Fuck the music. Tell us more about the gameplay. The sort of missions, wheter it's non-linear, the amount of areas, the combat, if you can play as an evil bastard, non violent solutions to problems, etc.

Non violent options are in although limited, you are a commando and attacking a outpost will usually involve fighting it out. Branching quests. Some missions are easier if you wait till midnight, sneak in, and plant explosives everywhere. No morality choices yet although I did kill a squad member as it was convient (he had ties to someone I wanted eliminate). Maps can be decent sized although most have been fairly small, no idea how many there are in total. Combat is superb and playing with the difficulty jacked up I've found that the character classes are quite unique in their use. A grenadier is fantastic in certain spot and just mundane in others... at time you'll need a scout who can crawl past a guard.

I found that even though the demo could be completed non-violently, it wasn't particularly satisfying, since the great strength of the Silent Storm engine is the tactical combat.

DEMO SPOILERS :D (highlight to read)

The way I did it, was to dump my nonconcealable weapons at the forester's shack, head into town, talk to Fidel and watch him get captured. Then, I proceded to the prison, with Igor wearing a US uniform, and confronted the warden (in the building to the left of the starting position) and showed my forged papers. I succeeded at an intellect check, and so they brought him to me to escort elsewhere.

But as I say, I had more fun doing it the hard way.

Edit, ha, seems I was beaten to it. Should read other posts before replying. Btw thanks for the extra info, must say that I'm getting really interested in this title.

******************************Demo Spoiler************************

Dress your character in us uniform and speak with the officer in the house next to the prison. Make sure you've got the i.d. papers with you. If you make the intellect check (seems like a dice roll since it's pretty randomn) you get the option to show them and you can take Fidel with you. Voila!

I hope they haven't made a lot of annoying missions like in silent storm. I can't believe haow annoying a couple of them are, such as you kill the leader and the next round the factory blows up, making you restart this hours long fucking mission. Not to mention the one with about 50 locked doors you have to use grenades to blow up to complete the mission. And why would you be carrying that many grenades???

I don't see why they would make missions that pretty much require you play more than once.

Also, a few times I have blow stuff up so severely I could not get to objects I needed tp complete the mission....

Hah. I found that in Silent Storm too. The personal "drives me bat-shit insane" thing I hate is when you kill everyone and the damn game won't recognise it so you're stuck picking up ammo and different weapons in combat mode. Turn by turn. I'm a huge fan of turn-based combat but for the love of God, the turn-based should always stop once the combat does.

That's strange. Usually, it can only happen when you have enemies (or them - you) in sight.
So, the only reasonable explanation that you have an enemy that sees you, but is hidden - therefore, the game is not gettign out of TB.

You probably have Never Return To Real Time selected in the options menu. Switch it off but be aware that by default H&S won't go into combat when you see an enemy. You'll have to find the correct line the s3.cfg .

In spite of a few complaints, I am liking silent storm more and more, so am hopeful for this next one.

Anyone know about patching the silent storm gold US version, though? It says that it is 1.1 sept 30 2003, but I get a bunch of hangs in the mission where I try to take out the russian intel center.

It says there is a 1.2 UK patch, but no 1.2 US patch seems available....

Now that's weird, my first copy of Silent Storm was US retail and it was ver. 1.2 straight out of the box. More JoWood weirdness?

Oh, wow. After returning to this godforsaken place after a couple months, I was expecting to see Hammer & Sickle being talked about like crazy. This thread was on page two! And here's me being naive about all the Oblivion hatred dying away ;D

Anyway, I just got the game yesterday and wanted to post my first impressions. I've been pretty hyped up about this game since whenever it was first mentioned here on the forums, and had pretty high expectations. It's pretty enjoyable, but there's something about it that just doesn't seem very polished; it's not as smooth as I would like it to be, being approached and placed into dialogue mode is sometimes a little jittery. The game auto-recommended Very High everything/2x AF/High AA on my system, but it makes my computer reboot after five minutes of play. Knock the graphics down and I can usually play without problems, but the game looks AWFUL with those jagged edges. This comes from someone who usually sacrifices graphics for speed, extra FPS, and performance without really minding too much.

Combat is pretty fun, but it's not without its gripes, either. In one early mission, I sneaked under a window in crouch-mode and popped up, ready to kill the guy inside. The game, however, won't let me shoot through the window. No problem there - just click on it to open it. But when you open the window, it knocks you back a square, thus putting the guy out of sight. Move forward a square and the window closes. Try to open it again, and it pushes you back again - you get the idea. It put a hamper on my stealthy approach.

Sometimes, you will get shot at by invisible enemies that you can't target. In the previous mission, I killed ALL the enemies - except for Mr. Invisible, who kept taking rifle shots at me. Mr. Invisible also had a line of sight that went from one side of the map to the other. This made leaving the area almost impossible. To leave the area, you had to walk to the edge of the map and click the LEAVE button. You can't be in combat mode when you try to leave. With Mr. Invisible shooting at me, I couldn't exit combat mode.

Sometimes, when assigning ability points, they disappear and take half the tree with them.

Aside from bugs like this, the game is fun. I enjoy the combat tremendously, and the plot doesn't seem too bad so far.

Right now, I'm a little stuck though.

SPOILER:

So, I killed the arms dealer Konrad wanted dead and now have access to his weapons. I didn't find the dynamite. The American chick is in my party and she's pretty good. And now I'm stuck. I imagine I should get papers and ID from Konrad's mother, but when I try to talk to her, she screams about nails in her head and tries to kill me. This makes me think I should get morphine from the doctor and shoot her up, but I don't have the appropriate skill to administer it. I can only travel to the Hamlet. Any suggestions?

Ignore his mother... the dynamite is a second mission. You have to intercept a convoy. You'll only get your reward when you complete that.

Yay! I was JUST looking at your name and hoping you'd show up to help. Thanks for the advice. One question, though. Is the convoy mission assigned after a certain number of in-game days? I haven't recieved it and the radio is only sprouting out gibberish. I haven't tried going to sleep for a few days and letting time pass yet. (not since waiting for the chick to heal)

Not that it would have helped in your case because of LoS, but I found that I usually can shoot through a window as long as I'm a step or two away from it. I haven't tested it thoroughly, but it seemed like you could shoot through as long as you weren't close enough to open it.

Hmmm.. I got the convoy mission in a different way. I sided with Sigmund (the guy Konrad wanted dead) and he gave me the location of the convoy (he also gave me an engineer for the party, Larry :D ). I don't know how you would get it since you killed Sigmund...

I have some other questions though. I didn't get the american chick with me because I didn't notice she was still alive and I found out about this some time after. Also, I know you are supposed to get Mosche, the forester's friend, but how? Whenever I enter the forest, he is not there. Does it matter that I am staying at the hospital and not at the forester?

I also had another problem which I posted about in the game help section (contains spoilers). Now I'm at the prison, trying to free Fidel. I think I'm going to do the guns blazing way, since this is a tactical game after all :)

All in all, H&S is a really cool game and although not really a rpg, it's about as close to one I have seen last year...

Sigmund has a map on him which details the convoy's location.

That was it. I was a dummy and zoomed out too far to see little things like the .45 clips and that map. I'll post in the Game Help section from now on, though.

The Forester will tell you about an art dealer who will give you money when thretened. Moshe will show up after the 2nd withdrawal.

Thanks, I'll try this. But do I have to do anything special for him to tell me that? When I just go and talk to him, all I have are options to modify my weapons.

I haven't decided yet how much I like it.

It does not do a very good job of letting you know what to do, yet it forces you onto a scripted path at the same time. It is sort of irritating. But, the combat seems (slightly) faster.

Just found out something really sad about the game... You can finish it in about 3-4 hours. After you bust into Smith's house, you can to to the last mission. A friend of mine finished it last night, I couldn't believe it.

I mean, goddamit, there isn't enough stuff in there for an add-on, let alone a full game!
It's fun to play, it's replayable, but come on, 4 hours to finish the thing?

Well, there are 3 possible endings, so it kind of adds up, but yeah, the game is short.

About the invisible guys - those are snipers and they are hiding, depending on the game difficulty your stats can be too low to detect them (sometimes they can be one square away and you will not see them). I've had a few situations when I had to calculate where they were hiding and use grenades to flush them out.

You can finish fallout 2 in a couple hours, too, but it takes longer if you go through in any sort of 'normal' way.

I will have to see how long it takes the normal way. Once thing I like is they genuinely aren't afraid to change their gaming system, though. I just wish that some things were more obvious like how to deal with the police without shooting them to death in the street.

You can make them ignore you by dressing properly, not "flashing" guns, oh and you can get forged documents that will get them off your back.
