world of assassination gets you pretty much everything, i think if you download the free demo or something you can register your copy and get a discount on the hitman 3 levels? but even if not it's not that bad a deal it gets you the new levels, seven but really six as well as the new mode we're all talking about. it's a decent enough deal but since you are paying for just six new maps maybe you want to go even cheaper? depends on how much value you get from these games by replaying levels

So uh... that doesn't really answer my question. Is it it like Hitman 7 (II) where I can just get the legacy DLC free? I don't want to pay for the shit I already have. How do I ONLY pay for the Hitman 8 (III) content WITHOUT paying for the stuff I already own, and can I port all my progress, items, and already owned missions to the updated engine? And how precisely do I do that?
Hitman 3 used to be 60 bucks and is now 70 bucks because it includes everything by default. If you buy Hitman 3 which is rebranded to World of Assassination you now get the base games for 1&2 no extra charge other than the ten extra bucks if you're stupid enough to buy full price. You have all the DLC for 2 so you will get 2's DLC for free. There's no way to buy Hitman 3 standalone unless you get a key or something, unless if I recall right you boot up the free demo of Hitman 3 which will then register the DLC ownership and give you 1&2's levels without Hitman 3 and then will either let you pay for just Hitman 3 (even tho you're paying for just Hitman 3 anyway if it's on sale) or it'll maybe discount your ownership of the levels? I dont know for sure. You can port all your progress by using the progress transfer option in the menu of Hitman 3, and you can bring home all the already owned missions since they're now just part of the package except for the DLC missions from 2 which will be automatically given to you in 3 since steam auto-detects your ownership of levels from 2. I suppose just either buy World of Assassination now, try to download the demo first and see if that registers all the games and gives you a discount or just go on G2A

I'm likely not explaining this well, but in actuality it's way simpler for new people. Problem is someone like you who's bought the stuff but hasnt bought this yet might feel he's not getting as good a deal

Okay, I take back what I said earlier. This game mode is pretty awesome. I can see it getting repetitive after a while, but so far I've done around 20 (mostly failed) campaigns and I've been having a blast.

Freelancer really takes the strengths of Hitman and dials them up. It's like Contracts mode but more fleshed out and with less lolrandom crap thrown in. Planning your objectives and loadout, identifying suspects with your camera, slowly building up your arsenal of weapons back at the safehouse, etc., all feels very satisfying. And most maps (like Sapienza) finally feel like they're fully utilized because targets can be anywhere. I'm actually finding new areas despite having played Hitman 3 for about 100 hours already (not to mention 1 and 2).

It's a shame that IO are done with this franchise, because I can see this game mode being expanded upon indefinitely: More suspect identification markers, more enemy types, more challenges, challenges interconnecting better, more campaign types, more map variations (like the mod above), more difficulty levels and whatnot.

10/10 will play again.

i read an interview recently where the live director says there's some patches planned post-launch, so we might get some additional features. if i were to guess probably not a full on year three but maybe up until July we'll get new stuff. There's at least three costumes theyre planning on putting out as unlocks via global challenge packs (a codename 47 polygonal skin, as well as the jacketless and mobster suits from absolution). so i will think probably a patch in march, then they'll release those three costumes dripfed, then a patch in may, then a patch in july. then probably the end of support and freelancer will then have enough additional stuff to carry it for the next couple of years until bond is out
-
like for example i think theyre working on freelancer sidequests according to the leaks, but one thing i want (this isnt going to happen unless im really lucky because it's not a leak) is for syndicate leader missions to not just be indefication missions every time. i would really enjoy if there was an option in the dossiers for not just syndicate types but also leader types. so for example if the leader has the elusive type it's the same mission we currently have but if the leader is the duo type you'll have to eliminate two marked targets instead of having multiple suspects. so then it functions like a regular mission. you could even have trio types. you could have multiple ideas for this, like a body double where there's one target but he or she has a body double that if killed causes the real target to flee automatically. you could have buildup missions that instead of being just killing people you could have to hack something with your camera or collect a document in a handout or destroy/hack a computer

Haven Island fucking annoyed me, so I skipped it for now.

Dubai's the most James Bond the trilogy's been so far, and that's saying something with maps like Paris. Another puzzle box map with some nice design that can really show off what they can do with the game graphically. The camera's mostly a gimmick and it might create moments where timing is key. It's Hitman 3's introduction level so it's not too challenging, and the most obvious mission story makes for an easy double kill. Suit up as a guard to waltz straight in, or become a servant and sneak in behind the scenes. There's a lot of ways to get rid of the targets here, and they managed to sneak the explosive golf ball back in as well. Pretty neat so far.

Dartmoor... well this is something. Visually it's little more than a stately manor surrounded by drab English countryside, and the main story of this mission is wonderful. It took a bit for me to find the hidden key, but from there it was smooth sailing. I did end up finding Carlisle's weird BDSM room and exploited it for some easy kills. The murder mystery was a blast, and the guards were weirdly cavalier about letting their boss yeet herself off a balcony like that. I do feel that besides the murder mystery the level has little to offer. Sure the mansion itself looks great but there's only a few ways to approach the single target, and once you know the code it's trivial to get inside of the safe. It's not helped by the fact that the inside of the manor looks very samey, as do the outside segments even with their minor differences. If you include the main story here the map's great, but if you don't then the quality drops sharply.

Also gave some older missions a try. I found the hidden vial with the not-FOXDIE virus keyed to De Santis' DNA, and good lord that stuff works fast. Combining that with the therapy session for Caruso or start as a guard and make a break for Caruso's room and you can get rid of both of them in record time. Also found the hidden stalactite right above the virus itself, which makes taking the thing out a lot faster than going in there or getting the dongle. And yes, I know about the EMP device. I've also seen people use an exploit where you place a bomb above where the stalactite is in the manor's garage, but either they patched that one out or I'm doing it wrong.

Next up Berlin, which has a gimmick of its own.

Hitman 3 is one of those games where there's really no reason why they can't drop a new map DLC every 2 or 3 months for $10 to $20.

There is a nice excitement to starting a new unseen map and trying not to inevitably fuck everything up.

But, for anyone failing missions in Freelancer: Alt-F4 is your friend. :) It's a nice game-concept but fuck failing a mission because you have no idea weather a guy a certain distance away can see you or not. Guards can be on a balcony with a view of the entire yard and not see shit while you choke everyone out, while some random over a half-wall sees everything. Choke a guy out in full view of two guards down the hall and you're fine but it's the guy round the corner who "hears something" and comes running right as you're dumping the corpse in the conveniently located yet completely empty cupboard - still in full view of the two guards down the hall.

Also, the camera needs a longer lens. Feels a bit too gamey to run up behind people and whip a camera out while you stare at them.

Cranked out Berlin, Chongqing, Mendoza and Romania.

Berlin was something else. A dark and oppressive atmostphere leading up to a night club where you are hunted, only for the hunters to become the huntered. Actually getting rid of the targets in a stealthy fashion isn't too difficult, it's how you get rid of people in other maps to obtain increasingly useful outfits. Figuring out who the targets are is a nice twist, but not very difficult once you realize that they're enforcers no matter your outfit. From there it's figuring out their weakness and disposing of them. Only having to kill half of them makes the map easier, and I'm certainly going to try to take them all out in one go. The plan is to do the guy who you can crush underneath the crane last, then have them all run towards me and gun them down.

Then Chongqing rolls around and the game turns into Deus Ex. Relatively standard map with two puzzle boxes that don't really interact with one another, but they're close enough that it's not really an issue. Hush was pretty straightforward to take out once I got rid of the research aide, and the hidden lab made full use of the camera/hacking tool where that weirdo Imogen Royce called the shots. Honestly with a person like that in charge it's no wonder the ICA sent one of their chairmen to investigate them. Having the place go into full alert once I got to the core was a nice twist, and it made for a fun escape.

Mendoza was a lot of fun. Essentially the puzzle box design taken to its logical conclusion, a (small) mansion with a party going on outside. The atmosphere was very... melancholic, a proper sendoff for the trilogy (it's even called The Farewell). Several ways to get in, a number of ways to deal with your targets and of course the big mission story that I'm glad I stumbled onto. I went Final Destination on Vidal, killing her with everything in the winery before getting her, Don Yates and Diana all in the same room together. Didn't have to lift a finger to off Vidal this way, and Diana was nice enough to shank Yates for me. Too bad that the game railroads you into killing at least one of the guards to void Silent Assassin, maybe using one of those stun explosived you never use elsewhere will help deal with his guards. Or put two guns from the guards in their path, have them bring the guns to a weapon box and have enough time to deal with the Don.

And then Romania hits and the game becomes linear. Literally. You're on the back of a train and you have to sneak to the front. There's only four places you can be: inside the train, on top of the train, or hanging from either side. These four places weave together into a linear path forward. There's some nice weapons here and the guards look pretty cool, but they're kinda wasted in a game where if people are shooting at you you fucked up. Since I don't play SO (for now) the map's challenge mostly came from finding how to progress down the train. At first it felt like this was going to become a puzzle game with resource management, but fortunately it didn't. It's interesting you can get almost all of the achievements in one go, with only a few (like the secret ending) requiring reloads. This wasn't a very good map for a game like this with everything that came prior, and there's little else to do here than the one escalation.

While some of the missions were great they could have done with a bit of restructuring. Keep Mendoza as is minus its ending, follow it up with Chongqing where after you whistleblow on the ICA you are intercepted by Diana who you have a talk with (which is in line with how 47 reacts to the data he deletes on Diana and himself) before she hands you over to the Constant. From there the final mission is a mix of Berlin and the weird acid trip of a dream that 47 had, where all the guards are replaced with targets seen throughout the entire trilogy in either a dream or they are what 47 perceives regular guards as. And as you finally reach the Constant things snap back together, you ged rid of him and walk off into the sunset.

Overall I really like this trilogy (I'd call it a single game since they're all put into a single package, have a unified narrative and gameplay, and progression carries across all games). I've still got a lot of things to do, might try some more SA, SO and sniper runs, unlock some more stuff and just prod at the maps to see what I can do with them. Still got to do Haven and Ambrose as well, so we'll see.

"Let's try Haven Island." I thought. "It can't be as bad as people say." I thought.

Hoo boy.

I don't know what's in the water in this place but it gives NPCs telescopic vision and x-ray vision as well, with one guy in the gym spotting me through a wall, punching bag and another guy at the same time. NPCs stop talking like you're too close except you're 30' away and in a mundane setting, or keep blabbering while you're trying to have a conversation with one of your targets. The map itself feels like Santa Fortuna but on an island, in that while the targets can interact they mostly stick to their own spots until you step in. The dudebro is easily seperated from his bodyguard (as long as you don't mind reloading until you can do so without being noticed by one of the psychic guards), and I stopped being able to take the Russian lady seriously after I stuffed the weirdo from Hokkaido in a box, saboutaged a trap door and she fell to her death like a damn cartoon character. As for the main target... what the fuck is wrong with him. Helping him out easily lets you be alone with him (though the first time I made the mistake of stuffing the bodies of the nearby guard and maid in his safe room, so he spotted them), and playing doctor first resulted in me getting spotted and gunned down in his bathroom. I mean, that was a first with an open bathroom like his.

I also don't like the weather changes to the map as you take out the targets. With two down things start to get stormy, which kills the entire mood of the place. It's also weird that the NPCs don't react at all by taking cover or certain places closing down.

So yeah, not a fan. I did unlock the massively useful Sieker (which helped me gather all the data discs in New York, and apparently you can use the emetic gas device while it's in a suitcase to safely poison people anywhere. So with those two unlocked, I'm not expecting to go back anytime soon.

New roadmap:

https://ioi.dk/hitman?panel=hitman/roadmaps/2023/summer-roadmap

h_woa-summer_roadmap_2023_1920x1080.png

New challenge in Hokkaido out right now to get the robe for use in all maps, another challenge July 6th, whole lotta repeats of the elusive targets, new patch in August.

Primary draws are the Sarajevo Six campaign coming August 17th... but it'll cost ya $5. Same price tag for the Trinity Pack, a former preorder exclusive with three suits, three suitcases and three guns in white, black and red.

Sarajevo Six is here:

Also the Trinity pack, but because IOI fucked up you can't actually buy it right now, which is why it doesn't load properly when posting the purchase option here. Or at least I can't. Not the biggest loss:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1829596/HITMAN_3__Trinity_Pack/

And the patch notes:

https://ioi.dk/hitman?panel=hitman/patch-notes/2023/hitman-woa-august-patch-notes

On top of the DLC there are a few changes to tech, normal gameplay and Freelancer, with the most notable change for the latter being the deliberate return of the ALT-F4 exploit.

Played the first two missions so far. The targets are in the middle of a bunch of bodyguards, so you'll have to lure them away for that Silent Assassin rating. The first two thus far only have one new objective to take them out, so don't expect there to be a whole slew of new stuff to do. The missions themselves run just fine, and I didn't see anything game breaking caused by the recent update.

The Trinity pack still cannot be purchased.

I haven't played Hitman since the original trilogy. Is the new series worth buying?

For the current price? Lolno. Wait for a sale, then get the main game, the Hitman 2 expansion and maybe the Sarajevo Six missions (posted above) if you want to experience the Hitman 1 maps in a different way. You can skip everything else.

Note that this is the version you want, it'll give you all the base missions of the trilogy and the former DLC stuff of the first game:

And the expansion. Note that the horrible review score is because it is being offered again to people who already bought it the first time:

But again, wait for a sale.

According to my info, a new studio hired nearly 100 former IOI staff: https://www.linkedin.com/company/raw-power-games/people/

Most of them quit in waves starting from August 2023 (I don't know the reason). Others were booted back in 2017 during the Square Enix split.

Basically, almost all Hitman devs are at Raw Power Games now. They also poached some key people from CDPR, Funcom, Unity, etc.

Apparently, they hired a couple hundred people in less than a year and their new AAA project is already fully funded.

As for IOI, Hakan Abrak (current CEO) hired 300 new people and opened 5 studios. It's a new company now. Not sure what's going on with that Bond game.
