The Codex simply decided this "influence" was limited to the spell effects.

Fine, also NPC-specific gear. Does this makes the gameplay "heavily influenced by FF"?

I think there are more things that influenced than those two. Why would they even bother mentioning these FFs if all the ideas they got from them was spiffy spell effects and npc specific gear (which is common to all jrpgs, btw)?

Or maybe it was just that. Iirc, the quote was "source of inspiration", not "heavy influence" or similar. They never mentioned what exactly was used, but the Codex decided it was the spells only. That's what Volly was trying to point out before his supersanity got the best of him.

Still, your favrit gaem is undeniably tainted forever by Sephy and co. :smug:

The quote I was talking about was:

Everybody who isn't arrogant knows that FF itself, depsite it being a western rpg, was heavily influenced by FF. FFS

Of course it's Volourn and he actually thinks that the developers mentioning FF means it was heavily influenced, but he wouldn't be able to tell what is that influence I'm sure.

I don't remember exactly what the developers said, if they were inspired or if it was a simple "thanks".
In the Fallout credits for example they thank Bomberman, Quake and Diablo. Though, I think I can see it there: You can place explosives, shoot and fight big monsters.

Still, your favrit gaem is undeniably tainted forever by Sephy and co.

Still doesn't make the gameplay heavily, if at all, influenced by FF. Volourn is just butthurt that people here are making fun of Bioware's turds and that's why he's trolling like there's no tomorrow.

Codex butthurt over PST developers stating quite clearly that the game was influenced by FF? Not. surprising. at. all.

actually, it's not butt-hurt. your initial comment didn't make any sense and was irrelevant. if people say "it'd be cool if such and such a game was like PS:T they most likely mean "it'd be cool if there was a lot of creative and fairly well-written and interesting dialogue and story". so the FF comment is just kinda...y'know, flippant and useless.

This thread has gone slightly off topic, but I just wanted to pop in and thank the Codex for the interview. It was great fun!
