Depends on the armor you're wearing (haevy armor is louder) and whether you walk instead of run or not.

I just pulled the Flayers. I would run out in front of them, and then back into a room, they'd run into melee range, and that was it.

So guys, every once in a while my Soul Ray deals an insane amount of damage (1193 the last time that this happened) to opponents it usually deals about 200 damage. And it's not part of a series, it's just a single shot. Any idea why this happens?

Some opponents have weak spots. However, the only one I'm aware of off the top of my head where this the event you describe certainly occurs is a rock worm (open mouth).

I rescued Ostrava when I was first exploring 1-2, but I didn't bother to check on him everytime I tried to finish that level. Now, I haven't met him in 1-3 even though I already opened the gate and killed the fat official beside it. Did I screw something up regarding Ostrava?

Finished world 2. Then helped some poor archer fight Flamelurker; it was fun because both of us dealt damage at a distance. It was rewarding to get a message from the guy thanking me; he seems to have spent some time on that boss.

Now, that fucking Maneater :-(

You mean the gate right after the fountain area with the dogs? If so, yes, Ostrava is supposed to be right there fighting red-eyed knights on the opposite side. He can take quite a beating, but if for some reason you dallied while he was getting beat there then it's possible he was killed. Did you check the alley to the left after those stairs, which the gate divides? hHe should be standing there if you saved him.

If you can't find him or his corpse you're pretty much outta luck in regards to a certain key, which lets you access a small side area.

Flamelurker and Maneater are great fights. Maneater was a huge surprise when I first fought him because I took my sweet ass time...

I'll check the side alley.

But if he isn't there, what did I fuck up? [I did rescue him both in 1-1 and 1-2.]

I've had this exact situation and I think he may have died to the enemies in 1-2 where he patrols after rescuing him.

Well, now I think it's easy and I will succeed with no problems ;) The Souls games seem to be like that: 50+ hours for the first playthrough (without spoiling oneself), 10 hours for the second.

Killed the False King. He's not so difficult once you figure out his patterns. Every once in a while I just ran like hell as far away from him as possible to eat a grass, somehow he always gave me a chance to do that. Maybe the Thief's ring helped.
Is there a use for his soul apart from that Regalia thing? I'm not sure I can even obtain it. And neither Yuria nor Freke offer me spells for it.

Maybe now I'll be man enough to face the Maneater again. My Magic is 35 so hopefully my Soul Ray and Crescent Falchion will give him / them some trouble.

Is Demon's Soul still having issues with world tendencies shifting back to neutral when playing online? It was quite annoying.

Is that an issue or a feature? Thought the shifts represented how well other players are doing. The tendencies do shift but I don't think they always change back to neutral.

There are features that shift it, but there was a bug floating around where drastic shifts in tendencies would occur. For example, I had shifted world 4 to pure black, then I returned to the game the following day and it was neutral. I had killed no Black Phantoms, Primal Demons, or anything that would cause a tendency shift on my part. I'd given up on being logged in to the network after it happening a few times.

The normal behaviour is supposed to have the world shift to a global setting, but these tend to be drastic inconsistent changes. It's not a huge deal, but can be problematic if you're not paying attention.

I managed to get PWWT and PBWT on most worlds during a fresh "online" playthrough about a month ago, it went fine, but the tendencies did converge over time.

Alright guys, a question regarding 4-2. I just got the Friend's Ring from the Monumental. I jumped into the 4-2 pit and then killed the black phantom standing there. There's an item on an inaccessible stalagmite there (tried jumping on it from above but couldn't do it), and a message says "if you have white soul tendency, you can proceed". Does this mean white WORLD tendency?

But my character's soul tendency is pure white; this page: http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/friend-s-ring says that to get the Friend's ring it needs to be PWWT. After that I just killed one black phantom. I'm suspecting what I need is the correct WORLD tendency. But I decided not to game this during my first playthrough, so no deaths in the Nexus etc. I'm starting to regret this since e.g. from here: http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/selen-vinland I see that I'm losing some lore information because of that.

Sorry for being so obtuse. I meant Pure White World Tendency.

Finished world 5. That Garl fight was a bit weird since after some time I realised I can just hit him with Fireball and he won't retaliate. (Tried 10+ times to fight him in melee by skillful dodging and casting Protection just in case, while jabbing him with my Crescent Falchion +3, and managed to get his health down to 10%, and even managed to interrupt his healing move, but then he ROFLstomped me with a single parry & riposte move. Good fun, good fun. )

But 4-2 still rapes me. I finally realised where that fucking second Reaper is. Goddamnit beam-shooting & reviving ghosts.

I make it a point to kill Garl before I go on to 4-2. His Dark Silver Shield is great for blocking those laser beams that do massive damage otherwise.

Thanks, I will try that. I have Strength 10, though, while its requirement is 16. I will see whether I can block the magic damage nonetheless.

...although my initial idea was to rush like hell towards the 2nd Reaper.

Actually, on my first try, I got so scared by the gigglin'&stabbin'n'shit I just ran like hell and managed to reach the 3rd Reaper :D

You can literally just run past everything in 4-2. Good level, though. 4-3 is unfortunately the stupidest, easiest and shittiest boss in the game. I was really wondering if I was missing something.
