Is Doom 64 the best Doom?

Too bad the kid stuck with a n64 when everyone else had a PSX probably had shitty parents that wouldn't buy a game like this.

He means how the Doom 64 enemies have that plasticine, 3D modelled look to them. So do some of Doom 1/2's (since many of them were based off actual physical models) but they had far less pronounced lighting on them and generally looked more like traditional pixel art. Doom 64's look like bizarre prerenderings.

Keyboard for strafing, mouse for turning. Faggot doesn't even know how to play Doom.

Enemies seems pretty slow. Good atmosphere though

Using mouse in this sort of game just feels incredibly awkward, I don't know how you people manage

I played all 2.5D FPS, including Duke3D, in keyboard only and I absolutely fucking ruled at these. Even in multiplayer.

A friend had a broken KB and he played Doom with mouse only, and was good at it too. It was weird, instead of strafing, he'd run in, shoot and then retreat backwards, in a straight line.

I tried that Doom 64 PC version. Seems like increasing gamma makes the game more playable but it somehow feels like it was meant to be very dark. Also I died second level to some block crushing trap. What the fuck?

I like the atmospheric soundtrack. Seems like this game succeeds in what Doom 3 failed to do.

By the way, wasn't the N64 or PS1 version of Quake 2 a completely different game ? What's that like?

I played the PS1 version(i think the porting team is hammerhead or something). Good port but inferior to the original(as it should be): slower walking speed, less detailed models more loading times and levels are shorter and some levels from the original was cut. multi was good with a bro, but its just your tipical poor man's stuff. The only advantage is that the game come with all the music from the mission pack and original's. Dont know about the N64 version.

There's zero ways that Doom 64 can beat Doom 2. It's outclassed simply because Zdoom and almost 20 years of Doom wads exist. It cannot compete. It's just that simple. I still play Doom 2 through Zdoom and with wad files every couple of days (me and one of my friends play it as a primary game in coop). In that regard, Doom beats almost every game that has ever been made. I also think that even though that judgment is based on playing with friends and nostalgia, Doom still has game mechanics we haven't seen for an enormous amount of time that were intelligently designed and well-executed, then just ignored in sequent generations of games.

The PS1 port was a port of the PC version of Quake II. The N64 version was a different game & was more like a console exclusive expansion pack.
