your penis and shoving it into your throat as far as possible to cause slow asphyxiation for that!

This is as nonlinear as it's possible, having modified with SS engine in mind... Nuff said.
And read what I’ve said above.

jiujitsu

I don't like the setting.
Oh yea, you'd prever the main character to be a brave US marine blasting hunderds generic soviet soldiers in fur hats to steal secret KGB plans about world domination, don't you?
I mean, surely it's completely original, and no one did that before, while in H&S we have a loads of old crap for story, beaten to death in tens of games?

So is it or isn't it? I watched the movie and the environments had an ugly blue edge-of-the-world barrier like UFO and other turn-based tactical games.

The nonlinear stuff doesn't really impress me since it's usually not as nonlinear as you think after playing for a while. Think Deus Ex, Morrowind, Fallout, Arcanum...so on.

All those games either claimed (Morrowind, Deus Ex) or actually had (Fallout, Arcanum) a limited amount of nonlinearity.[/quote]

I don't really see the modification the SS engine received in combat mode. And that's why I don't understand why this game took so long to develop. Nival is a small team? Too many projects going on?

All I see in there is a hacked SS game. Like a commercial mod.

Oh, my! The damage assuming can do! In other words: ur fukin ded fgt.

If I didn't like the idea of being a commie Soviet dog, I'd have said so. Unfortunately for you, I said setting. Which basically means nothing more than location and time period. Oh, and that you have monkey brains.

I don't like modern day time periods for RPGs. It's not fun to role play something that has recently happened for real or is happening for real right now. That is lame. Tre lame. For me anyway. I play games to forget about reality and how suck ass it is. Not to relive the shittiness of it.

So, don't jump to conclusions. You won't make friends that way.

Nival didn't make it, they published it. H&S was made by Novik&Co, it started out as a mod, but then it was made into full fledged game.

It is out in Russia already and it is as unlinear as possible (like Balor mentioned), it has 4 endings, which takes different routes to achieve and some choices are made early in the game (not like in DeusEx when you simply choose before the last mission). Also it is very difficult and challenging, which is also a thing I like about it.

One can hardly say that something that happened 60 years ago is 'modern days'... or 'happened recently'.
Also, it's only loosely based on reality - some stuff is made-up (no stupid panzerkleins, though). Novic, however, is maintainer of forum on military history, so he sure knows his drill and tried to make still as internally consistent as possible.
...
Oh well, tastes differ.
I heard that someone hated P:T because he didn't like the setting, and 'that you cannot play as a paladin'. Welcome to the club.

Looks good but I fucking hate WWII games. I'll wait for Nightwatch, even if its inferior.
Hey there, dipshit. It's not a WWII game.

Indeed. WWII is over already... 'post-war' Germany - does this say something?

So, are they gonna do a demo? Doesn't look like it on the website. Why does nobody do demos anymore? I would never have bought Gothic if it hadn't been for the demo.

Fucking hell, you're right! Its set in 1949, with "extensive WWII weaponry," in Germany, playing a Russian! Its totally fucking different!

Or it's close enough to WWII.
