RPG Player has posted a review of Icewind Dale 2. The reviewer gives it an 83/100, with a bit of criticism about the game not having an Italian version yet, even though the game was finished many months ago.

However, here's a fun clip that should make some of the older fans twitch:

In 1997 Ultima was the last memento of role playing games for PC that old players like us had. But something was going to change, an earthquake was going to befall, nothing would have ever been the same, balance was about to be broken and role playing games were going to rise up again with the knowledge that dreams and fantastic stories, were able to drag everyone in the fantasy world: Baldur?s Gate had arrived.

Bioware?s game doubtlessly acted as a watershed for the new generation of role-playing games. Beyond the extraordinary success of sales, Baldur?s Gate had another ?treasure? inside that was its own heart: the famous graphic engine called Infinity Engine. In the whole history of crpg no graphic engine has given fans so many hours of playing and entertainment and since its structure has remained the same, so does the amusement.

Poor, poor Ultima.

Wow...this is even worse than "Fallout Tactics, CRPG of the Year!"

In 1997 Ultima was the last memento of role playing games for PC that old players like us had.

I had a laugh at the above line. Seriously, that moron has no clue whatsoever. Their license to post stupid reviews has been revoked.

What's funny is Ultima VIII was 1994, Ultima IX was 1999.. The only Ultima that was released in 1997 was.. Ultima Online.

Either this guy has no friggin' clue about what he's talking about, i.e. ignorance.. Or he's a complete idiot who thinks UO was the "last momento to appeal to old players".

Honestly, how many old school CRPGers did BG appeal to as well, given it's action-yet-passive combat system, it's piss poor linear and constrained plot, and so on.

And even comparing the Ultima series to Icewind Dale 2 is just plain wrong.
