Is the original Sacred any good?

I read the posts about Sacred Gold, but my local Hastings has the original Sacred for 10 bucks, I was thinking about buying it. Would anyone recommend it, or what?

I don't know, why get the original Sacred when you'll probably be able to get Sacred Gold for a few bucks more?

Because this is douche-bag-town Texas where there aren't any game stores. Hastings is a book/music/video rental/console game store, they have like one rack at the back for PC games and Sacred is the only thing they've got, not Sacred Gold.

Now that you mention it, why not forget Sacred altogher and just buy a copy of For a Few Dollars More?

About 8 meters beneath sea level.
It's a fun albeit shallow action rpg with loads of phat loot and ways to make your pc even better in killing things. The expansions however offer more loot, areas, enemies and ways to make your pc better at killing stuff. Personally I'd go for the latter, just for the added variety.

No, its not good, its really not worth any money.
For example one could equip items that have the ability "kill enemy on sight" (or whatever it is in english).
With enough of this items one could just run through any area and watch the enemys explode...
And there are some major bugs...it took me 4 attempts to finish the story.

BUT

Sacred with the addon is really cool in my oppinion.
The most bugs are fixed now, i havent had a major bug for months.
The world is quite huge with some cool monsters in it.
Playing around with the possibilities of the charachters is really funny and with the addon there are some interesting set and unique items.
The online community is still active (well, the german one, dont know about the english, their servers are seperated from ours...)

all in all, its still fun to me playing sacred (i have played it since it came out here...this game has a looong history of changes ;))

But be warned, i never played Sacred in singleplayer Mode, it was just too boring...most of the time you are running from one place to another.
Lets face it: Dont expect good quests or an interesting story, this game is about killing stuff as fast as you can.
If you liked Diablo, this game is probably yours.
It has some interesting new aspects that make it more interesting than diablo 2 to me.

Sacred Gold is just Sacred, Sacred Underworld and the Sacred Plus download. If you've onlyt got Sacred there, buy it and download the plus pack. Then all you need is the Underworld expansion if you ever see it. Barring that, Sacred Gold and Underworld go for about the same amount so if you really want the extra 50% the expansion adds, you could probably buy either of them later for the same price.

It's a Diablo-type game, huh? Well, that kinda kills my enthusiasm. If I see Gold I'll buy it because of the praise it gets. But mostly I'm just at a loss for games to play. PS:T was great but it isn't incredibly replayable.

Mostly I've just been playing Starcraft lately, for lack of anything else, and I'm not really willing to spend more than 10 or 20 dollars on a game right now. Any suggestions?

In my country the system operates YOU
Did you try mount & blade?

It is surprisingly good. It reminds me of darklands in many ways, except almost like a photonegative - the quests and backstory are pretty marginal (at least int his version) but the combat is simply amazing. I am also surprised since it's so well balanced and realistic. Usually I look at stuff with a jaundiced programmer's eye and think it kind of sucks or is halfassed, but I look at this and just wonder how it's possible, both the system itself and the programming...no to mention the attention to detail in how well the animations work together. Doing that is a serious pain, and I doubt I could do it half so well as he has done.

I never expected to see a realtime combat system that genuinely modeled real combat and tactics, but this one does.

I tried the demo since you guys were talking about it so much but I didn't enjoy it much. I didn't get very far, of course, I couldn't get past the first guy where you had to fight in the arena.

RPG or FPS or (real time, I'm not in the mood for turn based) Strategy games would be good recomendations. I'm thinking instead of Sacred I could just reload Diablo, if I wanted that.

When I went to the store I was actually looking for Temple of Elemental Evil.

Did you tried

Gothic 1/2?
These games have a huge fanbase here and i found Gothic 2 quite nice.
Its nor really heavy RPG since you dont have that much choices and you fight most of the time, but nevertheless the gameworld feels alive and it just does a good job in wasting your time.

Neverwinter Nights Gold Edition
Yes, the Singleplayer mostly sucks, but if you dont mind playing in the internet, there are many many different persistent worlds to play at:
From Diablo clone module to heavy RP worlds with a dungeonmaster that creates quests for them, jumps into NPCs so they talk with the party etc.
Or, if you dont like the big Servers, you just look for some " regulars' table" RP groups that meet at a specific time and try to play their own little RP.

farcry
Its an FPS, but not wit the boring Vietnam or WW2 Setting.
Instead, its setting is a big isolated island.
The funny thing in this game is, that is has not a restricted level design as most shooters tend to have but a very open one.
You only have an objective to achieve and the way you do is mostly up to you:
You could sneak to that car with the gatling gun and drive away, or you allure the enemys into the jungle where you can kill them one by one.
Or you sneak to that big watchtower, kill the guey in it silently and then pull out your sniper rifle...

Homeworld
Its an interesting RTS game in space.
But be warned...its really DIFFICULT, for most its even too difficult to be fun.
The key in this game is to defend yourself against the enemy with minimum losses because you take all aour units into the next missions.
So its sometimes a puzzling game where you need to play a mission once just to see what happens and then replay it for receiving optimal results.

Oh and Deus Ex of course
Nice shooter, sure you heard of that game...

Since you dont like turn based strategy games thats almost all i have to offer i guess.

At last i have to admit that i am famous for my love of shitty games...i even think sacred is a great game :D

Oh one more thing, ever played Secret of Mana?
Its an SNES game, i liked it much when i was 12 ;), but it gained cult status here and since it does not cost anything...

I'll look into Gothic 2. Maybe the local Best Buy will have it for 20 bucks or something.

I have Homeworld and it is very difficult. I've had it for a long time but I haven't beaten it yet, I'm stuck on this one level where you have to bypass some minefields and I haven't played it in a long time.

Deus Ex I would play except it doesn't work on my computer :(

I didn't like Secret of Mana, but I did really like Terranigma. Fun game.

You will maybe want to buy Gothic2 Gold Edition then.

It makes the game a bit more challenging, but Gothic 2 alone is a good choice too.

Hm you know what?
your question made me think about good games i have played...almost all of them are multiplayer games, i think i have never seen a game with a really good story and some freedom for choices yet.

Ah and...dont blame me when you dont like Gothic 2, i told you that i have a weird taste.

Have you tried Arx Fatalis? http://www.arxfatalis-online.com/index_eng.php Try the demo if not. The controls are a bit hard at first, but it's really nice.

Dominions 1-2 are good, but turn based. You may like it, if you were lookig fot ToEE.

Sacred is just Diablo 2 with better gfx, "combos", huge world, but the dungeons are not random generated, and not so dark setting.

By the way, are there any good platformers out there? For PC? I saw Prince of Persia Sands of Time for PC for 10 bucks there, is that any good? I love platformers.

Im sure you tried the wizardry games?

And what about Age of empires 2 + Age of conquerors (i played that for 3 years in multiplayer, too ;), i am sure there are some nice scenarios around for it, too.

Oh btw, Sacred is not just like Diablo, its different in many ways, but thats not the topic in here, i guess.

Try PoP:ST, it's very good. As was said, the other two are worthless. Also, why doesn't Deus Ex work on your copmuter? Reformat and try again.
