I am inclined to agree with you, but it's a shocker for me to face this sort of bullshit opposition since Mordred spawns north of Wales while Lancelot starts in Cornwall. Another 'reward the good' bullshit mechanics, I suppose.

I also realized 'Normal' difficulty only gives the enemy heroes 50% of their max HP & Mana compared to heroes of the same level. Now that's an interesting factor to change in the Rightful Christian playthrough.

As agreed, we will take down the two Formorian armies to bring the Unseelie to an alliance negotiation. Sir Dagonet's army enters Bedegraine Forest to attack the first one.

01.jpg

ywa.jpg
Thick forests..

02.jpg

dag.jpg
We are fortunate. The giants will have a hard time running past these trees.

luc.jpg
Do not forget those wargs as well. I suggest we rely on finesse than brute force.

fio.jpg
Finally some sense in your heads. Let us proceed at once.

luc.jpg
I'll teleport to the northeastest monastery.

03.jpg

dag.jpg
Cavalry, move out to secure both southern points!

fio.jpg
I shall proceed to aid Sir Lucan.

04.jpg

fio.jpg
Hah. Try to sneak up on me!

05.jpg

dag.jpg
Excellent. Signal Lady Fiona to move on to the northwest point.

06.jpg

The Giants have a hard time keeping up with the teleporting army. Keep this up, and their morale should drop.

07.jpg

They took the southwest VP, but left one unit of giant to guard it while they march northeast.

08.jpg

We teleport in to capitalize.

09.jpg

ywa.jpg
Hahah! Tis' too easy!

The giants could not do much and were stranded in the middle without a single control of VP. Their morale collapsed.

10.jpg

11.jpg

Sir Bors and Gareth are still imprisoned by Lancelot's remaining forces, I decided to just free them with gold. You could ransom for guaranteed success, or gamble with smaller amount of gold to mount rescue attempts.

12.jpg

13.jpg

Once Cornwall is cleared of any danger, we can commence the Bedegraine Forest campaign. Oh, forgot to mention we gained units for Defeating Lancelot!

14.jpg

Two whole units of Formorian Giants! :salute:

15.jpg

Sir Bors and Sir Gareth reforms in Viroconium with the Giant army.

16.jpg

Meanwhile the Crusaders of Norfolk are at it again. Fuckers won't stop spawning. Sir Dagonet dealt with them handily.

17.jpg

18.jpg

This time, we send Sir Bors to deal with the second Giant Army.

19.jpg

20.jpg

I was underestimating the melee power of the giants..

21.jpg

I wanted to grab 2 VP while denying them of their second one.

22.jpg

Sir Bors losing a lot of HP. I tossed a spell immunity and curse of Shadows around him and pray.

23.jpg

Sir Bors didn't make it, but our giants still stood. We start hammering on the enemy remnants.

24.jpg

Sir Gareth nearly succumbed to his wounds, but a Dragon's Breath or three is enough to drop their morale.

25.jpg

26.jpg

Close call. Remember the Secrets of Merlin quest? This one involves traveling to all three monasteries in the world map. You can either negotiate or battle for the piece. Since I'm swimming in artifacts and resources, I just toss them whatever they want.

These guys wanted nuns, so we hand over two ladies in waiting.
27.jpg

With the Giants defeated, the Grey Baron is ready to negotiate.

28.jpg

29.jpg

kay.jpg
Best to explore these unknown.

30.jpg

kay.jpg
You! How did you get here?

31.jpg

kay.jpg
Very well. But it's going to cost you...

32.jpg

kay.jpg
Curses! Very well then, let's retreat to the tower for now.

33.jpg

kay.jpg
I come on behalf of King Arthur, ruler of Britannia!

34.jpg

kay.jpg
Submit to King Arthur, and the Unseelie Court's safety is guaranteed!

35.jpg

kay.jpg
I cannot accept this nonsense. The King of Britannia serves no one!

36.jpg

kay.jpg
Speak quickly.

37.jpg

kay.jpg
I accept those terms, the Baron will pay for his insolence.

As we near the finale, I hear unpleasant news regarding the Lionheart (2010) game by Neocore. Seems like a lot of the forum users at Paradox posted unavoidable crashes that cannot be fixed even with the latest patch. With the announcement of King Arthur 2, it is doubtful support would continue for Lionheart.

I am withholding purchase of Lionheart until those doubts are cleared.

00.jpg

Tossing out more artifacts to complete Secrets of Merlin.
01.jpg

And money.
02.jpg

Merlin finally joins us, but since he is the 13th hero to join us, we are unable to level him up or assign him a province. Kinda weird really. It's a pity. But he's not really a needed.

Sir Dagonet crushes another Christian uprising in Norfolk. Where the fuck do they get these army from?
04.jpg

Completing Merlin's Secrets will trigger the following quest:
05.jpg

And it seems the time has come to clear up the Scourge for good.
06.jpg

kay.jpg
I cannot let Sir Galahad gain too much power. We must stop him now!

bed.jpg
Very well, Commander. We shall engage his army at once!

07.jpg

Forest and Hills sound good.

08.jpg

09.jpg

10.jpg

kay.jpg
Quickly we must set up our archer positions while our cavalry secure strategic points. Their armies are fast and strong!

bed.jpg
We hear you, Commander.

gre.jpg
I WISH TO SPEAK, COMMANDER

kay.jpg
Go ahead, Ancient one.

gre.jpg
I HAVE STUDIED A NEW SPELL...WHICH HAS...UNSEEN POSSIBILITIES....

kay.jpg
Spare me the details and get to the point.

gre.jpg
THE SHIFTING POOL IS *KNOWN* TO ME.

kay.jpg
What does this spell do?

bed.jpg
Truly? I've heard it is possible to create a one-way portal with that magic, whole armies could traverse immense distances within moments.

gre.jpg
DO YOU WISH ME TO EMPLOY THIS SPELL, COMMANDER?

kay.jpg
Our archers could escape at will...however...

Sir Kay pondered the possibilities for a while. If it's true, then his archers could devastate the enemy line and escape unscathed when the enemy comes closer. But the enemy could still enter the gates to catch up...but...what if?

bed.jpg
Commander?

Sir Kay smile grew broader.

11.jpg

kay.jpg
READY YOUR ARROWS!

12.jpg

Almost suddenly, a small detachment of the Christian army was teleported to their sights...and the arrows flew on command. They never stood a chance.

13.jpg

Disoriented from the unexpected travel with hundreds of arrows greeting their arrival, the Christian army lost 1/3 of their forces within an instant. And since the portal is a one-way trip, there is no way but forward.

kay.jpg
Enemy cavalry approach! BEGIN EVASIVE MANEUVER!

14.jpg

Dozens of knights charged the archers, but Sir Kay remained calm and ordered the volleys to continue, despite the risk of friendly fire.

15.jpg

Two brigand units fell, but the threat was nullified. The two friendly cavalry mop up the remnants.

16.jpg

When the dust settles, only a few Christian infantry remained.

17.jpg

kay.jpg
Pull the last one in and let's finish this.

gre.jpg
AFFIRMATIVE.

18.jpg

Sir Galahad's army was truly dead and buried.

19.jpg

20.jpg

The two brigand units lost was of no consequence, we're replacing them with Unseelie Archers anyway.

21.jpg

Tougher, faster, magic resistant, and immune to Fog conditions.

Sir Bors challenges another Christian Army.

22.jpg

bor.jpg
What's a matter, zealots?! Never seen a giant before?!

23.jpg

The Christian army was in disarray, Sir Garreth Dragon's Breath claimed more lives.

24.jpg

While Sir Bors mowed down Lionhearts and Royal Guards alike with ease.

25.jpg

bor.jpg
MOAR! ..What the-

26.jpg

gar.jpg
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

bor.jpg
Meddlesome sage! Accept that the best way to kill is with steel!

27.jpg

gar.jpg
Point taken. Charge!

28.jpg

29.jpg

gar.jpg
Fine, I'll cut you all down with my sword... Wait, never mind.

30.jpg

gar.jpg
Meet thy Maker!

31.jpg

gar.jpg
Your Faith is weak!

32.jpg

33.jpg

Elsewhere, deep in Bedegraine Forest...

34.jpg

bal.jpg
Remember, NO MERCY!

mor.jpg
Of course.

ced.jpg
Aye, Sir Balin.

35.jpg

mor.jpg
Heh, the forest sure have a lot of strange things in them...

bal.jpg
There he is! Get him!

36.jpg

mor.jpg
Be honored, for you shall die by my blade!

37.jpg

ced.jpg
Be careful, Sir Mordred!

38.jpg

mor.jpg
Pfft. Just a minor burn... Come, Cedric, let's extinguish their pitiful lives!

ced.jpg
FOR CAMELOT!

39.jpg

40.jpg

41.jpg

42.jpg

king.jpg
So it is done?

kay.jpg
Yes, Your Highness. All that is left is to crush the remnants of the Seelie armies...and then...

Sir Kay's voice falters.

43.jpg

king.jpg
Say no more, Brother.

I've had only like one crash in Lionheart that I can think of, and it crashed only because of the buttload of troops on the map (very last battle) and me using maximum graphics settings.

And lol at 11x archers in Kay's army

The Final Battle is at hand. The Seelie Army in Bedegraine must be destroyed. But first, the Christians must be purged. They have taken residence in all three known monasteries in Britannia.

bed.jpg
Just like the Crusaders did, eh?

dag.jpg
Recommend we burn those places down after we finish them off.

kay.jpg
My brothers, let us finish what our King has started when he drew Excalibur!

bor.jpg
To the Old Faith!

gar.jpg
For Camelot!

luc.jpg
Long live the Once and Future King!

The Knights drank deeply from their cups and left with purpose.

Battle 1
01.jpg

02.jpg

bor.jpg
Our Cavalry can capture several strategic points, leave all the brute force to me.

gar.jpg
I shall support you closely with my magic.

bor.jpg
Don't shy away from combat, your giants are formidable.

gar.jpg
Very well, Sir Bors.

03.jpg

bor.jpg
Sir Ragnar possess the Soul Mirror ability, we can't let him live for long. I shall take him on.

gar.jpg
I'll take on their eastern archer wings.

bor.jpg
Attack!

04.jpg

bor.jpg
Too late, Christian! My blade shall cleave you in half!

05.jpg

gar.jpg
Ragnar is down! Now I can unleash my magic! Meet thy maker!

06.jpg

bor.jpg
Say your prayers!

07.jpg

08.jpg

gar.jpg
I shall introduce you to hell on earth!

09.jpg

10.jpg

The First Christian army is defeated.

11.jpg

Battle 2
12.jpg

kay.jpg
Formidable. But they have no archers.

bed.jpg
Let's sweep them!

13.jpg

bed.jpg
You may want to avoid the shrine at the center. It prevents the use of magic.

kay.jpg
Do not worry. The Green Knight's magics will draw them to us.

gre.jpg
THE WEATHER IS UNFAVORABLE. YET I CAN CHANGE IT WHEN REQUIRED.

kay.jpg
Proceed.

The Green Knight's Shifting Pool brought forth several hapless infantry. And immediately, the Daylight spell was cast to remove the storm.

15.jpg

kay.jpg
Let loose, the Arrows of Decline!

16.jpg

gre.jpg
APPROACHING KNIGHTS. INTERCEPTING.

17.jpg

When the storm returns, the once mightly army of Christians were reduced to a few units of infantry.

18.jpg

The issue with archers is that in loose formation, they possess more or less equal speed with the light infantry. So theoretically, it's an impossible fight for the infantry. Only cavalry/giants can catch up to them.

19.jpg

The Second Christian Army is destroyed.

20.jpg

Battle 3

21.jpg

dag.jpg
Whoa, all Sangreal Knights.

ywa.jpg
We better have a plan than a straight on teleport attack.

luc.jpg
I recommend an ambush.

fio.jpg
Let us take shelters at the nearby forests, then rain death with our magic before moving in for the kill.

dag.jpg
Very well, I shall be the bait at the center!

22.jpg

Moving in the Sidhe infantry to ambush positions while cavalry caps the rest.

23.jpg

24.jpg

Once they're in range...

25.jpg

26.jpg

27.jpg

ywa.jpg
That's enough! Let's GO!

28.jpg

29.jpg

30.jpg

And so the threat of Christians ended. Meanwhile in the Bedegraine Forest.

31.jpg

mer.jpg
The threat of the Scourge remains, I must assist Arthur in finding a way to seal the Gates of Underworld!

32.jpg

33.jpg

mer.jpg
I am not just anyone. Nor is my King, Arthur.

34.jpg

mer.jpg
Let us go, then.

35.jpg

mer.jpg
More delays? Very well.

36.jpg

mer.jpg
Drat! Let's follow the shouting, perhaps he is there.

37.jpg

mer.jpg
What's going on here?

38.jpg

mer.jpg
Where are the children then?

39.jpg

mer.jpg
Tis not the druid's fault, these ignorant soldiers won't listen. Unfortunately, blood must be shed.

40.jpg

41.jpg

42.jpg

mer.jpg
Could it be?

43.jpg

44.jpg

mer.jpg
Such wondrous creature! As a follower of the Old Faith, I shall assist.

45.jpg

mer.jpg
Ancient Tree, do you know anything of the Philosopher's Stone?

46.jpg

mer.jpg
Very well, I bid you good day.

47.jpg

48.jpg

mer.jpg
It is a focal point of magic.

49.jpg

mer.jpg
I don't know.

50.jpg

mer.jpg
My King has ordered me to find it.

51.jpg

52.jpg

53.jpg

mer.jpg
And so, another battle awaits us.

Fucking shit. :x We're so close to the end, but the amount of filler battle is starting to eat into my patience.

Next update: 3 Battles to End the Scouge!

Rightful/Christian must be very tough.

00.jpg

01.jpg

king.jpg
So if we defeat all three guardians then we can finally seal the gates of Samhain?

mer.jpg
Yes, Arthur.

king.jpg
Very well. Let us be rid of this Scourge once and for all.

02.jpg

03.jpg

bor.jpg
They stood on open ground. Let's not waste time. Giants will dominate in the open fields.

04.jpg

05.jpg

The only known-counter to Giants is concentrated ranged attacks. Or some magical attacks. These guys don't have anything like that.

06.jpg

07.jpg

08.jpg

Second Guardian
09.jpg

This is going to be a very painful battle.

10.jpg

Luckily the VP distribution is pretty equal. Except that the starting terrain for us is a bunch of marshes.

11.jpg

We move to the nearest patch of forest before starting the exchange of fire.

12.jpg

The enemy starts pummeling us with attack spells. We could not do much but suck it up.

13.jpg

14.jpg

Right. Their Seelie Warriors start to advance under the cover of their archers.

15.jpg

Time to employ a little creative Shifting Pool.

16.jpg

17.jpg

18.jpg

I just sent those warriors far away from the front line. Pretty convenient. Now we can focus on killing those archers.

By the time the Warriors returned, they got nothing backing them up.
19.jpg

Casualty is horrid, but it's the last time we're using this army.
20.jpg

Guardian no.3
21.jpg

Fuck it. Let's not even be subtle anymore. Balin's group is disgustingly powerful and the testament to why Champions are the best heroes ever.

22.jpg

Get in close. Cleave cleave cleave. Anything else is gravy. However, there's a little surprise from the high elite archers.

23.jpg

Fuckers teleported and resumed shooting a few times. I couldn't chase them down with infantry. Good thing I had Sidhe Roads. Another compelling reason why Old Faith is imbalanced.

24.jpg

I reconfirmed it during level up. Rank 10 Unseelie / Seelie Archers get built-in Sidhe Roads. 10 min cooldown, but who cares? You basically get two free attack opportunities while your enemy close in. TWICE.
25.jpg

Now with the three guardians down, the Scourge can be eradicated permanently.

26.jpg

Max out magic resistance and send the Champion lead unit with maxed cleave to overcome Ghost Life Drain healing factor. I've done this with Balin solo before.

27.jpg

When the death fog clears, that means no more ghosts. Yay.

28.jpg

29.jpg

Herp derp. With the threat of the Scourge and Christians over, the only thing that's left is the annihilation of the Seelie in Bedegraine Forest.

As I wait for my thin-crust ordered pizzas to arrive in 40 minutes. I shall prepare the final screenshots of the closing chapter of King Arthur: Return of the Old Faith.

Also: Not getting Lionheart. I couldn't enjoy the demo. The voice-over quality declined and the objective based gameplay made me feel like I was playing Warcraft for some reason.

I. Hold the beaches.
II. Take out these guards.
III. Free Prisoners.

Nope. No. No. No.

Crush every single Seelie forces in the Bedegraine Forest and victory is ours!

The Seelie Court.
14.jpg

We beat the Smiling Prince in a riddle game before, this time we will destroy him utterly.

15.jpg

Poor choice of start location. We'll just get there and blow him away with Sir Balin's might.

16.jpg

Time to eat a sword, Seelie Scum.

17.jpg

Kicked him to the curb. How anti-climactic.

king.jpg
So that's it? It's over?

kay.jpg
Sir Balin has succeeded, milord. The Unseelie have sent their envoy to bless you with their powers and invite you to their court to seal the alliance.

mer.jpg
And with it..the wisdom of Holy Grail's whereabouts.

king.jpg
I...I thank you all, my Knights!

kay.jpg
Allow me the honor to escort you personally to their court.

bed.jpg
The revival of the Old Faith throughout Britannia is nothing short of a miracle. It's been an honor to serve you, my lord!

mer.jpg
It's been thirty years since you drew the sword, Arthur...heh. Savor it.

kay.jpg
Shall we, my king?

king.jpg
Yes, brother. Let us go.

Paradox Interactive Announces King Arthur II
When the Greatest Tale of Chivalry Ends, the Nightmare Begins

NEW YORK, January 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Paradox Interactive and Neocore Games today announced that development for King Arthur II is underway. Critically praised by reviewers and gamers alike, King Arthur was received as one of the biggest surprises to emerge on the gaming scene in 2009. The Fantasy/Role-playing RTS returns in a sequel set to push the boundaries of the genre even further.

King Arthur II will feature a new and dark fantasy setting. No longer a valiant ruler, King Arthur is now the Maimed King trying to mend a land almost beyond repair in a stunning new plot. More heroic, large scale battles with bigger armies are at reach to defeat more powerful foes. Intense boss fights never seen before promise to pit hero’s forces against unique and terrifying enemies. A new wide range of camera control options, revised animations and an extensive tutorial will provide for the ultimate gaming experience.

"We are excited to begin King Arthur II with the Paradox publishing team," said Zoltán Pozsonyi, Producer of King Arthur II for Neocore. "We have every intention of testing the limits in the sequel. With an extraordinary new plot and insane new battles, our community’s expectations will be blown away."

"We couldn’t be more thrilled to add King Arthur II to our lineup of exceptional upcoming titles. From the early development that has taken place, we know this newest title will more than live up to its predecessor," said Fredrik Wester, CEO of Paradox Interactive.

The new expansions out as well, but sounds like you've broken the system so even the new units/missions/heros may be no match for Sir Balin.

Rightful/Christian must be very tough.

Actually, no. All it takes with Rightful/Christian is to load up your heroes with magic denial spells like Bonds of Magic and Burning Magic to prevent enemies from dropping lightnings on your arse, and then rolling over everything with sangreal knights.

Also, I didn't remove the Druids expansion from inventory yesterday and I think it's rather 'ehhh'. I don't like the 'sandbox' campaign structure. The story-driven formula of the OC was more interesting.

I took a warm up round with Very Hard and decided I rather play it at 'hard'. Facing Sir Balin with maxed cleave and dragon breath is a nightmare I would not like to repeat with an army barely 4 seasons old.

Fucker is broken no matter how you look at it. Insta gibs from 500 metre, cleaves 5 at melee. Fuck you Balin. Fuck youuuuu~~~ :x

Good LP bro, and thank you for introducing me to this game

This is $5 on gamersgate at the moment (and the saxons for $2.50 more) to celebrate the release of the druids expansion.

Looks like they haven't sorted out the dlc yet though.

Wondering to get it or not

I do not recommend the DLC at all. There's not much value to be had. The original package is a steal at $5, though.

Nothing of interest comes from playing through the Saxons Campaign to be honest.

EDIT: Saxons do contain small minor improvements over the base gameplay with new units and diplomacy system, but the whole sandbox system felt very shallow and hopefully is a stepping stone to better sequel in the process.

I foresee Druids to be more of the same.

I also will be taking a leave of absence for a family gathering the next 2 weeks. So no Christian LP till then!

Gonna eat me some Pigs for Chinese New Year.
