All you need to know about this game is in my rant.

The movement mechanic, for example, is never explained to players, and so I found myself desperately stuck after just twenty-two hero moves in the first minutes of my first campaign stage. It took a frantic Google search and the use of a Heroes Of Might & Magic III wiki to help me discover that the game was broken down into days, with the end of each day representing the end of the player’s turn and thus the reset of such stats. A painfully simple solution, but one that was mysteriously hidden from me in the game.

Great logical decison there, let a reviewer who is completely alien to Heroes series and turn based games to review the 7th game in the series...

Hey, at least he figured it out.

Thanks to google...
Otherwise he'll be still wondering what does the end turn/day button do.

The prestiguous German magazine Computer Bild Spiele likes it:

positive:

- enormous amount of content
- joyous exploration and building experience
- fitting fantasy atmosphere

negative:

- old fashioned menu design
- campaign occasionally too long winded
- newly equipped armor not shown on avatar

1.95 / letter grade B

And here's one from our neighbours to the west:

  • L'I.A. qui triche
  • Dimension stratégique en retrait
  • Equilibrage bancal
6 / Honnête

Lovers of the French language will note that this is a highly positive review.

Italy shouldn't feel left out either, should it now?

72/100

"grande stile" sounds good, at least.

The first Let's Plays are proceeding at a pretty fast clip:

"For Erebos was with death as a drunk is to wine." There's that trademark inclined Limbic writing that will see you through all sorts of ill times.

this looks pretty generic
those reviews are hilariously bad though, so much that I actually want the game to succeed to show these fucking hacks

So the game just got released. And it's not even the top sale game on steam. It's being outsold by counter strike right now. negative reviews.

And just take a look at their trailer.

Compare it to Heroes 6. This was a no effort game solely here to cash in on the name of the franchise.

This is the last time they rape this franchise. Erwan le Faggot is gonna be assigned to toilet cleaning and they might sell the franchise to another rapist in 20 years.

Tried to play this game multiplayer with a friend over both LAN and internet multi. Game reliably desyncs after approximately 3 - 10 turns or 'days', and crashes to menu the following turn.
This is exactly the same issue that presented when we tried to play throughout the beta.

^From a steam comment...

Seriously? Desync was always a problem in the Heroes Multiplayer games, but this issue should have been fixed several times by now. So they proudly announced on their blog how this game took millions of lines of code to write, and then they fuck this up again. So they are proud of writing crapcode, or what exactly do they want to tell me?

I mean, how is this even possible? Did they use again the code base from 15 years ago? I can't think of anything else. Maybe they should have concentrated on a smaller game (like Heroes I), than trying to create a game with craptastic features and bugs.

Most of the sites seem to be giving it a 7.5. That might be Ubisoft's "go below this grade and you'll never get a review copy again" limit.

All in all, Heroes of Might and Magic VII is a solid addition to the series. The game has plenty of content, beautiful visuals, and a terrific soundtrack to drive the story, but load times and unit balance need to be addressed if the game intends to be at the top of the series. And for goodness sake, do something about those scenario introduction cut scenes.

Positive:

Tons of value with six factions and storylines.Multiplayer and AI Duel modes all available.
Terrific look and feel.
Keeping the gameplay solid and standard HOMM fair.

Negative:

Load times are unacceptable.
Scenario cut scenes are terrible.
Unit balance is a bit shaky.

In before "Balance doesn't matter in a single player game!"

Here's one from the land of sunshine and mobile games:

7.5 - Bueno

While testing, we noticed that the x86 version of this game is broken at several places. E.g. the game crashes if you play the campaign with Jorgen (black guy to the left) or if you load certain maps in skirmish mode. We confirmed this happens on the original game on uplay too, so this is not crack related The x64 version has been much more stable – so we recommend you play that if you can until Ubisoft fixes their bugs.

Pirate review. At least they are honest.

What a success

The vast majority of negative "reviews" seem to contain no valid criticisms apart from the usual "UPlay sux, but have my babies, oily steamy Gaben" mantra, so pardon me if I don't pay attention to those.
What interests me the most is the post-launch support, either Limbic manage to iron out the remaining bugs/issues quickly and win the still-moderately-interested crowd over (the release version lacks that final layer of polish) or the franchise goes the way of the dodo, there's no middle ground.

Good job, I think Heroes 8 will be an awesome game if it's going to be developed by such a dedicated team. You know what they say, small steps lead to great things.
